    UPDATES: There is a notch in the bolt area on the flywheel that has to align with the single 'dot' on the crank. www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/MINI/25-TRANS-Clutch_Replacement/images_small/Pic69.JPG

    For DIY, maybe show install of entire title. Started with rear seal already in, should show people to remove and install. Just what some may ask.

    Dont use oil on the outside of the seal. Put grease on the inside of the seal. If u use oil they can come out. I usually clean them on the outside before installing them

    Do you have a part number for the rear main seal? I got one from Napa Auto parts, its to big. Got one from Autozone, same thing, its to big!

    Hmm since u know a lot about mini r53. While am on first gear (manual transmission) I hear like a tone coming from a gearbox or somewhere. Sounds like a remote control car 🙈 not much bad but I always wondering wat is all about 😅👍🏽 any idea bro? And ur vlog is awesome 👍🏽

    • @aDIYCarGuy
      @aDIYCarGuy  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      that is probably the supercharger if the sound changes, gets faster, with the rpms. thanks bro!

    • @OnlyDubai
      @OnlyDubai 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +a DIY Car Guy thanks for ur replies ) that sound comes only if the car is on the gear . It comes if I remove my foot from the acceleration paddle. While the car reducing the speed it self and the car on the gear . I got that tone . But if I did the same and I put the gear in neutral then while reducing the speed by it self ,There will be no sound. : ) something from gearbox or differential or excel. I should record it for u hhhhh . Hmm cuz sound of supercharger is a light sound from the hood area usually I hear it while speeding. Weeeeeew 😂

    • @aDIYCarGuy
      @aDIYCarGuy  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You're welcome, I understand, yes record it if you can and I will listen. I might know, but I might not haha, it could be inside the transmission.

    • @OnlyDubai
      @OnlyDubai 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +a DIY Car Guy yes I guess it's inside the transmission ) I uploaded a video, please have a look in ur free time . Enjoy hearing it 😅 ))

    Hello. Love ur videos. My transmission exploded on my 2003 mini cooper r50 (5 speed midlands). My mechanic has a 6 speed conversion kit for 2700$. Would u recomend it? My concern is 1- reliability down the road. 2- will the performance get better or worse? Thank u.

    • @aDIYCarGuy
      @aDIYCarGuy  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The 6 speed is better and is known as a durable transmission. From a financial standpoint, the transmission swap costs more than the car is worth and won't add much value, but it's still cheaper than buying another car. The performance will be slightly different, not really sure how much "better". So it's up to you based on your goals, wishes, and dreams lol.

      I’m currently doing the same conversion as I’ve gone through 2 midlands transmissions over 2 years so I’m putting in a 6 speed facelift from a 2005 mini for the shorter ratios

      @Mike-tr6bz 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello. My mechanic has converted my 2003 5 speed to a 6 speed in 2019. The problem with that co version is that he has also changed the flywheel which has made my car very laggy specially when I pit the car on the fist gear. The car is Not as nimble as before. But reliabilitywise the car drives and runs perfect.

  • @malp6280

    where did you get the torque specs from for the flywheel & clutch pressure plate??
    everyone/where I've found information from state flywheel 30NM + 90degrees, clutch plate 30 NM
    you've said 66FT/LB's for the flywheel & 17 FT/LB's for the clutch plate "well for a R55/56"

    • @aDIYCarGuy
      @aDIYCarGuy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      pelicanparts, northamericanmotoring forum, and reddit say 17 and 66.

    Why your new clutch doesn’t have springs in it if you have a single mass flywheel? Isn’t it supposed to have springs in it?

    • @aDIYCarGuy
      @aDIYCarGuy  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a dual mass flywheel

  • @Travelife2000

    can be possible to remove the gearbox using the jack stands? they are 38cm high

  • @williamnelson9336
    @williamnelson9336 ปีที่แล้ว

    So I am wondering why you didnt have the Flywheel turned or replaced when you did the clutch??? That clutch will not last long.

    • @aDIYCarGuy
      @aDIYCarGuy  ปีที่แล้ว

      Normally I do, must not have had time, the clutch will be fine

  • @ownedbymeeee
    @ownedbymeeee 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Im guessing this is a r53?
    Ich yes, do you know if a r56 cooper has a dual or singlemass flywheel?
    Thanks!

    • @malp6280
      @malp6280 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      R55-R56 & so-on use a dual mass flywheel, some versions you can convert them back to single mass flywheels.. however the benefits are limited at best.

    • @stockwelldesigns8308
      @stockwelldesigns8308 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      S uses dual mass, non s uses single mass (r56)

    My local MINI dealer is trying to get $1300 out of me to replace the rear main seal on my 2008 Clubman.

    • @aDIYCarGuy
      @aDIYCarGuy  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The parts are cheap but it's a loOot of work and liability. Possibly get a price from a foreign car or MINI specialist, might be cheaper.

    So how long did that seal last ?

    • @aDIYCarGuy
      @aDIYCarGuy  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's still holding. I wasn't as rough on the seal as it looks. People who don't understand the concept of finesse get all worked up when they see the scary scraper tool, my shoe, an ugly hammer, and wood touching the rubber seal.

    • @TEAMCREAM_96
      @TEAMCREAM_96 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      a DIY Car Guy your seal must have been tighter than mine i did the same thing and it not real even but ive been told to never put seals in like that because the lip can get folded over and the seal may work for a month and fail and you need a special tool that the seal slips over but where the fuck im a supposed to find that shit

    • @aDIYCarGuy
      @aDIYCarGuy  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      lol yea a few people have told me about the tool, not sure where to get that either. I made sure my lip didn't fold and the seal definitely needs to be even, if it's not I would take it out and do it again with a new seal. If it's uneven it will wobble out from the rotation. Hopefully my seal holds up, if it doesn't I'm gonna drive the car into a quarry.
