- In this video I sandblast a 60ft narrow boat explaining mill scale and why it made this filler and paint fail.
If you find my accent too strong please use CC subtitles I’ve put a lot of effort into them they take me longer to add than editing the video so please feel free to use them they are free… just like the thumbs up button 😏
As always thanks for watching much appreciated!
Hard doing for easy viewing :)
If you are a blaster and require help please drop me a message on here. PLEASE don't email or call asking advice on how to setup or operate your Rig. I need to prioritise my free time doing work calls, emails and quote enquiries. I will always try to respond to comments on my videos :)
kind Regards

😊👌👍 merry Christmas buddy and happy new year to you and your family
Love the CAT seat cover and 👌🤙👍
😉 a decent bloke from the other side of the world sent it me 🤣👌👍 thanks mate it’s a proper asset to van 😁👌
Great video mate i used to work as a shot Blaster doing yellow goods and loved the job .
@@leestraughan1979 😊👌👍
Awesome video thanks Mick very much appreciated have a great Christmas and New year bud 🚛🚛🚛🚛🛠️🔧👍🤠. I'm still on RR lol 😆
@@philglover2973 thanks mate we will. Wishing you and your family a merry Christmas and happy new year 🥳 you will be back to normal in no time 💪
awesome, you know how much I love the NB vids. The biggest controversy on that boat is the fact it was made with lots of small pieces on the roof and also differing sources of steel. Rename the boat to Frankenstein's Monster boat
😂 I’m not sure because I’m not a boat builder but the roof could need to be small sections for it to be bent into a slight curve maybe something to do with that 💁
@@Mobileblaster It could be a factor but boat builders generally get great bigger curves at the front and back and on the swim also. The welding looked sub standard and having filler on a new boat isnt a good sign either
Great work again ❤
@@CharlesStevenage thanks mate appreciate it 😊👌👍
Crickey ☺️ now that is cold 🥶. I don't know how you do it 😂
We aren’t blessed with temps like you haha coldest you get is reaching for a beer in fridge 😂👌👍
@Mobileblaster 😅🤣bloody oath mate 😆🍻cheers legend.
Mill scale is scale. At the end of the day your job is to make a nice clean surface (prep) so the painters have something to work with 👌👍
Yeah a keyed surface is all that’s required ☺️👌👍
@@MobileblasterYour so wrong, mill scale has to be removed to get anything to stick properly, all the top shipbuilders shot blast the shit off!!!
@@neilwharton720 did you watch the video🙈
@ yes but you still say the mill scale doesn’t need to come off, not true.🙈🙈🙈🙈
And I explain why in my opinion obviously google is full of people that knows better well reading from a sheet… but in reality I’m explaining why mill scale gets the bad name I’m simply saying if it was keyed up properly in the 1st place the scale wouldn’t have been an issue. So if it’s not an issue then it don’t need removing
That's too cold 🥶 mate. I'd rather be snuggled under the blankets 😂. Much warmer. I don't know how you do it 🤔😗. I like the heat 😓any day
😂👌👍
Can’t beat the old iveco 🙈
@@ianmcleod4 😂 I’ve got a battery drain I believe it’s the alternator although it’s just had a brand new 1 fitted and a brand new battery. The problem could be that the old alternator was the wrong 1 for the van the is a choice of 4 for this chassis number and I don’t know the 1 I should have so I have 2 that’s the same and both the new and old work as in charge the battery but discharge over about 5 or 6 days or 2 days in the cold
GoPro cameras: 😀
GoPro batteries: 🤬
Just the same, happy holidays Mick; I hope you have some time off with the important people in your life.
They advertise that the white batteries solve a problem that shouldn’t really be a problem to start with and they don’t even work haha. Thanks mate merry Christmas and happy new year to you and your family 😊👌👍
👍🌟👍
☺️👌👍
Great update Mick. Interesting how you solve winter issues mate. Best wishes for 2025
As for the scale question, look at basically any paint and the instructions will say "lightly sand before use" or something to that effect.
Yeah mostly free from contamination and a keyed surface and then the data sheet will go into depth on how clean and mesh grades👍
Hi Mick.
I wathing you some times . You make good job.
I have a small question if it's not a some secret.
How much you charge for sandblasting?? Per square metre?? Hourly rate?? And how much you take for blasting narrow boat isch full or half.
I wonder how to compare to Poland.
Thanks
It’s easy to work a price out you need to know how much your rig costs you per job don’t forget about everything else like service cost on forklifts etc etc rent on the unit etc everything that costs you money to make money even down to phone bill than you have your base line costs then add your labour that’s your price 👍
How far away was the welder when he chucked that bucket of weld on?
😂🙈
To cold +misture for painting any thing on this boat.paint need some heat to work proper.
They misted a primer coat to save flash rusting and painted it a few days later when the temps came back up to normal 👍
Nah just needs to be keyed paint a bit glass and you will see paint just scrapes off rough up glass surface and you will how hard it is to remove paint then
Yeah exactly the same process 👌👍
There are certainly many alloys of steel, and quality.
😊👌👍
Ofcourse the next paint job will fail because it's applied outside the temperature recommendation , near zero degrees is NEVER a good start, read the instructions as it's never a cheap process,
Apologies if I did not make this abundantly clear in the video. I do not engage in painting myself. However, I am aware that the shell is prepared by being skinned (to prevent flash rusting). I will refrain from disclosing the specific product I recommend, but it is a spray-on solution that can be applied to freshly blasted steel at any temperature. This allows the boat to be refloated. The repair work and finishing touches can be performed in a different building, which is conveniently located across the way. It is crucial to avoid painting the boat in near-zero temperatures. Therefore, it is unfair to label this boat builder or painter as incompetent. The boat will be completed to an exceptionally high standard with a warranty.
