Here's the thing I like the most: Alessandro constantly mentioning the fact he doesn't know what he's doing and he's just "playing around". Absolutely love that!
I would watch this if it was a 2 hour documentary... seriously the best stuff on the internet now, nick asking perfect questions on a nerdy level to the most admirable and humble sound designer we have on the planet today. Thanks, cant wait for part 2, 3, 4 and 5 :-)
i dont mean to be so off topic but does someone know of a way to log back into an Instagram account? I stupidly forgot my account password. I love any tricks you can offer me!
I love Cortini’s experimental, outside the box approach to music. It actually inspired me to splurge on Elektron OT, A4 and MD (within the span of a few months,) despite having no prior experience with grooveboxes or hardware in general. Jumping in the deep end, but having a blast and taking musical journeys that never would have occurred to me on the familiar ground of my iPad production software.
The Elektrons are fantastic, I bought a Digitone as my first... & since then I've bought all the others besides a Machinedrum. I've only given away my Model Cycles & Samples now recently to the other guys I know & work with too, to get them onto using them now. Whatever u do, don't sell off your Elektrons to favour or buy other Elektrons on the way... The more u learn from owning 1 & then pairing it with another... Like u have already done. With a pair u start to really get things flowing & going in ways that hopefully will get u hooked into the Elektron ways, & in the box composition just won't do it for ya in the unique out of the box methodology Elektrons offer instead imo. U will use ya ears & not your eyes more producing with the great grooveboxs & hardware stuff nowadays.
Thanx for sharing Alessandro! I find your analogy of creating music interesting, the turning knobs, or in my case moving sliders, process can be fun:) I love the Buchla synth, I noticed Buchla uses 3.5 mm patch chords much nicer than 1/4 inch. a good thing.
This is absolutely awesome. So glad I found it. Even though my music is very different to alessandros he has given me a lot of influence. Love to play him my tunes one day. Thanks for the great vid.
What a magical moment @ 07:32 Wonderfull piece of music , and the look on Nick's face .;)..can't really tell if he's amazed by it or the contrary , he looks sauer
He’s the reason I found CL! He used both on the opening track of hesitation marks. Plumbutter for the rhythm and coco on trents vocals. But he sadly got rid of em a few years back :( love your vids btw!
I think there is a fortune to be made with a re-packaged Synthi/Cat bundle. Each unit ships with your very own housecat, and with time you'll get that true analog cat-fur-in-the-circuitry mojo, which you just can't with any 'cat fur' emulator.
The Putney has a certain menace to its sound that I've always liked. "Greetings from sunny England!" and all that. lol No wonder the Floyd loved them so much.
Forse 3 this guy is awesome! The sounds are amazing in the finished product. To me making sounds like this is all i care about. Its so dreamy and you loose yourself in sound its like a healing process. Theres so much depth in sound that in todays music you cannot find but in here there is all the depth. Too bad all music wasnt made like this the record companies would go out of business because everything else sounds so bad compared to the depth in his albums its so real.
Come to think of it, it's probably the best way to invest touring money. Most of these will go up in prices, and inspire him to create more great music in the meantime.

Playing around with good ears and good taste.

ollilaboratories i agree, humble and helpful, Allesandro is a very great guy!!
Perfectly said
Absolutely ok with you Olli!
indeed and great way to learn what equipment helps craft professional level electronic music.

His enthusiasm is so childlike and in a wonderful way. A lot of musicians lose that love over time.
These videos are like therapy. Always putting them on in the background.
Ahaha, me too!
Came for the synths...stayed for Frank.
Love Alessandro. Such a creative and talented guy. Inspired me to play synths and have the patience required to get better.
Thanks for the opportunity to see this setup. Though I can dream, would be nice to build / collect a bit myself. One day.

Fantastic! Interesting point of view.
Super interesting interview.
Thanks guys!
OMG THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS!!! i could watch videos of his gear for days... excellent content, sonicstate!
Alessandro sei il numero 1 al mondo. Un vero sconosciuto Orgoglio italiano.
"If I'm gonna break it, I'm gonna break it." Lol. What a cool guy! No wonder he worked with NIN for so long.
Really great interview - good sounds, and very genuine!
This was really something special. Thanks guys!
Loved it, thank you very much!
Oooo I spy a tempest. Very nice. I picked one up too. Awesome instrument. You should post some vids w/ you playing the tempest! 🤘🏽
Great stuff. This was very interesting, I hope there are many more parts. More cats & synthesizers please! =)
first sighting of PB's work at 10'ish minutes in a cocodeer it looks like v1 beautiful colorful banana soup
and the v1 plumbutter behind @10:57
damn ,that's my old vcs3! I miss it!!! at least it's used well!
Hope there are about 45 of these. Very nice video Nick and team. I believe it was a cirklon he was using as master clock

nice interview! will re-watch again ;-)
I do hope he talks about his Ciat Lonbarde instruments!
Did anyone else notice the Meathead Perspective pic of Alessandro on the wall at 4:02? I love it!
Annie Samuel I was just scrolling through the comments to see if anyone else noticed =P
Good lord...what a fun room to be in!
Awesome! Ready for the next part :D
17:56 ahhh so that’s where the metallic grinding sound comes from on SABBIA.

Nick passes out from awesome.
can't believe... I must be there... like: now
Awesome to put a face to the name! Awesome gear man. Follow his IG account. It's great. Especially, Frank.
I’ve watched these so many times
The painting behind Alessandro says it all.
2001:A Space Odyssey Screensaver. Neat!
WOW. That sequence at 7:33 is pure sonic bliss.
Anyone else clock the Verbos Eurorack at 13:37? ;)
Great video guys!
That Nine Inch Nails money must be pretty good for him to be able to afford to experiment like this.
This is sooo awesome, thanks Alessandro (and of course sonicstate:)
Alessandro rocks!
You have to be a genius like Cortini to use the Octatrack.....
love that "Cat on Buchla" painting in the back :D
The Putney has a certain menace to its sound that I've always liked. "Greetings from sunny England!" and all that. lol

Wow...it's literally a tutorial... :D He is legend :)
Thanks Sonic State.
Brilliant video. And love Frank
This man is an absolute hero. What did he say he's using as a clock, except Logic?
Sequentix Cirklon & Innerclock. Systems. I'm assuming a Sync Gen.
A Cirklon sequencer. Logic takes over when its transport is started, and it sends clock through an Innerclock Systems device, if I understood well.
Frank is chillin in the Studio
Just Awesome...
Awesome episode, well done guys
What a lucky cat..just sitting there listening..
2 Legends!
Wow love those Synthi sounds!
oh yes! been waiting for this one!
Does anyone know which of his album/piece/tracks includes the "bathtub" ambient recording he describes at the 11:00 mark?
Inspirational to say the least!
Buchla 200e: ”I didn’t go to sleep”
Awesome, nice chill cat also!
Thanks for the video!
Our lord Richard David James is watching Mr.Cortini over his Buchla system.
Come to think of it, it's probably the best way to invest touring money. Most of these will go up in prices, and inspire him to create more great music in the meantime.
Ciao Alessandro, saluti dall'Italia :)
7:31 .... something deadmou5 would never be able to write
You got that right mate.
Discordant random bleeps and beats?
@@illustriouschin I can tell you're more of bass-drum-on-every-quarter-note guy
If I had the Buchla and the EMS synths, I would never even look at the MC-202.
I had an MC-202 it needs a modification just to get the cv and gate to work properly.
From what i read the SH-101 has the same synth engine as the 202 but with better sequencer.
Very insightful :)
Great vid!
