Absolutely stunning. And so damn sexy. My first flight was on a 72 and it’s always been by far my favorite. This plane is immaculate. And the engineering is just as mind-blowing now as it was when it launched. I swear I’ve flown in every 72 that ever appeared in Eastern’s and National’s fleets. All those damn trips from LGA to see the grandparents in Daytona Beach. The sounds, the push from behind on takeoff, the fighter jet climb angle, the dive bomber approach and landing. It has a special place in my heart. Always will.

Man I love 727's, to see one so well taken care of is great. The 727-100 is the perfect size too, can land almost anywhere but its not tiny you can walk around in it and set it up like an apartment.

Interesting I come across this video. 727s were my baby. I grew up on them (PSAirlines...LAX/OAK in the early 70s), and lately I've been thinking that since they are rarely sighted now, they should be part of local airshows. I was thinking Riverside A/S, ever since I saw one parked early 2016 when I drove by one morning on my way to visit family. I made a point to make sure I drove back by on my way home, but she was gone already. Chino's airshow always sneaks upon me at the last minute.

You can find MD-88s, 90s for $2-3 million, probably less if you picked up an older model or one that was worked hard. Even Allegiant is dropping their MD-83s for A319-100s. You would end up with less width than a 27, but your maintainence costs as well as fuel burn and crew costs would be a lot less. I'm working with an aviation engineer and interior people to determine if it would be possible to buy the front end of a 747-400 and convert it into a living space. A dozen 727s have been turned into cool housing, wings and horizontal stabilizer removed. We will see a flood of 747s hit salvage in 2017-2018. I'm interested in the cockpit and the 75 or so feet of double decker portion and enough taper beyond it to match with the last 40-50 feet. My first idea was to take the double deck portion and that's it, it just doesn't work too well to to enclose it

+Bobby Paluga I've seen pictures and video of aircraft turned into houses and I think that's a pretty cool idea. Thanks for commenting.

So my question (to anyone who definitively knows the answer) is: This plane was built in 1966, it spent a good 18 years in commercial service before it became a research aircraft and then a private plane under a few hands before we see it today (I typed the tail number in google to get that information). I've learned that most pressurized type aircraft have expiration dates because the fuselage eventually becomes weak after so many rotations expanding and contracting. I've also learned that airframes go bad after long durations of continued flight. So, what makes a 727, with 48 years of history safe to fly and operate privately today when it would not be deemed safe for commercial use? I often have similar questions concerning the DC-10's, MD-11's and 727s I see still flying for FedEx and DHL. I have similar questions for developing countries using second/third hand US planes (old DC-9's and 707's). Thanks in advance!

ICSirvinite Considering you're the first person to respond to this in nearly 2 years to the point where I forgot I asked the question, I'd say I should probably go to a forum if I wanted to know the answer.

Evan J These old commercial planes get used for private and cargo etc and don't fly above 10,000ft as they can't pressurise.

I have been out of aviation for almost 20 years now, it appears to me the plane doesn't have a hush kit, and seems as though I read somewhere that pretty much no 27 could fly in the U.S. after 2015 even with kit installed. Didn't seem to have the boiler plate aging aircraft plates installed either. Those things would come out of that inspection and look like a boiler with all those plates and button head rivets that got installed to repair all those bad seams and corrosion.

@@EdWhisenantAviation The 727 has always been one of my favorite aircraft. This sort of looks a bit dated kinda late1980's design-wise... the Eagle bus version of a 727... versus a Prevost...The cockpit looks positively antique...
