I apologize if some of these are not the original 45 RPM records - I pulled most of them from my personal collection and some were downloaded from different places in 2002 - and yes some were taken from albums in my HATB files. I put together 2 hours and 20 minutes of beautiful music for you to enjoy? Just sit back and let the music take you away and do not get lost in where it came from so much please?

Herb, along with Jerry Moss co-founded A&M Records (Alpert & Moss) in 1962. Their headquarters and recording studio were located on North La Brea Ave (near Sunset Blvd) at what was formerly Charlie Chaplin's movie studio (now renamed Henson Studios, as in Jim Henson). It's the same facility that recorded "We Are the World" in 1985. A&M is now owned by Universal Music Group.

  • @MrTraderon

How's this for an ironic story. I started trumpet lessons in 1966 - partly inspired by Herb Alpert. I idolized the man, and tried to emulate his playing style while standing in front of the stereo with my own horn. Now fast forward to 1983. I'd been taking lessons with a New York brass legend named Carmine Caruso. He specialized in "chop" problems - i.e., brass players having issues with lips, sound production, etc. So who calls into Carmine's cramped little studio on W 46th Street, for a phone consultation during my lesson? That's right, Herb Alpert himself. Now if it had been anyone else, I would've been a bit upset -- as the phone lesson ate about 30 minutes into my time and Caruso didn't really seem bothered by it. But considering who the caller was, I just sat and marveled at the irony of it all :)

My mom was a fan and had the Whipped Cream album and a couple more. The Dating Game had a song from that album on it. I've always enjoyed the sound of brass and Herb Alpert with his band played some of the most fun and some of the most emotional sounds on some tracks. Great to see all these together and listen to them. Especially since I had to make room for my mother in law and can't quite reach all my albums just now. It was amazing to see your huge and strong bulls in full swing. more than once I saw bullfighters get hurt. For many years I was a fan of bullfighting... not today. Those were other times, my father died years later and the plaza is gone...there are only my memories. and the music of Herb Albert.

My father built a Heathkit stereo when, as a pilot, he had to serve as a Nuclear Missile combat crew commander during the Cuban Missile crisis. The project gave him something to look forward to after serving 24 hours in a deep missile silo. When the stereo system was complete we had many, many Sunday afternoons with Herb Alpert playing in our home. So proud of my father and the amazing and elegant brass music of the Herb and Lani duo. TJB the best! On Sunday mornings in the early 70s I attended 2 film shows in the movies in what they called MATINALES for half the price of the regular movies. The movies started at 9:30 am but I got there ar 9:00 to get a good seat. From 9:00 am through 9:30 there was music, always starting with THE LONELY BULL then A HARD DAY'S NIGHT and I can't remember the other tunes, but Herb was always my favorite. With just a trumpet he dominated the musical world for more than a decade. Incredible!

Oh be “TBRASS” young again. Celebrated with a breakfast burrito this morning made by my son. He wasn’t even born when “TBRASS” became a hit band.

It doesn't matter. It's been my favorite from the start. I was a trumpeter in the 60's and 70's and loved it all!

1983 - USFL football in Jacksonville, FL - more precisely, Jacksonville Bulls football - hearing the intro crowd from "The Lonely Bull" stirred awesome memories of every home game! Thanks for the upload!

Sweet memories. from the only artist to reach No. 1 as both a vocalist (This Guy's in Love with You) and an instrumentalist (Rise). "All art is a gift of the Holy Spirit. When this light shines through the mind of a musician, it manifests itself in beautiful harmonies." ~ Baha'i Faith

Herb wasn't much of a singer, but I've always loved, loved This Guy's in Love with You. The way he sang it seemed so sweet and kind of shy. Oh and sincere! Not surprised it reached #1. Thanks for the info.

Great compilation! Thanks for putting it together. Isn't it great that Herb Alpert is a class act and doesn't have these videos taken down?? Other than Third Man Theme that is.

Here is a VERY rough translation of eduardoleal's comment, with a stab at punctuation. "Talking about the Tijuana Brass is part of the instrumental history that was his first success. The Solitary Bull (the Lonely Bull) was a huge success in our country, Venezuela. His albums had extraordinary sales. I have his collection on acetate discs. There was no house or apartment in Caracas that did not have an LP of Herb Alpert."
