Kathleen & Wynton are two of the greatest artists of all time, and Haendel was one of the greatest composers of all time. It can't get any better, my friend. God bless you.
Wow! A truly fine moment of music history. One of the greatest trumpeters, one of the greatest singers and one of the greatest composers meet in a moment of sublime beauty. Can It really get much better than this?.
sorry to be offtopic but does anybody know a tool to get back into an instagram account..? I was stupid lost the password. I appreciate any tips you can give me
I can't tell how excited I am to have found this video. I never knew such a duet existed. Two of my favorite musicians. This is just great. So peaceful as well :)
Bravissimo! ❤🥲

I was in a restaurant one day in St. Louis and Wynton was at another table. I noticed that he said grace over his meal. I was able to get his autograph and proud to do so.
I love how Kathleen's voice just seems to be floating avove yet all around Wynton's playing...this is really the closest you get to "heavenly" music I think
I saw you in concert, maybe 1990 and I gave you only one rose after your performance, stood up and gave it to you while you were on stage! I love your spiritual essence. I bought your CD's, two in fact and attempted to sing with you...oh my..I forgot how hard it was to sing arias. Glory Glory HALALUIA my sister! I just started to get the nerve to write to all people on the You Tube. Thank you! Love and light to your spirit heart and soul!
Ms. Battle's perfection with this difficult piece set a standard by which its other soloists, female and male (countertenor), are judged. Although Wynton Marsalis is superb, fairly easily I also hear her singing with Alison Balsom's different trumpet and style. Interestingly, Queen Anne may have never heard this ode to her 49th birthday, as she died shortly after the music appeared. There is no record of her having attended a performance of this brilliant piece. The hauntingly funereal tone and tempo proved to be a foreshadowing of events to follow. Brava!
I had forgotten I have this CD from when it was released in the 90s. Thanks for posting. Eternal Source was used Megan and Harry's wedding. Creating magical atmosphere as Prince Charles, ( at the time lead her up to the altar. ❤
DUAS ESTRELAS ''GIGANTES'' DA MÚSICA. A KATHLEEN BATTLE UMA ''DIVA'' DO REPERTÓRIO CLÁSSICO, E O WYNTON MARSALIS UM ''SENHOR'' TROMPETISTA DE JAZZ. BRAVO !!!!!
GLORIOUS!!!!! one of the most beautiful duets of all time....I first heard this recording on cassette...watching the video is priceless...thanks for the post...I believe this was a PBS special
Eternal source of light divine, With double warmth Thy beams display, And with distinguished glory shine, To add a lustre to this day. - Such an amazing song!
Okay, I will: THIS is better. The trumpet is as Handel envisaged (valved trumpets didn't exist back then), and the singer's enunciation is FAR clearer. th-cam.com/video/fCSQd8Nx4mI/w-d-xo.html
Though I very much like the authentic style of Alfred Dellar! There is no doubt that this performance though more earthily rooted with Kathleen's sumptuous voice, still ranks as a dazzling performance.
Authentic? Sorry, there were no recordings made in the Baroque period so we don't know how the original performers sounded...nor will we until we get a time machine. Dellar sang with a forced straight tone. Straight tones is not a natural way of singing when the voice is well supported. Technically, he wouldn't be able to sing the repertoire that Ms. Battle sings.
But the fact is this has been recorded in the written word, that counter tenors sang not only this work by Handel but also Purcell's compositions also! So all though there are no recordings of the singing voice due to the lack of technology during that period, there are however recordings in written history of the style used. As regards to a time machine? Well good luck with that one.
+T Green Handel used mostly castrati, not countertenors. They are NOT the same. The fact is that no one today knows what an adult castrato sounded like. As for authenticity, who's to say that a countertenor sounds more like a castrato than a soprano does?
Point taken! But as castration just for the quality of voice is thought to be repugnant, we have to simulate as closely as possible the style of the past age.
That's the sound of heaven, if anyone haven't yet realized.
It is amazing how Battle's voice achieves such enthralling perfection. Couple that with the humanity ingrained in Handel's music and I stand in awe.

Mrs Battle your voice is like a trumpet. Mr Marsalis your trumpet is like an opera voice.
Wynton's face in the beginning is like "Girl you betta sang....":-). Beautiful
Lol...yep
EEEESHOBAHAHAHA
True...observant you! 😂
You can not get any better than this. Two of the most talented people in their fields performing together. Kismet, Heaven sent.

That's nice, but this isn't a Jesus song. It's literally an original "Happy Birthday" written for Queen Anne by Handel.
Than what are you waiting for i m sure there is a Catholic church near you Jesus is waiting for you with open arms

Most superb classical collaboration ever.

Two Icons in this beautiful masterpiece
So many iconic recordings of this iconic cantata on TH-cam. Each one offers something slightly different.
Beautiful.
The great Ms. Battle with Mr. Marsalis. It's like heaven itself turned on the music ♥️
Awesome! Bless them both for their wonderful gifts
Satisfaction on both faces at the end. Richly deserved
Magnificent performance! Handel would have loved it!

Sis. Kathleen your voice is like a trumpet! You and Wynton Marsalis were very much in sync with each other. May God continue to use you both Bravi!
This is perfection. Kathleen Battle's voice is perfect for this piece. It soars so high, light, and clear, its beautiful sound somehow evoking light.

They really have a Handel on such things.

Bellísimo tema musical
Wow, she's so great. She literally sings with the whole of her face. That's how it's got to be. Just perfect techniques, divine.
great rendition marred only by the bit at 1:48 where someone nearly taped an episode of Dr Who over the top
