You looked after that set well! Even that Porsche RSR still has the little canards on the wing tips!
I had the same set for Christmas '83 but I didn't look after it, I believe some bits are probably still kicking around in my mum's garage though.
I bought the Monza set again in 2006 and it still runs to this day! Very hardy stuff!
I can also remember the matchbox cars needed 'warming up' - lots of stuttering running until they'd done a few laps with lots of push starts and then they'd eventually be 'up to temp' and would run beautifully. You didn't have to do that with the Hornby Scalextric though, they'd just run out of the box.
You can also get spare pickups and tyres from Ebay auite readily though I found some appropriately sized black silicone rubber tubing which provides many tyres for not a lot of dosh!
    Thanks for the upload!

We got almost 20 years out of our Christmas present 🎁.
There was a bit of a cold start performance issue with the cars.
      Just like the real thing.
The police car was very speedy.
The jaguar was silky smooth and the corvette was brutal.
It seemed like it was spitting fire 🔥
It was just a game on the floor at my house.
I've just discovered that our family friend had sabotaged the jaguar car back in the 1990's.
He did up the body mounting screw so tight it stripped the head and cracked the base of the car.

I had a later version of this set.
It was a Christmas present 🎁 for 3 boys and we drove it for 20 years and then it all wore out at the same time so we stopped playing with it.
There was NO spare parts or some expert to fix it.
So it still sits in storage waiting to get fixed.
I've just restored the cars, I think.
I'm having the same difficulties that you are with the track not working.
Back in the day, these things were very fast. It seemed faster than the old scalextric cars from a decade earlier.
The matchbox powertrack was a hit in my neighbourhood.
The big thing with these cars is they'd do 180 degree turns with endless wheelspins.
The biggest problem was there was no support.
    Retailers were silly.
    They ruined their own businesses.
Still to this day, every owner still wants to get their powertrack race track going again.
A modern version with repairable equipment would be great.
This product offers a unique experience.
I could handle a bigger scale version too.
We had no idea that the trend was over years earlier.
We can't understand why people just don't want to have fun.

Cool was it running or have you had to do any work on it ? One thing I found with mine was the cars ran loads better when I replaced the tyres because they had shrunk over time, and I replaced the brushes too ! Hope you enjoy the video ! Thanks for commenting ! M

@@BROOKSCOLLECTABLES oh but people of all ages were so fiercely loyal to a brand, back then.
If you said you had the matchbox set, people wouldn't speak to you ever again.
You were considered to be the worst person in the world.
I kept it a secret that I had a slot car track cause the next question would be WHICH BRAND.
So then they'd attack if it wasn't scalextric.
180 degree turns with wheel spinning power and a moving bridge was superior.
Buying scalextric is Buying multiple cars and learning about them.
Matchbox powertrack is about the extreme performance and your driving life experience.
      They're 2 different lifestyles.

I didn't know Matchbox Toys made a rival to Scalextric. As you may know, the Lesney Matchbox factory was based in Hackney but a second one, where my mother worked for a while, was built at Abbey Wood. She bought me a model every night , some unpainted, with permission from the supervisor of course. Nice video.

    • @BROOKSCOLLECTABLES
      @BROOKSCOLLECTABLES  3 ปีที่แล้ว

It’s a shame they didn’t catch on because they were great (if slightly unreliable) toys ! I think they only lasted 78 to 82 ! Did you keep any of the unpainted ones ?😂😂 thank you for sharing that story too. M

@@BROOKSCOLLECTABLES From an early age I was always interested in Matchbox, Dinky, Corgi, Majorette and Lone star. The Matchbox models made in Abbey Wood were mainly made up designs, such as Gruesome Twosome, Javelin etc, which I didn't like anywhere near as much as real cars. My favourite was No17 'The Londoner' of that range. It was not a bad London bus. The earlier solid wheels Matchbox cars/buses were much nicer with their boxes, they were based on real vehicles.

    • @BROOKSCOLLECTABLES

@@BROOKSCOLLECTABLES in Australia in the 1970's matchbox was the leader in a big way.
In the 80's the next generation didn't go shopping and never bought tiny cars.
The powertrack had a fiercely loyal owners club but retail, we're from planet Mars.
When they sold a spare car, they never replaced it.
After a couple of months they had no stock to sell.
There was zero scalextric product for sale too.
      Toy retailers were just terrible.
      Low class scum.

I have that exact same set and the only thing I never got with mine is the catalogue. Yours looks barely used and in fantastic condition where as mine was refurbished. Such a shame it did not work straight out of the box as it looked so clean. I guess the power track part needs a new capacitor?

    • @BROOKSCOLLECTABLES
      @BROOKSCOLLECTABLES  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

We can’t figure it out, the power pack is putting out & work ing fine, normally of something that age it’s the first thing to go ! it’s the connection to the track that was the problem, I can’t figure out the connection ! There are no wiring diagrams, so I don’t know if it’s the controllers, the connections or what the issue is 😂😂 it’s in my head though now, so keep trying things, may be a revised ! Glad you enjoyed the video ! Thank you as always for your comments ! Stay safe ! M

@@BROOKSCOLLECTABLES I’m guessing you had the power track section tested whilst connected to the mains? Did you check the top of the track where the cars sit? If it all has power then more than likely the controllers but weird that they have both gone? You can buy new fuses and bulbs etc from this guy www.matchbox-powertrack.co.uk/ or even Ebay?

    • @BROOKSCOLLECTABLES
      @BROOKSCOLLECTABLES  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@electricwheels411 not at first 😂😂😂 ! But we tested everything that’s why I used the transformer in the end but it was still drawing more power to the longer outside track which I don’t understand, I’m convinced it’s those capacitors, I’ve actually been looking at the guy you mentioned for some parts, I know I’m missing something blinding obvious, but I will figure it out eventually 😂😂 ! I’ve been looking at a new piece of track with the power input, I’m convinced that’s the issue, and the connections on the controllers is ver loose too !
