Every Paradox game does it. It's only a problem in the early game when they're just vastly stronger. Then when you've got going a bit, you can easily beat or cheese them. Difficulty is meaningless if it just makes the AI cheat. Boring.
@@snowinowen4 Crusader Kings literally doesn't have difficulty and is almost perfectly symmetrical (players are more likely to get certain events I think), which is a bit part of why it's my favourite of their series

I mostly just play with mods anyways so it never really bothered me, especially since most of the mods were total overhauls or really dumb like the Eggman Empire.

Back in the day; there was a mod that increased the boost part ideology insanely fast. Like a month and the target country was flipped completely. It was so fun hitting the US/USSR/EUed Germany with a Civil War.
Don't have DLCs, I pretty much just play mods. Issue is, almost all mods have functions from the DLCs, so yeah. Seems like most people treat the game as if the DLCs are required content.

Also, Manage Subjects becomes available with any DLC that creates a unique puppet type. Together for Victory or Waking the Tiger both give you the ability to annex puppets.
Before I bought la resistance during the winter sale, I had basically all the other dlcs (except no step back, too expensive for now). I had been very confused why you haven't used the boost party popularity thing before. But, now it all makes sense. I play mainly Austro-Hungary, and it is the only way to get the Czechs to fully annex without fail.
The manage subject is added with the "Death or Dishonor" DLC, you know the one that permits you to desintegrate Yugoslavia into thousands of puppet states so the balcans are more chaotic

When I first bought the game and didn't have the DLCS, me and my friend kept doing this in a multiplayer game. Our faction was fascist so we kept doing coups, but every uprising just joined axis, who we were at war with, so we had to squash our own revolutions. The greatest threat to the BALS alliance as it seemed, was ourselves.

DLCs are too expensive for me, so I have been playing Vanilla since I bought the game. It makes me feel great how people who play HOI4 with DLCs go crazy when they try Vanilla. :)

I was a cursed Hoi 4 player for a while. I even liked trying to play Greece with a default focus tree (why did I do that to myself). A few weeks ago, I bought La Resistance, Battle for the Bosphorus, and Death or Dishonor. While I hate paradox has so many features locked behind a paywall, dlc definitely makes the game better.
As someone who owns base HOI4 with only no DLC I only have it to download Workshop mods. I play the game pirated with all DLCs and it works having mods from workshop on pirated versions if you also have the game on Steam no DLC required.
After I saw some of your and Taureor's videos, I got HoI4 and played for a week without DLC. I liked the game, so I bought every DLC (excluding No Step Back cuz it's too expensive). It's truly a VERY different experience
Also, I bought TfV before teh DLC that changes the British focus tree, so I had the focus trees for the colonies of Britain before the one of... Britain
welp i dont have any dlcs for hoi 4 and its honestly pure hell cuz almost none of the nations have a focus tree so u end up wishing u were dead and since idt there are any formable nations in it that i have seen so far its impossible to actually hold land

I see HOI 4 uses the Civilization formula for difficulty, "nah, let's not make the AI smarter, just give them a fuckton of buffs, that'll do it".

Then I realized my life was sadness and I started slowly buying the rest.
