Two adults, talking like adults. That was a real treat and such a refreshing change from interviews where the interviewer is constantly hurrying it along. Thank you.
Hi, Josh. Thanks for asking. One of the many joys of moving to Paradise (aka Cambridge) is the ease with which one bumps into notable people. In this case, it was after Evensong one weekday evening, when I had drifted in, and this unspoilt Lass was alone, tidying up. Pembroke is also next door to my joint-favourite place of worship, viz, St Botolph's
Anna's outlook on music, her responsibility in worship, and understanding of what music does to the soul, plus her sheer knowledge of the subject is amazing! She is inspirational, and I love that she is not at all snobby. Brilliant!
Sheer perfection. The most grown up interview I have ever seen. I was led here by my own exploration and growing appreciation of broad genes of music as I age. The world is much the richer for people like this. Thankyou.
Anna has done more to popularise the classical organ than anyone I can think of in the last 50 years . Having always loved pipe organs since I was a sprog in the late 60s I can honestly say she’s great at making it fun and not the stiff and starchy instrument it’s often portraid as.
There is Jonathan Scott and his brother, Tom. Fabulous recordings and live streams! www.youtube.com/@scottbrothersduo My wife and I attended an organ concert last summer with five organists (very rare, I was told)!. Four of the five organists were under 40 years old! It was an amazing evening!
I came to this video due to Miss Lapwood as I have become a fan. I must say this is one of the best interviews or should I say conversations, that I was privileged to be a fly on the wall for. I will now jump down the "Having a GAS" rabbit hole. Thank you.
I feel like when I want to feel emotion in a certain way, music can provide. There are many different types of music, and emotions can 100% be conveyed or be interpreted as something familiar to the heart and soul. The pipe organ for one is one of the best instruments that stand alone and aside from others as it can be used in its own way to create a complete atmosphere that no other instrument can produce as it has such a wide range and can sound so different to the next organ depending on it's size and build in conclusive to it's environment in which it's housed/built. Truly a great creation.
You do not hear the organ's sounds, You feel them . I love J.S. Bach since childhood , organs are my favourite instrument , Otomo with Anna's contribution was a masterpiece which brought tears into my eyes. Happy New Year Anna and more projects promoting organ classical music.
These two might really enjoy experiencing the worship service at a black American Baptist church one Sunday. Hands up, bodies swaying, heads upturned, faces beaming, voices shouting praises and hosannas. The whole thing. The full nine yards. The way every church service should be. Yeah. 🌟
Thank you both, I tripped over Anna Lapwood on the Philipino vlog, I think, where she got to perform on the 9999 pipe organ with someone called Bono, I think. Next, I wound up here and have totally enjoyed meeting you both. I will look to see more of Anna Lapwood. You and Anna just made my day. I'm 86 years old.
Anna is not only a very talented musician, she is well educated, highly intelligent, and very perceptive. Her ability to appreciate good music of all genres as music worth hearing. Is very refreshing. She is also so well spoken and engaging.
Have discovered Anna on UTube and stumbled on this interview on the same medium. She brings a joy to everything she does and seems a great artist. The interviewer himself does a brilliant job and will be following him also. Thank God for UTUBE to keep an old pensioner from going stir crazy
It wasn't until I watched the playing at the end of this video that I saw how influential her harp background is. She plays with the style of a classical concert pianist; but there is an extra lightness, fluidity, and flare in her fingers. The harp background is also noticeable in her presentation to the keys, and how her emotions are displayed in the hands, arms, shoulders, and head movements -- again with a flowing movement as the notes are played. I've never seen her TT; but I've been watching her on YT in the AH practice sessions, even before seeing the clips of the memorable concert.
Ms. Lapwood omitted one of the "re-wirings" that go with the transition from piano to organ, and that is getting comfortable with the hand positions required by the manuals. The few times that I attempted to play an organ, my mind absolutely rebelled at having my hands not be on the same plane, as in piano playing.
After watching this interview and listening to some of her performances, I can say I gained a whole new level of appreciation for the organ. I won't hear it the same way again! It's incredible the work Anna put in and what she accomplished over 10 years. Meanwhile, I'm just trying to learn basic piano and coordinate my two hands...
I played bass over 40 years which I just retired from about 5 years ago and stumbled upon your channel and love watching and listening to you play organ! Back to my bass which for most of those years I played all varying styles of church/Christian music almost all included a B3 Hammond organ! Nothing like the sound of that of an Organ!! Organ is a fading art so hopefully you will re-spark those wanting to play organ!!!
There was a cathedral in the USA that had two organs up in the choir loft. It was usually the smaller one that was being played during services. I was able to attend a benefit performance one night. A skilled organist was putting the amazing full pipe organ through its paces. The entire building came alive. I especially enjoyed how the physical building materials and the air flow continued to react for a bit after the last note was played. There is a sense of reverential awe in the concluding silence.
Fabulous conversation I came across Anna a few months ago when one of her shorts came up on one of my social feeds then she introduced me to Interstellar and I've become obsessed with the music and had film which hits me on a whole other level and brings me to tears The best video clip I've seen was when everyone got their torches for Interstellar it's was unbelievablely emotional and live the bonobo one too
She is fantastic!! And I’ve always felt that genre shouldn’t limit the appreciation of good music. It’s so great to hear someone of her caliber say it!!!👍👍
Thank you so much for this discussion with Anna. I’ve been following her but have only seen short clips. This is so much more than an interview and your discussion of music is engaging and thought provoking. 🙏🏽 🎶
Caught her late night prom on BBC Sounds, why did I not know about this before… I need to get a repeat! I agree with the comment that good music can come from any genre… my music collection spans pretty much everything. Rare to have such a transcendent piece like Interstellar on the Albert Hall organ was on another level! I do hope that we can get more of this sort of transcendent music, but it’s not something you can make to order?! Amazing interview, amazing musician, amazing person all-round.
Thank you very much! The conversation has been fascinating, even though sometimes a little bit difficult to understand (I'm italian). Anna is in my opinion one of the TOP musicians of this period and brought me to understand better the organ.
Stereo typical organist like my Grammy she was a good organist that played at the Presbyterian Church and would play ragtime piano at the legion hall dances Friday nights. When it comes to hymns you should use Pink Floyd's "On The Turning Away" in a service. Music is not founded on logic but transcends logic and impact the soul through emotion it is possible to change your attitude by what you listen to. Any one who teaches and guides the next generation has made themselves immortal in that you will live on through them.
Excellent, inspirational i/v. Anna playing Otomo with Bonobo at The Royal Albert Hall is well, how can I describe it? Watch it with headphones. More of mixing it up with contemporary music. Many thanks Anna for sharing your hard work/talent.
I've watched a load of great and able organists playing wonderful music over the years. Then there's The Phenomenon Anna Lapwood. Can make even rubbish tunes sound magical.
This interview was so inspiring on many levels as I am coming to the organ much later in life than most because of a catrosphic stroke in 2017 which derailed my aspirations for continuing to play the piano. I'm inspired, through this interview to focus on practicing, consistently.
I very much enjoyed this interview with Anna. Well done by all involved. I would like to see an interview with composer, conductor, educator, organist and fellow TH-camr Fraser Gartshore.
Orchestra and EDM are such an amazing match. I have never heard a bad edm track that has a live Orchestra. Robert Miles was so good at combining too. I will say one if the first tines i heard if Anna was from the show. It was magical and I would love to see it live.
In 1976, Keith Jarrett made a double album, Hymns/Spheres, with improvisations recorded at the famous baroque organ in Ottobeuren Abbey, Germany. It's really good. The opening piece 'Hymn of Remembrance"" is indeed moving. Well worth looking it up here on YT.
Wow what a wonderful young lady. She's not only super talented on the organ but incredibly good looking with a wonderful and joyful personality to match.
Great interview! For me the choral/brass/organ music of Gabrieli moves me to transcendency. I still remember when Columbia released the Glory of Gabrieli - quite a religious experience for me. As were other followup releases - super great stuff!
My father, and his father and mother, and his aunts and uncles, and their fathers and mothers, going back at least 12 generations, all played the organ and became music teachers. I can't even read music. I don't even know where to begin.
I can see that Anna through her amazing music will raise tens of thousands of pounds and she will change thousands of lives in poor and underdeveloped countries. Amazing Anna.❤
If I had to do music in another life I would seriously focus on piano and reading writing music (sheet music)!!! Ninety percent of my playing was ear playing....hear it once and I had it down!
Hi Anna I can’t wait to hear you play take me out to the ballgame on the biggest pipe organ in the world im a bass player here in boca Raton fla and I love pipe organ music hope you can play it sometime would love to play with you sometime when you are here in south fla let me know blessings!
Today I'm Having a GAS with Anna Lapwood! Organist, conductor and broadcaster
*Find out more about Anna here: **www.annalapwood.co.uk*
Quite frankly, Anna IS interstellar, as a performer and as a human being ❤, with the best smile on the internet 😊
Two adults, talking like adults. That was a real treat and such a refreshing change from interviews where the interviewer is constantly hurrying it along. Thank you.
Interviews for me don't usually bring tears! I'm a grizzled old long haul trucker, but I cried tears of joy at this one. Anna! I'm a new fan!
She is amazing and deserves every bit of praise she is getting...
Anna is a great ambassador for the organ. May her career be long.
And having met her on an unplanned one-to-one, I can vouch for the fact that the one thing she lacks, is an ego. ## Superb interview.
wow where was that?

She's much the happy girl with a big toybox. :-)
She doesn't lack one, she just knows where it belongs. =;o}
Anna is a National Treasure.
Global! ❤
Very special woman. Thank you.
It's not just her exceptional musical ability, she's the most honest, grounded, beautiful soul on earth.
Thankyou.
Thanks for your feedback, glad you enjoyed watching plenty more podcasts on the channel
A very very special lady indeed...
She's talented, smart and cute. Who wouldn't blush around her?
Anna has done more to popularise the classical organ than anyone I can think of in the last 50 years .
Having always loved pipe organs since I was a sprog in the late 60s I can honestly say she’s great at making it fun and not the stiff and starchy instrument it’s often portraid as.
Check out Gert Van Hoef. Another young dude bringing the pipe organ to life.
There is Jonathan Scott and his brother, Tom. Fabulous recordings and live streams!

My wife and I attended an organ concert last summer with five organists (very rare, I was told)!. Four of the five organists were under 40 years old! It was an amazing evening!
I ADORE Anna as an American! She is making the organ (and choral music) Relevant once again! I watch EVERYTHING she does THANK YOU ANNA!!!!!
I came to this video due to Miss Lapwood as I have become a fan. I must say this is one of the best interviews or should I say conversations, that I was privileged to be a fly on the wall for. I will now jump down the "Having a GAS" rabbit hole. Thank you.
She is such a Talent Anna Lapwood such a carasmatic character and influence in what she does. I just love her to bits🎵🎵🎵💜

She is one of the best ‘ambassadors’ for our instrument, and as someone else commented, there is no ego to get in the way.

Truly charming, talented, articulate and engaging. One of the world’s best ambassadors … no matter the subject.
Thank you for a brilliantly interesting and thoughtful interview; no, not "interview" ... "conversation". 🙂
These two might really enjoy experiencing the worship service at a black American Baptist church one Sunday. Hands up, bodies swaying, heads upturned, faces beaming, voices shouting praises and hosannas. The whole thing. The full nine yards. The way every church service should be. Yeah. 🌟

Love listening to Anna playing the organ , she played it beautifully
Thank you both for the chat with Anna and for the introduction to Keith Jarrett's amazing Koln Concert... CD ordered...
The Lucy Wolsley of the organ, such a talant.

Since you guys weren't sure... I'm pretty sure the 64' stop goes down to 8 Hz. Great interview, BTW!
"Tuba is community service." Ya I played tuba. Wonderful talk. Thank you Anna!
Fabulous conversation I came across Anna a few months ago when one of her shorts came up on one of my social feeds then she introduced me to Interstellar and I've become obsessed with the music and had film which hits me on a whole other level and brings me to tears

Fascinating interview. Thank you.
What an amazing personality! The world is in need for such great humanism.
She is fantastic!! And I’ve always felt that genre shouldn’t limit the appreciation of good music. It’s so great to hear someone of her caliber say it!!!👍👍
Stunning interview with a stunning and talented lady!! Very interesting discussion ... thanks!!
Thank you so much for this discussion with Anna. I’ve been following her but have only seen short clips. This is so much more than an interview and your discussion of music is engaging and thought provoking. 🙏🏽 🎶
Great interview. Nice to hear an adult discourse on religion too. C of E was part of my musical foundation too.
Absolutely fantastic interview and chat with Anna. Loved every minute of it. Thank you.

so in agreement with Anna's point about genres...it's about good music...oh and reference to Keith Jarrett...perfect 🙂
I like the attitude for doing nice things, a joy
Thanks for sharing this interesting conversation. The touch on religious experience is a plus.

I love this organist, director, musician, and woman, she is fantastic in every way. Greetings from Argentina.

Great interview. In case noone actually posted this yet, 64 foot equates to 8-Hz.
Yes - 8 Hz is tricky to hear but it certainly flaps your T-shirt!
A genuine and lovely woman. Sublime
The most beautiful smile on earth.
Amazing
Music is spiritual!!!
Wow what a wonderful young lady. She's not only super talented on the organ but incredibly good looking with a wonderful and joyful personality to match.
What a lovely and cosmically talented soul.
That was thoroughly enjoyable. 👍
Glad to hear it!
fascinating

Dear Anna (if you happen to be reading the comments) - check out Keith Jarrett's album Hymns/Spheres, which is a solo organ improvisation
Fantastic !! Thank you. Very interesting !!
25:01 for the part about the Bonobo performance
Would love to hear this very talented classical organist play a Wurlitzer theatre organ.....
She is amazing. Bravo from Philadelphia - David
Genius she has great awareness about her self
Sound engineer: I have power amplifiers
Anna: Hold... my... coffee...
My father, and his father and mother, and his aunts and uncles, and their fathers and mothers, going back at least 12 generations, all played the organ and became music teachers. I can't even read music. I don't even know where to begin.

I loved this! Thanks to both of you for your time and passion! 👏
Glad you enjoyed it!
Danke!
Did you hear that men? She said MISS Lapwood. We still have a chance
If I had to do music in another life I would seriously focus on piano and reading writing music (sheet music)!!! Ninety percent of my playing was ear playing....hear it once and I had it down!
go anna👏👍amazing to watch.
Having a job that you love doesn't change that it's still a job and requires *time* spent *working*.
Royal Albert basically asked her to become the Phantom in their belfry.
That Italian song was O sole mio...
Anna not knowing of Cory Henry is ironic since Cory’s epic arrangement of Billie Jean was premiered at Royal Albert Hall for Proms!
Practice midnight to 6? Sell tickets we will come. It would be a further honour to be there ❤😊
Huge renaissance actually right now…
Hi Anna I can’t wait to hear you play take me out to the ballgame on the biggest pipe organ in the world im a bass player here in boca Raton fla and I love pipe organ music hope you can play it sometime would love to play with you sometime when you are here in south fla let me know blessings!
Anna darling do you ever do original pieces??
Everyone deserves to get lost in the music 🎼 ❤
The last minute... got completely lost and my multitasking talent just fades slowly away in comparison.....
