Nice report! Very impressive takeoff roll there. My city guess for 11:55 is Vienna :) As for Lufthansa, personally I haven't found it any better or worse than other European airlines for long haul economy. I find Swiss to have very hard seats, Iberia to have little leg room, and other planes to feel old. Unfortunately in Europe I think that's the way economy service is going for all carriers long haul. I'm trying EVA next week, so looking forward to that :)
Frequent flyer of LH here, I have noticed a significant decrease in service post-pandemic, pre-pandemic I could get free alcohol on a short haul flight in Europe in Economy Class, now I get a free chocolate on the same flight. I still fly LH as believe it or not, their flights are often much cheaper than BA or AF-KLM and yes even Ryanair, so if I can get a cheap deal with them, I will take them.
This is something similar to what I had heard as well but wanted to keep an open mind because who knows what can happen. I was pretty surprised though to see what it was like.
I had the same experience 10 years ago on a Lufthansa 747. It was unbelievably cramped with nothing memorable except for the plane itself. That being said, I still can't believe they don't have some generous snacking option for people with food allergies. Most people would rather take scoot or I saw a great review the other day of zip airline, which seems like they have mastered the low-cost option. I also agree though that it is still one beautiful bird!
I see this beautiful aircraft pass overhead hear in LAX almost daily, in fact it is the 747-8 from Germany to LAX. I've always wanted to fly on it just to check off that bucket-list "fly on a 747." (There's also a Korean Air 747-8 that arrives daily to LAX). When I make that trip I hope my experience is better.

In my opinion, you should not decide to avoid a major airline based on just one review. Check out some other recent Lufthansa 747 trip reports. There are some other negative takes, but there are certainly some positive out there too.

I recently flew Lufthansa. My 747-8 flight was about on par with this one. I actually was in the exact same seat. By contrast however my A340-300 flight on a different leg with them was a delight
Okay so about a month ago I did the same trip is you, but via BKK and back via HKG. Thai to BKK was pretty good, easily on a par with sing air. Lufthansa on the 777 to MUC was pretty much the same experience you had. On the way back to HKG, on a A340, the cabin was old again, but the staff were excellent. The one I was warned against, Cathay, has knocked everyone out of the park - what an excellent economy product.
Thanks a lot for this review - I"m German guy living in Japanand using LH for my last Hometrip with my family - flying also with the 747 to Germany and back with the A350. We made exactly the same experience and all things pointed out are absolutely true. The service is ridiculous for the money they charge and not even a kids menu for my 4 year old daughter was easy available ( you have to order 72h before flight, but this information was not shared). As a German feel shame for this....

About that A330 safety card; did you alert one of the flight attendants or just want to poke holes in Lufthansa's service on a TH-cam video? They could get in a lot of trouble for this.
We flew on Lufthansa business class on an A380 Changhi to Frankfurt, and it was the worst flight with the rudest staff, poorest food and overall worst overall value that we've ever had. Never again!

Lufthansa is launching its Allegris cabins early next year on the A350 & 787. By 2025 it should be on the 747-8 and the 777X will hopefully be in service so I'm expecting some pretty big changes at LH in the near future.

I flew the Korean air 747-8 back from Korea to LAX in January. Tried to get upper deck business class seats with Korean air miles but no award space. Korean air has the best 747-8 business class seats. My first and only time on the -8. I flew the 400's many times during my childhood. I flew Asiana Airlines 747 upper deck in business class in 1995 or 1996 when I was 5 or 6.

Flew with Lufthansa Bangkok to Frankfurt a while ago. Very cramped seating, awful food, extremely cold even with a wafer thin blanket, and very noisy. Happy to say that my return leg in a much older A340 was a much better all round experience even though the premium economy was directly in front of economy and definitely not worth the considerable extra cost.

I have already booked this flight in about a months time purely because I wanted to fly on Lufthansa and the 747-8 for the first time and I have been looking for a review for ages. One of my biggest concerns was the meal service, and unfortunately it doesn't look to have improved. A bit shocking that they refused to serve you and that they don't seem to have meal options.
It’s a shame LH!! Write an official complaint to LH pointing out your TH-cam channel and their disappointing B747/8 product, I complained once and was upgraded in Business class upper deck on my next flight, Good luck!
It's a shame but I'm not going to go to those lenghts haha, a flight can either be good or bad. I don't ever share my YT with the airlines I fly, I just fly them for fun. I've had my fair share of cancellations with other airlines and complained and merely get told it's my fault or waited over a year for a refund.

Wow, I think you got it. General route of plane is SE --> NW. City is roundish with ring road in the NW sector. And that tumor like mass sticking out to the east looks like the oil refinery. I was looking further west near in the Balkans because I assumed (didn't check FR24 for historical route) the route would avoid Iran adn Syria.
I much prefer the security at the gate like Changi. I think its one of the few airports I've travelled through that has its security at the gate. I find central security a real hassle, like 2F at CDG. I hate Lufthansa's business class 2-2-2 configuration. I think it was unconscionable that they did not serve you a meal on such a long flight. I've flown SIN/MUC on SQ on their A350. It was actually sold by LH and got a great fare. This when LH started the MUC/SIN route.
I guess the Allegris full cabin refreshes for 2024 and beyond, can’t come soon enough. I was a bit surprised at the meal situation. Aren’t you able to call ahead or indicate on your booking that you have food allergies and are able to be served a unique meal? Regardless of the state of Lufthansa, i don’t think avgeeks will care. In months to come, im sure they will pack into their quadjets for one last ride. I am personally hoping to fly on their A340-600 next year, so fingers crossed.
I'm a huge fan of the 747-8 but I must say that is disappointing for a carrier like Lufthansa, if that is how they treat people with allergies that is not the people I'd want serving me on a flight! Sorry you were disservice by the staff, I would highly try Aerlingus in Ireland, they were a great carrier on my flight to Dublin from Glasgow a few years ago! Keen to see the next flights
DJ, I'm sorry you had such a negative experience flying with Lufthansa. Sadly, I've heard the same sentiment from others who have flown Germany's flagship carrier. I believe expectations are too high for traveling in the 21st century. However, I think the Asian carriers do a far better job overall with their inflight offerings, so why not try Korean Air's 747-8 service, if possible?

Thanks for the review - I have not seen a good long haul Lufthansa flight review for a long time. Even their A380 was described as claustrophobic in economy class by some! I shall avoid this flight, especially if flying from Singapore. There are better alternatives from SIN...
Flew Lufthansa a couple of month ago with the A350 to Tokio. On the leg back to germany which was 13,5h because of the russian airspace closure, they only served one warm meal at the beginning of the flight. Later they served a sandwich wich was topped only with potatosalad, wtf potatosalad in a sandwich as a 2nd meal on a 13h+ flight.
I had a flight in Lufthansa Business Class on an A330 from Frankfurt to Saudi Arabia and the service was ok. But WI-FI was non existing, the IFE was ok, though. But it‘s the same with everything in Germany: technology 20 years old or older, poor service and slowly becoming less and less competitive on all fronts. They just seem to have missed the transition to the modern age - and have not even noticed it…!
LH has always been known for being a generation behind on their hard products. They have a largely captive German market so they have been able to get away with it.
I do not understand how Lufthansa has the market share that it has....Rude staff, mediocre food service, inoperational IFE controls and recline, slow and laggy IFE..... My best guess is that it is their competitive pricing on certain segments.
Sadly, Lufthansa always seems to disappoint nowadays. If they don't get on top of their inadequacies very, very soon they will find it almost impossible to recover to a point where they are a flag carrier of choice.
Agreed. Lufthansa truly has the potential to become one of the world's top 10 best airlines within reach, which I hope they do in the near future, should they be willing to make investment to improve. I do like the seat's elegant design with its logo, colours combination, unique refined tray table and cup holder as the author mentions, and adjustable IFE screen. The cabin environment, carpet, cleanliness, seat amenities are also seems good. Some potential improvements are what the author mentions: IFE & its technology , leg room, seat reclining functionality, ensuring all seat back pockets have the right contents (including headset) and feels brand new, and in-flight meal contents as well as its presentation can be more elegant with a touch of luxury or 'wow' factor which increases appetite and will indulge our sense of taste, even on a red eye flight. Some added thought which would be excellence include: (1) having a starry cabin ceiling using white LED lights arranged in an exquisite manner which can be observed on night flight, (2) having distinguished cabin smell which is unique to Lufthansa only, and (3) provide physical on-board menu booklet printed in a high-class, formal, elegant design looks. All in all, it is the comfort and luxury feels that transcend all of our five senses that will leave lasting impressions even after disembarking

i will never flight w Lufthansa again. was on the 747 couple weeks ago. also, they should use a lid to cover the extremely hot coffee they serve. horrible poor food as well
sad too see Lufthansa has still has not improved. the last time i flew with them, some 10 years ago, it was awful. crew was all but rude, food rather ordinary and the seat after 12 hours felt like sitting on concrete.
That's more my issue, I'm happy I tried them and wanted to fly the 747-8 but for the pricepoint and the overall quality it's actually pretty staggering.
I would love to try asian carriers, just hesitant with my severe peanut allergy as I've had issues even on Middle-eastern carriers before and mainline Singapore Airlines.
I felt a difference on Singapores a350-900 when doing CPH-SIN & SIN-BNE 9V-SMS & 9V-SHA has that difference one Is for international long haul & one Is for flights within asia... But I must say If what you say Is true then I got a better value, despite having to fork over 15000 DKK for my ticket. Had to buy seperate. My original flight BLL-MUC-SIN SIN-FRA-BLL that I bought with eurobonus points was cancelled for reasons of crew issues (6 months before departure), scrambled to get CPH-SIN for a decent price. Got my SQ ticket & I went crazy with excitement as I had a great 4 week holiday ahead. CPH-SIN SIN-BNE BNE-SYD-AYQ AYQ-SYD SYD-MEL MEL-HBA HBA-AKL AKL-ROT-AKL AKL-RAR-AKL AKL-SIN SIN-CPH Departing RAR (you basicly arent allowed to take photos of the aircraft once on the apron) was kinda nasty, knowing I had a 24h skipping and only 8 hours In AKL before doing Air NZ to SIN. In hindsight I am happy that I got tickets for SQ on my flights departing/leaving for CPH. The only reason I would fly with "Luftwaffe" (I am a bit too cynical about their economy seating yes) Is for a shot at 1A or 1K (If I could afford It).

@mrturtledk i flew them last summer from US to Europe. Disappointing does not describe their on board service. No meal choices, just pasta, a god knows what type of breakfast sandwich they gave us before landing, I still don't know what that thing was till this day. Pre ordered a kids meal, it was the same thing as the adults with a cookie 😅😅

Alcohol is a class 1 carcinogen. Best not to consume even modest amounts anyway.

I loved Scoot and my next review spoilers I also really really loved, I was just so surprised.

Someone screwed that up with preparing the aircraft from the hub. Put the wrong one's one which is a major safety regulation violation.
The 747-8 is such and overpowered aircraft . It flies close to Mach 1 and takes off at such a speed . Best airplane ever built tbh

The full A380 I flew out of Changi to Heathrow on needed half the runway this jet required...

they own Lufthansa Technic which is one of the best repair facilities in the world, so it's not as expensive for them as for other airlines

I much prefer the security at the gate like Changi. I think its one of the few airports I've travelled through that has its security at the gate. I find central security a real hassle, like 2F at CDG.
I hate Lufthansa's business class 2-2-2 configuration.
I think it was unconscionable that they did not serve you a meal on such a long flight. I've flown SIN/MUC on SQ on their A350. It was actually sold by LH and got a great fare. This when LH started the MUC/SIN route.

I guess the Allegris full cabin refreshes for 2024 and beyond, can’t come soon enough. I was a bit surprised at the meal situation. Aren’t you able to call ahead or indicate on your booking that you have food allergies and are able to be served a unique meal? Regardless of the state of Lufthansa, i don’t think avgeeks will care. In months to come, im sure they will pack into their quadjets for one last ride. I am personally hoping to fly on their A340-600 next year, so fingers crossed.

I'm a huge fan of the 747-8 but I must say that is disappointing for a carrier like Lufthansa, if that is how they treat people with allergies that is not the people I'd want serving me on a flight! Sorry you were disservice by the staff, I would highly try Aerlingus in Ireland, they were a great carrier on my flight to Dublin from Glasgow a few years ago! Keen to see the next flights
I'd love to fly Aer Lingus, but being Aussie they're pretty far from home haha!
DJ, I'm sorry you had such a negative experience flying with Lufthansa. Sadly, I've heard the same sentiment from others who have flown Germany's flagship carrier. I believe expectations are too high for traveling in the 21st century. However, I think the Asian carriers do a far better job overall with their inflight offerings, so why not try Korean Air's 747-8 service, if possible?
Also the safety card was wrong. It’s a safety concern for the passengers. Yes I agree it’s so disappointing. Thanks for the review. I will try to avoid Lufthansa for my next journey.
Thanks for the review - I have not seen a good long haul Lufthansa flight review for a long time. Even their A380 was described as claustrophobic in economy class by some! I shall avoid this flight, especially if flying from Singapore. There are better alternatives from SIN...

Flew Lufthansa a couple of month ago with the A350 to Tokio. On the leg back to germany which was 13,5h because of the russian airspace closure, they only served one warm meal at the beginning of the flight. Later they served a sandwich wich was topped only with potatosalad, wtf potatosalad in a sandwich as a 2nd meal on a 13h+ flight.
I had a flight in Lufthansa Business Class on an A330 from Frankfurt to Saudi Arabia and the service was ok. But WI-FI was non existing, the IFE was ok, though. But it‘s the same with everything in Germany: technology 20 years old or older, poor service and slowly becoming less and less competitive on all fronts. They just seem to have missed the transition to the modern age - and have not even noticed it…!
LH has always been known for being a generation behind on their hard products. They have a largely captive German market so they have been able to get away with it.
I really cannot stand touch screen it just doesnt feel natural to me a handset with physical buttons is much better i think!!

I do not understand how Lufthansa has the market share that it has....Rude staff, mediocre food service, inoperational IFE controls and recline, slow and laggy IFE.....
My best guess is that it is their competitive pricing on certain segments.
Sadly, Lufthansa always seems to disappoint nowadays. If they don't get on top of their inadequacies very, very soon they will find it almost impossible to recover to a point where they are a flag carrier of choice.

Flew LH 456 on 11 July…FRA to LAX. Had to sit in row 32E. 11 hours crammed in. Seatback entertainment inop. Was not fun whatsoever.
Agreed with the review, very disappointing, would not fly Lufthansa again .

Lufthansa truly has the potential to become one of the world's top 10 best airlines within reach, which I hope they do in the near future, should they be willing to make investment to improve. I do like the seat's elegant design with its logo, colours combination, unique refined tray table and cup holder as the author mentions, and adjustable IFE screen. The cabin environment, carpet, cleanliness, seat amenities are also seems good. Some potential improvements are what the author mentions: IFE & its technology , leg room, seat reclining functionality, ensuring all seat back pockets have the right contents (including headset) and feels brand new, and in-flight meal contents as well as its presentation can be more elegant with a touch of luxury or 'wow' factor which increases appetite and will indulge our sense of taste, even on a red eye flight.
Some added thought which would be excellence include: (1) having a starry cabin ceiling using white LED lights arranged in an exquisite manner which can be observed on night flight, (2) having distinguished cabin smell which is unique to Lufthansa only, and (3) provide physical on-board menu booklet printed in a high-class, formal, elegant design looks.
All in all, it is the comfort and luxury feels that transcend all of our five senses that will leave lasting impressions even after disembarking
I think they are investing 2 billion euros on refurbishing all of their cabins. Hopefully it would be faster than last time.

i will never flight w Lufthansa again. was on the 747 couple weeks ago. also, they should use a lid to cover the extremely hot coffee they serve. horrible poor food as well
You never been to a sanctioned airplane if so, you wouldn't have complained
sad too see Lufthansa has still has not improved. the last time i flew with them, some 10 years ago, it was awful. crew was all but rude, food rather ordinary and the seat after 12 hours felt like sitting on concrete.
Imagine paying first class money and the services are so mediocre.
That's more my issue, I'm happy I tried them and wanted to fly the 747-8 but for the pricepoint and the overall quality it's actually pretty staggering.

I would love to try asian carriers, just hesitant with my severe peanut allergy as I've had issues even on Middle-eastern carriers before and mainline Singapore Airlines.
I felt a difference on Singapores a350-900 when doing CPH-SIN & SIN-BNE
9V-SMS & 9V-SHA has that difference one Is for international long haul & one Is for flights within asia...
But I must say If what you say Is true then I got a better value, despite having to fork over 15000 DKK for my ticket. Had to buy seperate. My original flight BLL-MUC-SIN SIN-FRA-BLL that I bought with eurobonus points was cancelled for reasons of crew issues (6 months before departure), scrambled to get CPH-SIN for a decent price. Got my SQ ticket & I went crazy with excitement as I had a great 4 week holiday ahead.

Departing RAR (you basicly arent allowed to take photos of the aircraft once on the apron) was kinda nasty, knowing I had a 24h skipping and only 8 hours In AKL before doing Air NZ to SIN.
In hindsight I am happy that I got tickets for SQ on my flights departing/leaving for CPH.
The only reason I would fly with "Luftwaffe" (I am a bit too cynical about their economy seating yes) Is for a shot at 1A or 1K (If I could afford It).

@mrturtledk i flew them last summer from US to Europe. Disappointing does not describe their on board service. No meal choices, just pasta, a god knows what type of breakfast sandwich they gave us before landing, I still don't know what that thing was till this day. Pre ordered a kids meal, it was the same thing as the adults with a cookie 😅😅
