    Hey Tim, great video. I've been tying monkey's fist key fobs for many years and have probably given away hundreds. Have you ever thought of using dice for the core? They work perfectly and you can get a really tight and symmetrical knot. Thanks again for the video, I hadn't thought of using the shake knot to finish off the key fob but I'm going to make a few to see how they look. keep up the good work...

      I've made about 50 Monkey Fist using the 550 Paracord x 7 strand, SpeedyJig and 1" wood balls as a core. I was wondering if a Cube would make a better filler piece as compared to a ball? Using a 5/8" Dice, I made a 5 pass using 550 x 7 strand Paracord and it turned out ok, similar to the ball.

    Hi Tim, I use Mikko Snellmans method of finishing a monkeys fist, with a diamond knot, where one of the two working ends is returned back down the centre of the diamond knot where it is cut off, and the end is sealed with a lighter. This leaves a loop on top of the diamond knot, leaving the other working end to be cut off level and sealed. Larger monkeys fists tied on polystyrene balls make wonderful Christmas tree baubles

    • @TheWeaversofEternity
      @TheWeaversofEternity  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Robert, I've seen that method before. Does it work well with paracord? I think the other method to have a similar result would be to tie the monkey's fist with two terminal ends and have the mid point of the cord at the top.

    What kit would you recommend for a complete beginner to start with along with any essentials? I feel like this would be a better hobby to pick up instead of knitting during this quarantine period lol

    • @TheWeaversofEternity
      @TheWeaversofEternity  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Junayed, I would suggest starting off simple. Don't get too many things unless you decide you really like the hobby. A really basic set of tools for paracording would be sharp scissors, a lighter, and a ruler or measuring tape. You can also get some plastic buckles too if you like. From there the next step up would be some fids, a knotter's tool / marlin spike, and maybe a jig, but that's for when you're really sure you'll be spending a lot of time with the hobby.

    How much of a tail on the stationary end?

    • @TheWeaversofEternity
      @TheWeaversofEternity  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Leave as much as you would need for tying the key chain part, so it depends on what you want to do. If you have too much on one of the ends after the knot is tied, just cinch it through the knot from one end to the other.

    I don't know if you're still responding to comments, or not. Concerning the third key fob; when I go back from the key ring with the cross knots, they line up like you'd expect. However, in your video, you're return wraps twist around instead of going straight up. What am I doing wrong?

    • @TheWeaversofEternity
      @TheWeaversofEternity  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi David, I think I know what you're getting at. What's happening is that you're tying the box knot, while I'm tying the crown sinnet. I apologize for not showing this section as clearly as I could have, but here are two videos showing the difference between the two and perhaps that will give you a better idea of what's happening. I hope these help!

    • @trelligan42

      One variant I've seen a lot is to simply tie a knot (thumb knot, figure-8) on the starting end of your monkey fist and put that in the center. It works well for these small 3-loop version.

    • @TheWeaversofEternity
      @TheWeaversofEternity  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You don't have to insert a core into the monkey's fist, but it does make the knot more round and solid. You can still tie a monkey's fist with no core, but it will be a little misshapen.
