  • Here is my review of the new for 2024 Ursus Cub fixed blade knife. This is the shorter version of the big knife Ursus 45 with 4-1/42 inch blade. The Cub has a 3-1/2 inch Magnacut blade and 4-inch handle . It is a nice daily carry and field use knife , however, for me it does not work. The handle is just too short for me and not a good grip in my hand. The other problem is the kydex sheath it is way too tight even after loosening the screws it was very difficult to take out. This was also the case with my Ursus 45 larger knife kydex sheath but I had the factory leather sheath too which I use and sold the kydex sheath. This is a high-quality knife but with issues I mention in the video, if you have large hands I doubt you will have a good comfortable grip on the short handle. If you have smaller hands the handle should feel fine. You have to try one yourself if it works for you, it did not for me. Maybe I will keep it to make leather sheaths for this knife? to sell on ebay not sure. Sorry for my voice I am having allergies sinus drainage to throat but I wanted to review the knife before I return it.

There is a single adjustment screw located underneath the edge of the blade. It slides up and down or back and forth, depending on your orientation, along that whole slot. One way tightens the sheaths grip and the other way loosens the sheaths grip on the knife. They design it like that so that over time as you use your knife and it breaks in the sheath, you can tighten it if it starts to get loose.

Just got mine and the sheath is tight. Hit it with a heat gun and got it perfect in about 30 seconds. At first I felt the handle was a bit small but I’ve been carrying an esee 3 with tkc handles, after playing with the cub for the night I am in love with it now. Awesome little blade. Medium-large hands.

Mine wasn’t as tight as you’re describing but it was a bit tight. I just took the retention screw off (screw under the blade area of the sheath) and that made it better. Also, I push off the ferro rod with my thumb. I think the retention in mine is great.
I did have a Ursus 45 when they first came out that was too tight in the sheath, but I emailed them about it and they mailed me a new sheath that fit much better. You can also adjust kydex other ways and they didn’t have to send me a new sheath as I could have adjusted it myself. It was nice of them to do, though…and glad I didn’t have to do it with any other models of theirs I own..including the Ursus cub.
Also, not everyone wants their knives as easy to remove from the sheath as you showed with that custom, and $200 for 63rc magnacut, a sheath and a ferro rod + holder is a great value. You can easily get a custom kydex sheath for this knife and it’s overall still a good value purchase. Hey but if the handle isn’t right for you then it’s a good idea to send it back or sell it. My hands are medium and it fits me well, but a handle is one of the most important aspects of a knife. So if the handle isn’t a good fit then you won’t use the knife and it’s not worth keeping.

Well everyone is different, Maybe I was a bit harsh in my review of the knife. I still have it and I made a custom leather sheath for it. I can live with the handle length but it would not be a knife used in extensive heavy cutting tasks. The custom Ti Ti Monkey knife kydex fits great it does not rattle and it will not fall out just the right tightness as a kydex should be. I still prefer leather sheaths over kydex and the more traditional carbon steel knives and wood handles over modern super steels and Micarta. I am still undecided if I should keep it to make custom sheaths or return it. I will decide today if $200.00 is worth keeping a knife for sheath making only and minimal use and a shelf queen decoration. Thanks for your reply and watching the video.

Too bad it didn’t work for you. I have both the 45 and the cub. Love them both. I have really big hands, and at first I thought the cub was too small but I just kept handling it and actually found the fit is perfect! I wear a xl glove or bigger… I found the draw grip to seat in my hand beautifully. I carry horizontal appendix. Love white river knives!

I do not think there is a leather sheath for the cub knife. The kydex is horrible I prefer leather sheaths on my fixed blades. Thanks for watching.

I get the impression you hate knives. Lots of people buy custom kydex sheaths for fixed blades from artisans. You could have done the same instead of smearing a top tier USA manufacturer. I regret watching this video.

I say the truth , I own a White river knives Ursus 45 great knife it has a leather sheath that works fine. I am not bashing White river knives themselves or because the cub was not for me . It is a fact the Kydex sheaths are really tight on White river knives and should be made better. The knives are excellent I own 2 of them. Many people today get offended easy by the truth whatever it may be. You do not have to watch my videos it does not matter to me.
