    I am glad you told people to pace themselves with learning this, it take a lot of practice that is for sure.

      Yeah I have a very deep growl naturally, but it's a completely different story doing it like Tim Foust the way he transitions into it. It's basically another one of Tim's normal registers lol.

    I just hit a sustained F1 growl as a 14yo girl... I never knew I was using this technique but my friends are always shocked on how I can hit such low notes LOL. I've been doing this for fun since I was maybe 9 ish but I never knew about the term "growling" since recently! In just a couple of weeks, (from being able to only growl Bb1,) I went from that to being able to growl F1, which is not a MASSIVE difference, but I'm happy since I've barely practiced :D

    Do you have any other tips? I’ve got the right technique and the right sound, I just can’t hold it for very long without keeping a consistent note.

    This is probably the best explanation of a growl, there are very few that can really pull it off, probably because it does take so long to really see results. So many people think "wow this person was just born with the most amazing voice ever". I'm not saying they're always wrong, but they also don't understand how much raw vocal development they got from just singing "a lot" in the words of Geoff Castellucci. When he said that it really dawned on me, the best singers are also typically the ones that sing the most... Of course there will be singers that take the cake, but I don't know any that didn't also put a lot of effort in. The best example is Jonny Craig, people think he's just the most natural born singer, but he knows a lot more than you would think. He has had issues with drugs in the past that I think also helps people believe "wow he just sounded like that the first time he sung at 7 years old, and look how nuts he goes after drinking he couldn't have any work ethic.". No, it took him years according to his interview with Chris Liepe. I hate to be that guy, but Jonny Craig as good as he is still has some pretty off performances on TH-cam, to be fair it is on a full tour so not easy to perform in that situation with that kind of grit. Pavarotti i.e. just cancels the show if he doesn't like it, apparently Aretha Franklin also wouldn't play somewhere if it was too low humidity. That's where you gain even more respect for vocalists like Freddie Mercury that would truly play under any conditions.

    I’ve been growling for nearly 10 years at this point, and I still can barely hold it longer than maybe 6 or 7 seconds. It doesn’t make sense to me how to hold it longer with how much air I let out as I do it

    Man, could you talk some more about pitch stabilization of the growl? I understand where are the low frequencies in my throat, but not how to go up and down with the notes. Without this I can't make it sound musical 😐

    2:40 is that an app if not do you know one on play store I could use to boost the low end for growl

    • @TheBassFreak
      @TheBassFreak  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No, I'm sorry that I didn't mention it in the video! It's Ableton, a recording sodtware for computers :)
      If you wan't to do the same with a phone, just use software like Garageband, or something similar. Just add the eq after recording!

    Train to gain natural equalizarion

    • @TheBassFreak
      @TheBassFreak  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Welp that's kind of difficult as equalization is manipulating (boosting/cutting out) certain frequencies. Your mouth and chest have a certain resonant frequency - one that is most likely way too high and will not aide in making a full bass growl sound. You can of course better your growl technique and limit higher frequencies as much as possible, but without proper equalization and effects, the sound will always be subpar. Listen to some Homefree live performances where Tim Foust's microphone is not properly equalized.. It does not sound nearly as good as when it has proper EQ. Thank you for your comment!
