- Why the pro's boots are different from the football boots we can buy - in today's episode 64 of the Boot Nerds Podcast, Josh from SR4U and JayMike from Unisport take a look at some of the craziest modifications we've seen on pro player football boots all the way from Lionel Messi and his custom adidas Nemeziz football boots, to CR7s Superfly 4 with a shorter tongue over Neymar Jr and his insane Vapor 10 that was disguised as a Hypervenom 2 and of course Robin van Persie's super crazy custom adidas F50 adizero with an adiPOWER Predator outsole on - and that's just to name a few as JayMike and Josh look into the craziest custom football boot modifications we've seen on pro player football boots.

Aguero, another player with a boot totally custom to him, hardly like the retail version at all.
Half the big name adi and puma players have boots that are all very different I presume. adidas in the years just after they dropped the 4 silos was the worst culprit.

And I'm agree with Jay, Totti didn't have the recognition that he deserved, I think if he'd accepted real madrid in the early '00 he'd be recognized as one of the best in the world.

During the 90`s in SerieA there were sooo many players with ASICS and that Shoe was so good looking! I forced my cousin that played SerieB to buy me the blue ASICS tigreor. Since it wasn't available in Switzerland. A masterpiece!
Didier Drogba also had a custom soleplate on all his vapors (I think leading up until vapor 10 maybe 11 too) in which he used the og vapor 1 stud pattern. I also remember seeing a picture of a Brazilian pro wearing a pair of vapor 13 new lights with a custom vapor 11 soleplate, but I can’t seem to find it on Instagram.

The Diadora Maximus was an awesome series of boots.

Can you guys define what you mean when you say something is "responsive," please? I play in Predator Manias, Accelerators, Vapors, 11pro SLs (a super underrated boot, one of the greatest of all time), Mundial (turf and Copa), Mizuno Morelia Neo (I and II)--and only in my (overstretched) Copas do I feel a bit of "slowness" (more like a sloppy feeling)--I just really wish you guys would explain what you mean, as it seems (and correct me if I'm wrong) that responsiveness is simply tied to "lock-down"; meaning that as long as a boot has lock-down, it will be responsive, but you seem to bifurcate between the two terms. I'm genuinely curious and thank you for all of your work guys.
I think there are a couple of factors:
-Lock down: if your booths are loose they will feel sloppy
-The softness of the material of the boots : if the material is thin and not too soft, when the boot gets in contact with the ball your feel will instantaneously feel the ball , creating a responsive sensation
- Sole plate for obvious reasons
-how tigh they hold your foot (upper and tongue area)
And so on...
Landon Donovan used the older mercurial stud pattern from vapor IV & V on his CTR 360s.

I’m stuck right now and need nerd opinion: do I splurge on a pair of MIJ Mizuno’s (Rebula or classic Morelia) OR do I go throwback and get a pair of AdiPowers / AdiPures ... keep in mind both are about same market price right now and I’ve worn Rebula’s before as well as Adipure and Preds in the past !
I'm British, but played a pick up game in St Augustine Fl one year, and a chap playing for the other side was a former pro that played for several La Liga clubs in Spain but was originally from Argentina. I played a pretty high standard over here, and when we were chatting afterwards he was full of praise for me, but he was on a whole different level, just looked like he had as much time on the ball as he wanted and just oozed class. Wearing some smoking Morelia 2s also. Played against a few top players in the youth leagues where I grew up, and they were the same - utterly brilliant, but often the best ones didn't get picked up for various reasons, still an overt focus in the UK on power and physical size. We had a player on our side who never got taller than 5'5", but he was comfortably the best player I've seen in person.
I’d like to hear your opinion on the Adidas Copa Kapitan. It seems like it’s adidas response to the Nike Premier but in a much cheaper produced form. Only K-Leather in the toebox, cheap synthetic tongue, and a sole plate that is much worse than the Premier’s. Plus those god awful ugly stripes on the boot 🤢

I think messi isnt very outspoken about his boots he just gets them then complain or even tries to make them to his spec.....but he probs also doesnt think he can make them change there production line but I think he can since he has the popularity AND FAME
Current Nike Mercurial SG plate that all the pros wear is different and has no anti-clog tech to make it lighter and thinner if you guys didn’t already know 👍

Ag sole plates are so comfortable I can see why Ney uses them on his vapors. Could be for injury too but they’re comfortable nonetheless

Chris Holden I’ve wore a lot over the years and I’ve always gone back to my first recent pairs when I started playing again. Puma 18.1 One, they absolutely fit awesome, especially the outer and medial side. It wraps your foot so nice. Major downside, for me, horrible lockdown.
adidas should make better shoes for Messi like Nike did for cr7.
Can't believe you didn't mention the balotelli Italian flag Puma evopower MB45 tricks. Those were the exact specs of balotelli's boot.

We have a pair of Gareth Bale’s custom X16.1 boots, they’re incredible. The only thing that makes them similar to the retail version is the paint job and soleplate... you could’ve asked to use our pics of the Sterling PhantomVNM’s we have though guys 😂
Dani Alves' nitrocharges were basically a nitrocharge/F50 hybrid. I always thought that they would have been cool to play in.

Btw totti is playing in the Serie A 8-a-side League in Rome, (Alberto Aquilani Also plays in his team) I know because I am from Rome and I have friend that played against his team
Also totti has scored 250 goals for Roma, making him the 2nd all time top scorer in serie A. For example the premier leage top scorer of all time is Shearer with 260 goal , second is Rooney with only 208... So we can say that Totti Also scored a fair amount of goals...

Leroy Sane wore a Superfly 5 with a lower collar. It wasn't as low as ronaldo, but still. Landon Donovan once wore a Maestri 1 with a Superfly 1 soleplate, that one was super rad

I think a lot of people would actually consider buying them over other boots just to get the real Messi boot experience. Heck they could make the + version the real messi one and keep the .1 the same as it is now

Why are some mizuno boots called "MD" and what does it mean? Are they not made in Japan and but made in Indonesia instead? They are much cheaper than other ones but they don't appear to be takedown models because they aren't named "elite".
MD on a mizuno boot is just a reference to the plates, it's MD for moulded.

Y’all forgot to mention how Messi used to have his front and rear studs ground down and into a conical shape in the older sprintframe soleplates. Always found that interesting.
RVP also had a mixed predator at one point if I remember correctly. It had the upper from one predator and the soleplate from another, I think it was adipower upper with pred x soleplate but I'm not certain.

Have you thought of setting up a patreon and taking questions from there?
