You make some of the best camera comparisons, but I wish you'd shoot high-res scenes with a lot of fine details, so we can actually tell the difference... Like a really far away sign with small text or portraits, those are great ways to see how big the difference is in terms of detail, but also a great way to compare artifacting!
Big texts or simple objects don't really give us much to go on... Cuz when it's just simple edges of big letters it's something the AI could easily make up for. So that's not really a scenario where you'd use high-res anyways...

In photography they cannot compete for sure as the Vivo sets new standards overall here, but when it comes to video, it is a different story. The Vivo has stabilization issues at 4K60, and at 4K30 it performs poorly in low light zoom performance at 5x and above, as footage becomes too noisy with soft details. Video shot on it's selfie camera is not the best either.

Compare your iris in the Vivo shot (how clean and "painted" it looks) to how it looks in the Xiaomi shot.
It's a 50mm shot so I think that it's done to compensate for the lack of detail in the Vivo's main sensor.

I have Vivo X200 Pro and I have taken many photos with it. One thing puzzles me. Why is the photo in high resolution mode (8000x6000px) so much worse than the JPG photo taken together with the SUPERRAW High Resolution file? The JPG that is created together with SUPERRAW has much more details. Will they fix this in an update? I hope so.

I think the 2x sensor crop issue is more due to the 2*2ocl tech in the LYT-818 rather than the sensor size. The LYT900 does not use 2*2ocl and it's been shown that basically all sensors with 2*2ocl tech don't work that well for 2x cropped zoom.

  • @deepak1987

Interesting comparison! I was waiting for this one.
The highlight control and sunny day backlight control needs to be improved a lot in Xiaomi.
It not only washes out the foreground, it also blows up the sky at the same time, like the bad in both areas.
Even night time highlight control needs improvement, in the Vivo I can read all the neon signs always.
I thought this has something to do with their Zeiss coating, but Pixel9P also has near perfect highlight control, so I believe the software can be improved a lot.
Also the 5x tele needs some more sharpening, looks a little too soft.
Hope in the 15 Ultra they provide global options for tweaking the stock camera with controls for brightness, sharpness and so forth, just like the Vivo has.
If there is a denoise slider too that would be really great. Then we can get an output much closer to a DSLR or GCAM.

Xiaomi's processing looks somewhat close to a Fujifilm X100 camera where as the Vivo looks more processed.
That said, I think that Vivo looks way less like a smartphone than Samsung, Apple, Oppo and Huawei does. It has characteristics of a real camera, but mixes that with aggressive HDR and AI sharpening.
I don't hate the Vivo output, as I like the style that it is going for. But if your target is "it has to look similar to a real camera", then the Xiaomi will be more your choice.

The Vivo seems more consistent regardless of mode, you always know what to expect. The Xiaomi is also consistent but not to Vivo levels. X100 Pro vs X200 Pro OR X100 Ultra vs X200 Pro : either of these comparisons should be enough to settle this debate. Imo the 1 inchers look more natural due to needing less light and processing but the X200 Pro takes "better" photos.
also Lmao the X200 Pro selfies are hilariously going back and forth between "ATROCIOUS" and "AMAZING".
My main issue with VIvo is the fact that they're neglecting the UW cam. I vastly prefer Oppo's UW cam processing yet I completely prefer Vivo's zooming processing. Oppo loses details, at night especially, due to their aggressive NR algorithm. But at least Oppo's images are STUNNING, unlike Samsung who sometimes have aggressive NR, have no detail yet still keep a lot of noise sometimes lmao
I just hope Vivo can up the selfie game with a wider selfie with autofocus, like the X100 Ultra, and better UW cam processing like the Find X8 Pro. The X100 Ultra's UW cam processing is also pretty mid so idk how to feel about that. Ig you have to always sacrifice something and overall i'd rather have the X200 pro over other phones. It just stings that even though we've advanced so far it still is pretty difficult for manufacturers to give granular controls over things like sharpness, imagine being able to tune the algorithm on a vivo to get a photo like xiaomi's leica authentic ones.

    • @akshaypisal5149

First of all, probably the best smartphone camera comparison video i've watched on TH-cam (and I watch a lot). Secondly the main reason I think the Vivo main lense is lacking is due to it being handicapped so that the x200 ultra shines in 2025, the x100 ultra main lens is even superior to the x200 pro, but ofc the telephoto/hybrid on the x200 pro is better.
