    When I finally get to doing these I will export them into UE at the end of each video to see the actual difference in game. I do understand the value of optimalization but also would like to see some end result with issues on the go to catch bad habits before they develop. I've learned recently that there can be some hidden issues that I haven't imagined when I added the sea shack to UE. (Quads and ngons resulted a holes on the model after import for example)

    One request please, the presses you make are obscured by the menu, it is not too bad, but can be better to move one of them to another side of the screen if you can 🙏

    Thanks for pointing out the auto merge option! I didn't know that existed and I'm sure I will make good use of it. If all the quads will be converted to tris by a game engine, is it better to convert everything to tris prior to painting?

    • @zacpier
      @zacpier 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you don't remove a quad in the process of optimizing your mesh, there's no reason to convert it to a triangle. Triangles are more painful to work with (in general), and any remaining quads will be converted to triangles when you export your mesh, so by converting your mesh to triangles you're just making it harder for yourself.
      Not to say that there's never a reason to use triangles, as this video shows, but there's also no reason to actively seek them out.

    Should I invest in a drawing tablet since I'm trying to get better at sculpting?

      Would definitely recommend it. I got an older Wacom tablet from 2015 i think they were called intuous pro back then in A4 format. It doesn't have to be a Wacom but I'd definitely recommend A4 size so you got enough space for moving around on your tablet. I personally also didn't benefit much from a tablet with a screen, i got a Wacom hybrid tablet as well running Android but to be honest i just use the regular intuous and it's also a lot less expensive than tablets with screens.

    After a 7 months break I am back! Now I have forgotten everything I learned in the previous tutorials ^^. How to switch to smooth lighting? In my modell every face has different brightness and it's very hard to see the shape. Thanks for your great tutorials! I will try to catch up ;)

      @@grabbitt one question, wouldn't it be a good idea to use the decimate modifier?

    Can we use the face option "Triangulate Faces" and then use the Decimate modifier to reduce the count?

    cant i be lazy and rely on just decimate.. ? :(
    so i can merge vertices where there are no silhouettes..
    can i ask if what does silhouettes represent in solid mode.. are they the dark shade ? arent they just shadows?.. or i just misunderstand what you mean and not getting the point..

    I realize we're supposed to know a little bit before hand, but I still don't know what "n-gons" are.

    • @gower1973
      @gower1973 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      ngons just means a face that has more than 4 vertices or sides, A triangle has three and a Quad four, so an ngon would have five or more, its bad because when it converts to tris you have no control over the topology arrangement and may end up with shading artifacts, it also wont deform correctly which is bad for animations, you can get away it for static objects and certain specific use cases like static renders of objects, but for game engines its a no no.

    • @Uhfgood

      @@gower1973 - Thanks very much for the explanation :-)

    • @digitalspecter
      @digitalspecter 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also, anyone wondering about the name. If you have a face with 3 sides it's a triangle, 4 sided is a quad, 5 sided is a pentagon, 6 sided is a hexagon.. 7->heptagon, 8->octagon etc. that's why the faces with more than 4 sided got called n-gons.
