One of those bands was that if you didnt know someone who didnt already know of them you would have never heard of em on the media. had to be alive and in the car listening to the radio or at the music store browsing when they launched
"The Retirement Plan" brought me here. So crazy I've never heard this song. This genre is right up my alley. Now to see if he has more stone cold grooves.
I DJ at hockey games sometimes & played this song at my Junior B's hockey camp this past weekend... because it's our responsibility to introduce classic hits to future generations.
When I think of great Canadian musicians Sam is right at the top. Sam Robert's music is a uniting force much like the songs I listened to growing up in the 60's. There's so much hate and anger in the world today, it's easy to become indifferent, Sam has enough guts to write about stuff that matters and leaves a lasting positive message.
I know I say this with bias - being a Canadian citizen who listens to radio which mandates a certain amount of Canadian musicians' airtime - but seriously, I thought this was a classic rock tune. Well, it should be considered as one (imo)! Also, I see here that it hasn't yet passed a million views. Well, it should!!
Part of it sounding like classic rock may come from the guitar opening being very similar to The Who - The Seeker It throws me a little every time the rest of the band join in on this track when it comes on
+Thomas magnum the 14 upvotes only for your comment should tell you.... it deserves 100000 upvotes by the way. The world has gone to shit and it's filled with stupid people
I'm from b.c. and figured out today that all my favorite singers and bands came from quebec.I can start with mashmakhan, sass Jordan, april wine ,the box,sam roberts, gino vanelli, arcade fire and the list goes on.a big shout out to quebec rock.
My dad used to hang out with Gino Vanelli and Aldo Nova in Verdun Montreal. I kinda wish I still lived there but all my friends are here in Alberta but I really hate it here.
2024 and this song is still as relevant as the day it was written. Still grooving to great Canadian tunes like this. They never get old. 🇨🇦✌🏼🇨🇦✌🏼🎶🇨🇦✌🏼🇨🇦✌🏼😁
I remember around '06-'07, I was going through random music links on Wikipedia, and somehow I stumbled upon Sam Roberts. I looked him up and enjoyed what I heard. He's not very well known in the states, and mine borders Canada.
I saw this awesome band with my daughter on July 1, Cloverdale, BC, three years ago and I'm playing their music almost everyday. Nobody has the change ups like this band does. anyone with a bit of music in their bones will thrive on this Canadian, one-of-a-kind, music.Hail to the Sam Roberts band
Lori Caviglia They were in Kelowna this past February and I missed it! I'm so mad at myself for missing a once in a lifetime opportunity to see my favorite Canadian Band! I really do hope they come back to BC soon!
If u ever have a chance to see Sam Roberts live, don't pass it up. Band never takes a night off. Two of their shows are among my top 5 ever live concert experiences.
seen him 2 times at rock the shores in Victoria here, the second time he played he brought his 80 year old grandma out and said it was his first concert of his shed been to sooo cool. great sound great person it seems
Me and my step brother stood with a small handful of others watching this in Fibbers in York, UK in 2004. We were blown away and couldn’t understand why there was hardly anyone there. Will always remember that gig. I fell in love with that album. Chris Helme from the seahorses supported them.
Was feeling this way today … an ever present feeling actually for far too long … where have all the good people gone? So I googled this question and landed here. I just don’t understand most people I come across anymore. I think access to social media and a bigger audience of “friends” has made people forget that really, in the end, we live day to day amongst a very close group of people in this world, and what we do and say and how we live either builds or tears away at these very important relationships.
lol I love that they purposely made the video retro and cheesy, because it's fun, and i also love the part where the stage tech runs and picks the microphone stand up!
The days of signing a band or artist for their artistic integrity is long gone, and almost everyone you see getting 200 million views for some video or song is because it was destined that way, and nobody gets to that point without directly knowing someone in the upper echelon of the music industry, whether it's a family member or a close personal friend, this is the way it works now.. cont..
I just caught a clip of Sam live at Glen Gould studio in Toronto(2011) . Sam was playing his new album and there was one paticular song that woke me right up. I can't wait to here the new album and find that song( and its name). I hope its as good as he played it live that night.
This song captivates how I feel today. Calgary has had barely any sun the last 5 weeks (+ a snow storm) & it's driving everyone to insanity. Yeah, I'm staying home this Thanksgiving Weekend. This song makes me feel better when I try to- no, HAVE to avoid all human contact. :-)
my guy lives in canada he sent me a link for this (and many other songs by other canadian artists) we have a small fllowing here in england now hopefully it will grow and canadian stars will ge or start gettingt the recognition they deserve :) keep em coming canada :)
❤ I was thinking about buying my 1st home on the Canadian 🇨🇦 side of the River where I live since the terrorists shot up my Dad's military base in Texas U.S.A. Eh?
Sam, i really love your style , energy , original vibes in your music. No matter what people say....i am a fan and keep up your storytelling in song. Peace Brother this Brother is Up. not Down.
Wow so many great songs I have been a fan for a long time Looking so forward to seeing you play Festival of Friends in Hamilton, Ontario tonight. Thanks so much for giving me and your other fans the chance Sam Roberts Band !!!
Here's the story. Ex-stoner who caught brother down on some video channel back in may 2002 or 2003 and immediately sourced the cd. Road tripped it to San Diego in my 540i BMW blasting this shit almost sure that no one I past down the 15 from Vegas was playing these guys. Suffice it to say I fell in love. Heard everything except for brother down for the first time. Does my heart good to know that cool is still rare with only 182k plays.

Miss this Canadian rock era.
A great Montreal Boy!!! Pointe-Claire
Cripplingly underrated artist.
One of the most under-rated artists ever.

A.k.a. The Sam Roberts Band. So many great tunes. Entire albums are bangers.

(US) American here: Canada has ALWAYS cranked some of Rock's "bangers"! too many to list! 👍😊👍
I got to admit he is absolutely my favorite musician in Canada his lyrics are so good
If you attend an outdoor venue and can see the breath of the performers,
You know you're in Canada ❤
Or you just know the outside ambient temperature is lower than that of human breath ..
Such a banger....

I heard this shit on Q107
@@TehFrenchy29 shit, I don't think I've ever heard that song! Thanks. I guess everything really is a remix.
A lot of people who are blind just do not understand Sam's message!
Damn. Those lyrics sure ring true these days.
Brilliant track.
" I haven't made a friend in a long, long while/ they don't check my head, they check my style"
So true Sam, so true !
I always thought it was "They don't shake my hand but they chafe my style'
+Jordan Flintoft that works too!
Hmmm, I always thought it was "They don't CHANGE my head, but they CHANGE my style". lol, think I have to go look it up now. : )
Lol so true 👍
Hahaha I just wrote something to the same effect in the feed ... good lyrics
I'm always surprised Sam Roberts;s videos don't get more views. He's awesome.
He was born in the wrong era. Rock is dead!
This is actually legendary, such a talented musician
🤘
Where has all the good music gone?
