Huge pet peeve...(stereo hack installs) just finished restoring one of the worst hack jobs on my buddys sn95. Fixing his Mach 460 stock system with a new nice head unit. Perfect rant Chris lol. Appreciate you man. Keep up with great content and hard work.
That’s the way I always done that for years until I upgraded to the double din stereo… that’s when mine got drilled… let’s face it… you put anything in that fake cubby hole… it flies out as soon as you turn the corner!!! That hole was originally designed for the ford equalizer that was an option… if you didn’t have that… you got the fake cubby hole… a new double din radio fits the hole perfectly!!!! Looks like it was made for it!!!!!!!
that is beautiful! My dad hacked up the whole dash of my 89 GT vert when he had it. Monster tach holes, cell phone holder holes, crappy head unit plate holes, cut speaker wiring, and cut stereo wiring. I used plastic weld and patience to repair the holes in the dash & console, but I have yet to fix the head unit wiring that was cut up.
Very informative! I'm dealing with this exact situation and it's frustrating, brand new interior and that "wallet holder" flying out everytime I'd touch the gas a little, lol
Man Chris this is what I’ve been doing for years on all the foxs I’ve had👍🏻👍🏻 this is what happens when you have OCD! I remember getting the install kits and I’m like “I’m not screwing in to my dash like that”
Looking good! Looks like things are nice and busy. I ;m in MD. Ai'm about to look at an 86 SVO. I used to own one back in 2004. It actually looks really nice...
When I have anything to my car I always took the angle of "what if I want to undo this" Yeah it may take a few extra minutes or parts but if you ever want to undo it, it can be undone easily. Thanks for the good video.
I know this video is older, but I'm hoping notifications will bring you back here. I'm working on bringing my Grandpa's 89 GT vert back to life. He didn't take the best care of the interior and the entire stereo is without paint or real function. I want to replace it with something modern, without doing irreparable damage. What size stereos can fit when you do the install as shown in the video? Might be a dumb question but I've been searching high and low and I'm no closer than I was.
Where can I find those connectors for the dash speakers? Very cool install. My car still has all original and I’ve been beating myself up about whether or not to change it. This way I can always go back original. Thanks man.
I wish someone good with audio would show how to properly bypass the factory amp or tap into it. Been wanting to change the head unit in my 93, but I don’t want to loose any of the speakers by doing so.
@@TheInfamousProject heard you mention that in the video, I guess I’m just having a hard time understanding how the two connectors tie into the one that plugs into the radio. Wiring isn’t my strong area either, I can hook up some speaker adapters and plug them in, but I’m more of a nuts and bolts kind of guy.
Did this years ago with mine. However, with hard launches on ET Streets the head unit came flying out because the pocket was just sitting there. I glued the pocket in place and haven’t had an issue since. Sure, it forever limits me to single DIN head units, but I don’t really care.
This and stop putting the aftermarket tach drilled into the nice pretty clean dash pad. 99% of you aren't driving a racecar so you don't need it anyway
I never hacked my GT's radio setup. In my younger days I just had an amp with a Kicker SS10 in the hatch with all the other stock components. It was just as good as anything else soundwise for what I wanted. Nowadays adding a high-end stereo to these cars is pointless. I'm sure all the squeaks, rattles and exhaust noise is trashing any fidelity you may have gained anyway.
Let's be fair.... I love foxbodys and have owned something like 7 of them... But Ford was the first one to destroy the interior... When they designed it ;)

Love this video Chris. These are the little nuggets of information that help keep clean cars from being butchered!

Very nice information Chris, yes please use the connectors for the speaks, it makes life easier.

I've been doing the same on all my foxes for years! Thank you for informing more people to hopefully save some more center consoles.
“We’re just not being hacks.” LOL Great, informative video for new Fox owners.
Good idea. I rock stock stereos but nice to know about the wiring too
Love the video! Great tip for keeping the interior minty!
How about a double Din install?

Always love to see 👀 new things to do for our foxes
Best explained on TH-cam. I will do exactly like this. Thanks!
I saw you didn't waste any time! Lol

Great information!!! It would be nice if there was more information on the earlier foxes 🦊. Mine’s a 85
Nice clean install!! There's nothing worse than hacked up wiring... I just went through some of this a week ago! Awesome video!
Great video! Just replaced my factory radio and no holes 🙏

You can modify a 1993 Cobra R radio delete plate also.
im right there with you. i cant stand to work on a car thats had the radio installed half-assed!

Just added to the description!
I didn’t know it was another plug in there. Mine didn’t have one. I don’t think mine has one it’s a 91 but my amplifier is underneath the radio.
Mine had screws when I got it. Any tips on filling them and making it look right?
You'd have to plastic weld, fill, sand, paint

Pretty easy to do as explained just get the black connector from the back and bypass the amplifier

Where is the link to adapters?
Sorry about that! www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07ZQHJLMS/
Wow nice video bro
Is this in Texas or back home?
Texas
Love the Crystal Blue! =)
What size speakers fit in the dash?

Great info and video! It will definitely never be hoes in my Console! Not cool to hack Foxes ! 👊😎✌️
Two things I absolutely hate doing to ANY car,
1) drilling holes
2) hacking up the factory wiring.
This and stop putting the aftermarket tach drilled into the nice pretty clean dash pad. 99% of you aren't driving a racecar so you don't need it anyway

I put my equalizer in that empty counsel under radio
I bet you feel like I do everytime you see one of those flipped ac control kits.
I got stock stereo need some tapes lol 1989
hit the antique shops.
Or need that Bluetooth hook up
claim that radio, put it with my cobra 😈
HVAC double-DIN swap 4 life. The factory radios in these and even later models were terrible.
i liked that video ...what you talk'n about fool ? famous words of MR. T
