    The issue mainly is finding large asteroids in the safe zone. I don't see how that is any different taking the full asteroid vs mining. The upside of mining is you can have a station in the belt that you can bring the ore back to closer, then haul back to a station once you want to sell.

      We been grabbing roids since day 3. For eg. 1 char stack goes for around 4k. That same roid sold as full untouched will go for 25k... Selling stacks is a waste of time.. big roids of basic ore can get 200-600k for 1 roid... Mine it sell in stacks and be lucky to get 60k

      It'll never stabilize, the more players that join the game, the more people there are to under cut auction house prices. RN selling most ore on the AH nets you less than selling to the ore towers, this wont change, the majority of people that play games like this aren't too bright and will often sell stuff for "less than it's value". It happens in almost every game with a player driven economy. The only thing you can potentially make more money on is the high tier ores that tend to be out of the reach of the "bobs". Zone 1 and 2 ores will always be cheaper than they should be because the vast majority of people don't assign real value to their time spent in a video game, and they don't think about things like AH taxes that reduce their profit margin. It's why you can sell your ore to the ore tower and make about 10% than the chumps selling their ore on the AH.

  • @dmitryshcherbakov3794
    @dmitryshcherbakov3794 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    While that way may be more cost efficient in terms cost of the ship itself, it's not as cost efficient if you have decent mining ship with 4+ lasers. Remember, that if you mine it manually you are getting mostly only the more valuable stuff, which, even tho takes more time to do, is by far going to be faster money, since you can bring far more actual ore in one trip, so the more scarce asteroids (and in particular big ones) become, the more manual mining would make sense financially. Plus, if you sell it to the terminal, you are just converting it into credits without contributing to the economy, further hurting the prices. I really hope that developers will get rid of the current "infinite drain" system, since it's the only thing that keeps the economy from working properly. I do realize that there is going to be a wipe in near future and it doesn't matter in the end, but if the same attitude towards selling ore for quick cash into an endless nothing after the wipe will continue, it will really hurt the game in the long run.

  • @MrQuantumInc
    @MrQuantumInc 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I suspect the weird price difference is because one is trading with other players and the other is selling to NPCs, i.e. one is subject to supply and demand and the other is based on how the developers programmed it. Since it is early access and the devs have other priorities there could be a serious balance problem.
    The "Asteroid Mining" feature video from 2019 mentions the same idea, dragging asteroids directly to station, to the receptacles you mentioned. I have a few ideas for such asteroid haulers. It occurs to me that a tractor beam turret could be used to re-arrange objects inside your massive cargo lock frame to fit better. It would take more time but allow you to use the space more efficiently. For the technique you show in the video I think cargo lock beams would work better.

    • @ArmitageShanksMC
      @ArmitageShanksMC 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tractor beams are super inaccurate though, the beams "flex" based on the weight of what they are moving, so they can be unpredictable. And I believe cargo lock beams are a lot harder to plan power requirements for, as they consume power based on the weight they are holding, where the lock frames just use a fixed amount of power based on the overall volume of the frame. I mean, you could just go overkill on generators and batteries to accommodate for the cargo lock beams, but that would seriously eat into your ship budget and might never be efficient.

    It was to my understanding that hauling asteroids back didn't net you as much $ as actually mining and selling it yourself.
    Which, considering that I've read in multiple places that asteroids were supposed to be finite, would be a waste to just haul a bunch of asteroids for less credits and not even keeping the ore in the economy.

    • @TheFloorface
      @TheFloorface 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      the rocks are finite but they're also in the order of billions if not trillions in the eos belt alone. even if every person in the world was playing this game they still wouldnt run out.

    • @skroll82
      @skroll82 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There’s a lot of things that happen that don’t keep the ore in the economy. I’ve probably put a million charodium into basic craft benches and selling them to the NPC shop.

    • @Baleur
      @Baleur 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well thats wrong. You get 1.6x the value of the total ore in the asteroid if you bring it in intact to the sell place in Origin stations, compared to if you mined the minerals normally. Thats in the latest version of the game at least.
      It pays to stay up to date with your information instead of just assuming things =)
      So yes, you do gain MORE money if you bring intact asteroids.
      The problem is a lot of these ship designs are poorly thought out, so they cant function efficently or reliably.
      But if you can, hauling asteroids is more profitable per time, because you dont need to spend time mining, you just grab it and haul straight back to station, faster turnaround time, plus that +60% profit bonus.
      The only downside is that you wont get any materials, you just get the money.
      But, you could arguably use said +60% profit to simply buy the materials you need on the AH.

    • @Baleur
      @Baleur 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheFloorface Thats not entirely true. The devs confirmed there are a few billions of rocks in each belt.
      If 1 million players played the game 3 hours every day and mined 1 rock per minute, then we'd mine out about 1 billion rocks in a few months. Do the math, its quite surprising.

      It is important to note that safezone ores are the new player experience. I think they are making a mistake letting it deplete as much as they have been. Particularly with their (IMHO bizarre) decision to have the base laborer set the generator up to 100 and not tell you how to lower it or something or just not have it default to 100.

    • @sdhority
      @sdhority 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Thk10188965 That is indeed an important note to make. My initial comment was a statement upon the excessive strip mining of the SafeZone by no longer new players. People playing for "maximum income" instead of continuing out past the SafeZone is exactly why the new player experience is quickly becoming terrible. Frostbyte needs to address the potential income charodium strip mining offers or people will never leave the SafeZone because it's become clear all they care about is income per hour.

    • @Thk10188965
      @Thk10188965 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@sdhority Yea something where the safe zone ores are much more focused on being used rather than sold. I feel a 'medium safe zone' where you don't have to fear other players, only collisions with rocks you or your group are hosting (because otherwise people would weaponize rocks and the point of the zone be defeated) with some more valuable resources might help. The 150m/s speed cap really hurts though; stuff has to become magnitudes more valuable to offset travel time. A big part of this is the SAFE part of the safe zone. Ships are large investments, putting them at risk jeopardizes return on that investment, so why do it when you can just not.

      This doesn't even get into how ships for attackers are almost certainty designed to be cheap and disposable while the miner's ships will tend toward large and expensive investments. What would be needed is some sort of insurance system, so what is at stake isn't the ship itself but rather the cargo. This of course would basically require salvage not to be a thing or insurance would just be a money printer.
