How to Connect the NINTENDO SWITCH to a VGA Computer Monitor or VGA TV

- Hi, this video shows you how to use the Nintendo Switch Console on an old VGA Monitor without any HDMI ports. This same setup will apply to old Televisions without HDMI ports but on the TV you will not need separate speakers as the TV will have speakers built in already (unlike my old monitor) but you may need a long 3.5mm stereo lead or a 3.5mm to twin phono (red and white RCA connectors) depending on the Audio Inputs on your TV.
The picture is perfectly acceptable as on my old monitor it is outputting 720P (HD Ready) but your monitor may well be capable of 1080P(Full HD). It will not be as good as using a HDMI cable on a Full HD TV because using VGA is an analog signal rather than the better digital signal but is definitely usable.

Vince, I love that you do this kind of unusual tech videos. I'm pretty sure that they help a lot of people. This was going to be my setup as I didn't had a TV when I purchased my switch but my old monitor did not display the image cause it couldn't handle the refresh rate that the switch outputs.

Vince you really are my mate . I got an old monitor borrowed from my brother and was hopeless when i found out that it doesn't support hdmi but then i watched your video and got some hope. Ordered the adapter and now i can watch youtube study videos on a much bigger screen . Props to you and your content. And i can even use my old speaker because turns out that the headphone jack i recieved with my adapter is compatible with my Bluetooth speaker .

I’m from Brazil, and I was having a lot of trouble connecting the console to the monitor because it needs a converter, which I already had, but it kept giving an error, and unfortunately, I couldn’t find any content specifically explaining how to resolve issues with the Nintendo Switch on VGA screens. What I didn’t know is that the Switch natively comes with the resolution set to automatic mode. I was only changing it on the computar screen, and it was giving an ‘out of range’ error. When I changed it on the console, it finally worked. I don’t have a computer capable of running games, so I’m very happy that It works. Thank you! ☺️

Does it work independently of which adapter you use or do you have to have a male-male one or can a VGA cable to a VGA female adapter with an HDMI male port directly into Switch work too ? I don't know if I'm being clear, but I have tried it and my monitor says 67.5kHz/60Hz and it doesn't work
This video is very helpful. I have an HP LV2011 with VGA and when I tried to connect my Nintendo Switch using an hdmi-vga adpater, it will say Input signal out of range. Then I saw this video and followed it. It works! 😊

If this works with my old TV Philips and my parents don't want a HDTV, Thanks you! This will save my life. I don't want to only play the Switch in portable mode. I want to play any new games that my mom bought me. So her can watch me playing a new Switch game. ;)

What do I do when it only shows a black screen with the "out of range"? I thought it's something with the resolution, but I cannot change it when I don't see anything at all. I already tried to hold the on/off button, bc that usually worked with the PS3 back in the day.

I have a VGA computer monitor with a DVI-D port as a second port. I got a DVI-D adapter so I could run HDMI through it, but when I switch video input it doesn't even display anything as if the Switch isn't sending a signal to the monitor.
hey vince, I tried doing this for my old 4:3 acer monitor using a vga to hdmi converter but all I’m getting is “input not supported”. do you think I need to adjust the resolution when plugging and plug in a pc or something?
