I just wanted to say a massive thank you to everyone who's watched this video and to those who have left such positive comments. It's so affirming to know that there's still a love for this beautiful car and that my attempts to put stuff online about it is appreciated. If Harry does happen to get in contact, I'll make sure I let you all know. 😁
Thank you. It’s clever. One note: 6:26 SAAB’s version of the Triumph engine first appeared in the 99. I had one in bright orange. And I banged my head on the bonnet whilst attempting to fix the leaking water pump. It was an engine out job in the end. Had a wonderful five door 900 turbo in the early ‘80s. Excellent car. Carried valuable artwork, and delivered boxes of printed brochures all over London and the south east. By the way, there’s a way to make the 900 bonnet tilt a bit further forwards. Thank you for sharing.
I have owned two of these, an 89 coupe and a 88 hatch. The coupe was almost new and was a fantastic drive stiffer than the hatch, however the hatch was almost as good and was far more practical. They were both in the same colour as yours too, I will always remember the comfort of the seats, the build quality and the switchgear, but most of all how they went! The reason I bought the first was that I was following one in my XR3i back in 87 and it took off and I couldn't touch it! Great cars still supported by a fan base unknown today amongst modern vehicles. Wished I still had the coupe, at least I had the experience and my 2007 first gen CLS320 CDI gives me approximately the same driving experience!
Excellent Harry parody but you need that subtle little hop Harry does when he gets into the car! I had a 900 Turbo years ago and was one of my favorite cars ever.
Classic! Nicely done! Harry will love it...somebody might send him a link! Thanks for sharing! Cheers! I had one way back when...once bitten, forever smitten! You're spot on when you said, "...it's a driver's car!" I miss it to this day! Ah well...
I've seen most of Harrys videos, are from Sweden, and have friends with 900 T16 (Aero as they can be called here in Sweden) I salute you sir to a fantastic video, very well done and splendid narration, I know how hard it is !
Ahh, thank you. I have so much admiration for presenters who can talk so naturally. I had to do this many times before I was happy enough with it. Thanks for watching. 🙌
Hi , yes it did, more of a burnt red color if I remember, sold for around £1000, can only imagine what is worth now,...I remember someone mentioned that there were 200 of this model in red and 200 in black although I'm not sure if that's true...
Very well done, I have one of these 85 T16s in silver with the Colorado red interior, a real rollercoaster to drive and a pleasure to listen to, you don’t need a stereo.
Yes, I agree. I also love the red interior versions. There’s going to be a silver on red at the NEC show in November this year. Come along if you’re UK based.
Excellent fun! My dad had a 99 Turbo. It was awesome. When the turbo kicked in it charged like crazy. The steering didn’t self-centre properly though. Wish I could get one today
Paul, what a natural at presenting and a terrific overview of the iconic Saab 900! Morty looks amazing and did you proud in the video! One of the features of the 900 I love is the swoosh and click of the ventilation distribution dial - the hiss of the vacuum control is great! Keep the videos coming and hope to see you at another Saab gathering soon 👍🏼
You just reminded me that I filmed the vent noise. I must have lost it somewhere. Damn, what an omission as you’re dead right. Thanks for your comment. 👍
Harry's Garage is my favourite car channel for years. And although people say to never copy the original you just did a fantastic job with that! And added some sheer Saab passion to it. Two things Harry would have mentioned for sure: the best exhaust sound (burble) ever for a four cilinder car in automotive history. And the performance of the 16v turbo engine with intercooler and apc system. Which was 40 years ago a knock out (due to apc ;-)) for other brands with cars with more cilinders and prestige. But those are minor things in beautifully done Saab review. Next time a 9000 CC 2.3T?
I enjoyed my Saab 900 Turbo a lot whilst I had it. Before some joy-riders nicked it. Supremely comfortable seats and the most ergonomic dashboard and layout of any car ever made. I used to get about 28mpg from mine.
Brilliant rendition - I really enjoyed the little phrases you'd use here and there which I hadn't realised I specifically associated with Harry's speach until now; phrases you picked up on. You should consider a career in that branch of acting in which actor spends a month or so with the type of person they're looking to portray in an upcoming film... A ride along with the mafia or the NYPD coming up next, ahead of the big screen! I would not be suprised at all now if Harry gets in touch with you to cover the car and gives this video a shoutout in the process, leading to immense popularity among his viewers for this video.
I absolutely loved this. I wanted to do the same type of video with my E12 for a while now (my channel name was inspired from Harry's garage) but lack of time and resources have prevented me doing so. Well done and done to the tee. Subscribed!
Thank you. I’ve just seen your E12 on your channel. What a lovely car and you’ve done so much to bring it back to life. Hats off to you. If you’re coming to the NEC show in November, stop by the Saab stand and say hello 👋
@@kemosaabe thank you very much. Not sure if I can make to the NEC this year, but if I do I'll definitely pop in. I love your car and a friend has a J reg 900 Turbo also in black he recently restored. Fabulous cars!
Quel enthousiasme, on ressent bien votre passion pour Saab. Je recherche activement une 900 Turbo, un modèle comme le votre mais avec le volant à gauche... je suis français 😁
Excellent work! Great subject and Great Parody of the Wonderful Harry M. I bet you now know exactly how much work goes into producing his channel. Best Regards!
My Dad sold these back in the day and I have many happy memories of daily drives and summer holidays in them. A cavernous boot. Once the battery died driving up and Alpine pass releasing a strong smell of sulphur. Otherwise a bulletproof car .
What a great memory to have. I longed for my Dad to have one but he wanted a Lancia Beta instead. Not a bad choice either, but at the time I couldn't understand why he didn't want a Saab. 🚗💨
Very good! Love the proper 900Ts, was tempted by a flat-front 16S a few years ago, was cheap but every panel was rotten :( Still tempted to have one eventually, the book looks fab. PS did you weigh the SAAB on your scales? :)
I had one of the eight valve with the water injection kit fitted , in black . I really loved that car . I’d love another. Such a icon and very different
Morty?? Lol you have a great sense of humor. No disrespect to morty i owned a saab years ago and found myself finding places to deive to juat to be in the car, the smell of the leather, sound of the turbo, you could set it on cruise at 155 mph what a car.
Very cool video. Great tribute to the 900 SPG and Harry of course. I hope for you that he will see this video. That would be great. As a gentleman I'm sure he fancy Saab
Oh boy... you made my night LOL. I'm on SAAB #14, a LR Viggen 5dr. Ten of them were C900 mostly Turbo, including SPG. Thanks for this. I'll have another C900 one day! I'd almost trade my Viggen for one but that's just stupid. Wait until I can have both. My garage queen is '88 535is.
Thank you soo much for this great rememberings to my car ! - I "co-financed"..... the very first Years of the "Turbo"-Generation.... Ragards from Austria !
I drove Saabs for 30 years but missed out on owning a T16S although I did own a 1984 3 door 8 valve turbo for almost 10 years. BTW, the T16S has always been a 900 Aero to me even if Saab didn't the rights to use that name at the time.
Super looking car! Had a lovely red T16 a couple of years back. Tore up a cylinder as a result of the original plastic APC solenoid no longer working and the substitute valve being set too high by a dubious Saab expert. Cost me a fortune! Experience has taught that there are very, very few mechanics who understand these cars.
I had a similar experience with my clutch. I’m trying to learn how to do things myself, but it’s not a skill that comes naturally to me. Thanks for watching.
So happy to see a video of the T16S, must be about my favourite car ever. I did work at the SAAB dealer in Aberdeen for 4.5 years ('90-'95) and regularly drove "classic" (they weren't at the time!) 900's of all variations from the single carb model to the most powerful (in the UK anyway) Carlsson and Ruby with 185bhp. Also owned two 99's and two 900's and loved them all. IMO, the nicest all rounders to drive were the LPT (145bhp) models which had plenty of torque, very little lag and were plenty quick enough for most. But in terms of style, i prefer the early flat front cars like the one in the video. At the SAAB dealer we did have in stock for a while a flat front 4 door turbo 16 in two tone slate blue over silver with Minilite wheels and tan leather interior. I would have dearly loved to own it, but it was too expensive for me!. When I started at the dealer they had a T16S demonstrator (this was the facelifted model) in black with 16" cross spoke alloys, which was a fabulous looking thing. I've never been much of a fan of personalised number plates, but that car had what remains my all time favourite number plate/car combinations: FLY900T👍 Couple of points though, first is regarding turbo lag. The car in the video is an early T16, later cars ('89 I think, but not sure) had a smaller turbo with less lag and the same power. Also, I think you will find there is height adjustment for the (drivers) seat on all 900's, though it is quite a rudimentary system with just one height "level". The lever (if memory serves) is at the front of the seat low down, lift it with no weight on the seat and the whole seat rises (quite abruptly!), lift it with weight on the front of the seat will lift the rear of the seat only, and lifting it with weight on the rear of the seat will lift the front only. I can also honestly say that I don't recall experiencing any problems with either the wipers on a classic 900 (and that includes driving them in VERY heavy rain) or the quality/volume of sound from the speakers (though I am by no means an audiophile)🤔
Thanks for sharing your experiences with Saabs. You certainly have more than me. To be honest, I’m fine with the Turbo lag, it’s part of the car and you build it into how you drive. Yes, mine does have the seat height adjuster too. I haven’t needed to use it as it was comfy right away - no adjustment needed. Modern cars have way too much choice for adjusting seats. If you’re coming along to the NEC in November, stop by and say hello. 👋
Had 3 Saab's loved them all my 1st before i owned it belonged to my mum who bought it at about 15/16 months old . That was a 95 m reg 900Turbo se Convertible. I ended up with it about 4 years old after that followed a 55 plate 9-3 2.0Turbo vector convertible & my final been an 09 9-3 1.9CTDI Vector Sportwagon which i still have. If they were still in production id still buy them. To finally get them out of my system id love a Caddy BLS 2.0T or 2.8 V6.
Usually in a SAAB, the turbo was a bit moody. It was about: Nothing, nothing, nothing and then without warning EVERYTHING. You had to learn where it started working. Could be a little hard with wheelspin in the middle of an overtaking.... But they were fun to drive.
I had a 1989 900 Turbo. The gearing was too long, keeping it in boost wasn't easy, I hated the gearbox, and it was hard to find parts for. But for some reason I still miss it (especially the exhaust note)
A few people have posted him on his Instagram channel, but I'm not sure he's seen them. Maybe when he gets back from driving his gorgeous Lambo in Europe, he'll have time to spot my video. FIngers crossed 🤞
Dam another , when you drop the back seat lift the bottom seat via the pull cord, slide the head rest out and store them in there holders. then lock the back into the base/squab it'll lay flat, good vid just pointing out incase others don't know
@@kemosaabe Nar all good but the base does lift forward and the seat back locks in alot of people dont know, just want them to be aware that's how you sleep . The head rest holding brackets are a feature to keep them out of the way, thanks again for a great vid
Some niggles: transmission issues requiring a new one before 65,000 on the clock, the position of the key between the seats much appreciated but it broke off requiring using needle nose pliers, gear linkage clunky, to name a few. I owned two from new.
Interesting, shame there is a dig at the models that followed, but an interesting review of the T16v S. Harry will be there at the NEC, which might be that fly on the wall moment.
@@kemosaabeoh and great video by the way. I too owned a 1990 black T16S (with tan leather and 16” Carlsson wheels) for five years in the early noughties. Loved it.
The key ignition down by the gear selector which i was told by a Saab salesman.was to prevent theft as the only way they could be driven would be in reverse.
Sir, A beautifully put together, well researched and informative programme. More parallel than parody. Please take that as a compliment, as whilst you have clearly followed Mr Metcalf's format for comedy effect, the words and sentiments are your own, and well judged they are too. And what better subject matter than the marvellous SAAB 900 Turbo 16 Valve? Felis domesticus is obviously a chap with good taste, and was eyeing up the back bench for a nap! More videos would be received with warm welcome. Kind regards.
This is such a niche parody, but it's so fantastic

But in terms of style, i prefer the early flat front cars like the one in the video. At the SAAB dealer we did have in stock for a while a flat front 4 door turbo 16 in two tone slate blue over silver with Minilite wheels and tan leather interior. I would have dearly loved to own it, but it was too expensive for me!. When I started at the dealer they had a T16S demonstrator (this was the facelifted model) in black with 16" cross spoke alloys, which was a fabulous looking thing. I've never been much of a fan of personalised number plates, but that car had what remains my all time favourite number plate/car combinations: FLY900T👍
Couple of points though, first is regarding turbo lag.
This is effing brilliant! Nice one!
Thank you! 👍
You’re dead on! I’ve gotten used to it more now and can time when it will kick in. I love the wheeeeeeee noise of the turbo. 🚙💨
@@kemosaabe Cool. Have a nice weekend.
Brilliant! I'm sure Harry would approve.
I hope so. He lives up the road from me, so maybe we’ll bump into each other one day. 👍
Brilliant respectful parody!
Thank you. 🙌
Ive had 5 of these, favourite being the light point turbo, sadly no longer in my price range but well deserved classic status now.
Whoa, five! Morty is my second 900 to date. My first was a white 900i 👍
Chapeau sir! Excellent :D
Thank you 🙌
I had a 1989 900 Turbo. The gearing was too long, keeping it in boost wasn't easy, I hated the gearbox, and it was hard to find parts for. But for some reason I still miss it (especially the exhaust note)
I know what you mean about the long gears. It’s still such a fun drive though. 👍
Excellent video in its own right and a brilliant HG parody… I do hope Harry has a sense of humour 😂
Thanks. I’m sure he does. I just hope his solicitors do too 😂
@@kemosaabe 😂
Oh man. I really need to get my 1990 t16 back on the road again
Yes. We need to see more back on the roads. 🚗💨
you speak exactly like him😄 the inhales, brochures and everything
Ha ha. Thanks. I tried not to attempt an impersonation but I think Harry’s intonation has sunk in after watching so many of his vids. 😂
How do we get Harry to see this!?
A few people have posted him on his Instagram channel, but I'm not sure he's seen them. Maybe when he gets back from driving his gorgeous Lambo in Europe, he'll have time to spot my video. FIngers crossed 🤞
Dam another , when you drop the back seat lift the bottom seat via the pull cord, slide the head rest out and store them in there holders. then lock the back into the base/squab it'll lay flat, good vid just pointing out incase others don't know
Thanks Peter. I was being lazy when filming and didn't pull out the headrests. 😆
@@kemosaabe Nar all good but the base does lift forward and the seat back locks in alot of people dont know, just want them to be aware that's how you sleep . The head rest holding brackets are a feature to keep them out of the way, thanks again for a great vid
Brilliant!
Thank you. 🙌
Some niggles: transmission issues requiring a new one before 65,000 on the clock, the position of the key between the seats much appreciated but it broke off requiring using needle nose pliers, gear linkage clunky, to name a few. I owned two from new.
Harry?
I used to have that exact same car. Abz loved it!
Interesting, shame there is a dig at the models that followed, but an interesting review of the T16v S.
Harry will be there at the NEC, which might be that fly on the wall moment.
Thank you. Sorry about the dig. I’ve never actually owned a later model, so what do I know. 🤗
Such a lovely motor. Small detail..straighten that turbo text in the grill😉
I know! I didn’t notice until I’d filmed a lot. Well spotted! 😂
Beautiful car too, of course ❤
Outstanding.
Cheers 🍻
Great review !
Thanks for watching. 🙌
Great video…and I’m sure you know that Harry owned a black T16S back in the day.
Thanks. I didn’t know that until I made this video. 🙌
@@kemosaabe if you google Harry’s garage Saab and click on images, there’ll be a picture of it that he posted on Twitter
@@kemosaabeoh and great video by the way. I too owned a 1990 black T16S (with tan leather and 16” Carlsson wheels) for five years in the early noughties. Loved it.
We need Harry to pass comment and have you on the show
It would be awesome to know that he's seen it. I'd love Morty to be on his show but not me so much 😆
Brilliant
The key ignition down by the gear selector which i was told by a Saab salesman.was to prevent theft as the only way they could be driven would be in reverse.
I heard that too. Thanks for watching the video. 🙌
You just needed a small pillow up your jumper 😂
😂
even with the smartwatch on the right and the mechanical watch on the left!!!! details
Well spotted 🕵️♂️
You even match Harry's two pairs of watches, little pleasant detail
Kudos for spotting that. I had to borrow my girlfriend’s Apple Watch. 😂
Love it! Has the man himself seen it…?
Thanks. I don’t think so. I’d love to know what he thinks though. 😬
@@kemosaabe I think he’d be flattered!
This is brilliant!
Cheers. I really appreciate your comment. 👍
Sir,
A beautifully put together, well researched and informative programme.
Thank you so much. I’m so glad you like the video, the car, and Mr Dennis who loves nothing more than a nap in the boot. 😹
BRILLIANT!
Thanks so much 🙌
I don't remember my 85 four door 900 turbo being loud like I hear in these videos must've been the insulation huh?
