This is awesome!! Thanks Ace!!! For anyone who is a novice like me, I wrote out his instructions: 1. Lock windows 2. Determine if draft is coming between window and fixture. If so, measure film to cover against outside of window on wall vs inside the fixture 3. Make sure film size will fit inside the window & where it will be sealed 4. Clean taping area with window cleaner 5. Picture frame double sided tape along window frame area to cover for entire border of the window 6. Remove double sided tape film 7. Line up plastic to window, sealing top corner, bottom corner so plastic stays in tact while finishing to cover the the entire window. If plastic sticks to tape in wrong areas, it can be removed as long as you didn’t press to seal it in that spot. 8. Make sure the plastic is taut but doesn’t have to be super tight as hair dryer will do that. Press down on plastic onto tape all around the window frame. 9. Hair dryer setting on low, warm, not hot. Start in one corner and have hair dryer 6”-8” from plastic. Dry window down one side & up to adhere plastic where it will be tight on window, until it’s clear. Be sure to press the double sided tape firmly before and after application and move the blow-dryer down as if your drawing a slant. 10. Cut off any remaining plastic around window.

You wouldn’t do this on a window you’re going to open, it’s for winter time to help cut down on heating costs from hot air escaping through older drafty windows
I applied a window film to all the windows in my house due to every window in my house getting super frosty. I did have one old-ish single-pane window on an exterior door shatter the day of applying a window film. Very odd since there was no warning of this happening. I also cannot find any information about this happeneing to anybody else. Is this something i should be worried about with my other windows? They are a lot newer with dual pane glass.
I have seen improperly installed windows do this when very cold. If the prefabricated window unit was forced into a hole in the wall that was not the correct size, it can cause it to be under severe tension. Even moderate pressure in the wrong place could cause this to happen. Same idea with drilling holes into metal after doing body work on a car. Relieves the tension in material, but you can't drill holes in the glass lol
@@AceHardware thanks!! That could be it. We ended up with a bit of a puddle under our couch along the patio door we sealed offf with film. But the seal may have broken and that explain our water issue!
Hi Nathan, When installed properly it will keep the cold air from seeping into your home if the window is drafty. You may also want to look at the caulk around the window to seal up any gaps or cracks.

Seems it would look nicer attached to the window's frame rather than the trim, BUT I expect the insulating value is MUCH more when attached to the trim, because that creates a large air gap between the window and the film. The plastic has virtually no insulating value itself, it's the air gap that does the insulating. But what happens when you want to remove it, e.g. in Summer? Then you're left with that adhesive all over your trim. For that reason I might want to put the adhesive on the outside edges of the trim rather than the face.
Once it's sealed up for the season, you will not want to open it until you are done using the window insulation. It can't be removed/replaced all season.
Hi Dave, The downside of plastic window films are that they work and you cannot open the window. The reason you install them is the old windows are drafty, you so get some circulation of air in the new sealed up area, just not into your home. Meaning that no mildew or mold should grow in between the window and plastic as some fresh air is flowing into that space. Hope this helps!

Hi Matthew, You are correct, once you apply the hair dryer your window is sealed for the season. If you wanted to open the window for fresh air the insulation material shrinks up/wrinkles making reapplication difficult and not the same result. You'd have to use new plastic. Hope this helps!

Does this film really insulate?
Is the tape stickie on both sides 1:56
Correct, one side is sticky and will stick to the window trim. The other side is sticky to attach to the window insulation film.
Thanks for watching!
Wont a simple cling film work as well?
The draft will only keep out of the room if you have a tight bond with the film and the window trim. The hair dryer may melt cling film.
Have you ever run into condensation on the inside of the film?
If condensation on the inside of the plastic it might not be sealed all the way. Hope this helps!

Use a razor blade to get the tape seperated
Can this be used at any temperature?
Yes! Window Insulation can be used year round. Keep in mind as moisture/humidity comes and goes throughout the tape may lose its stickiness.

How do you open the window if the film is on the window frame?
If you open the window, you will lose the film and suction. You'd have to reapply the kit if it still with bond to the window or use a new kit.
How you open the window ?
Once it's sealed up for the season, you will not want to open it until you are done using the window insulation. It can't be removed/replaced all season.

What if I don’t have a blow dryer?
The hair dryer business just tightens the plastic up. If it's taped without gaps, it'll do it's job of keeping the breezy air out anyway.
Why wouldn't you silicon the gap then apply the kit?
Because silicone is not really for keeping draft out. Only moisture.
