Because the smallest opening on a manufactured entrance reducer is 3/8" tall? -Those openings can and do get chewed up. -I find myself not using the manufactured mouse reducers much anymore. Instead, i cut up scrap 3/4×3/4 strips of wood and customize opening size. -although the smallest opening is only 3/8" tall, it is 1.5" wide. I prefer a perfect 3/8" hole. Much less room for smaller mice to utilize the extra 1.5" to squeeze through.
You don't need to waist money on mouse guards. Mice can not get through a 3/8 inch or smaller operating.
