I was 13 years old sitting in my room watching music vids on the tv when I first heard this song and M.I.A. and now here we are 15 years later, and she's still my all time favorite artist!!! I literally make everyone I know listen to her albums, coz they usually only know the Paper Planes song. And what's funny is they ALWAYS tell me after listening to her other songs that they had no idea M.I.A. was POPPIN!!!! lol
This song was before it's time. Came out in 04? Video released in 05 I was maybe 14-15 in love! with this song. Constantly listening to it on MySpace and Yahoo music.. yea yahoo music... I say before it's time because this could have came out in 2013-15 and still be a really cool and or great song Agreed?
@@willisworn well yeah maybe i do need to tell them im black so ik different black genres n this isnt dancehall. This sounds like white people misinforming white people about black culture 💀😂😂
It is impossible to recover from the sheer brilliance of this song because the second the drums start, this song is relentless in flawless execution until the end. I usually have to listen to this multiple times in a row and each time, I get chills. I always said "Bamboo Banga" on Kala was the successor to this song as it goes for the same level of pure insanity that only MIA can deliver.
I fell in love with her since I was little when I saw this video on MTV in the morning when they would play music videos. Glad I saw her at Coachella 💛
How can anyone deny that fourteen years later, this still kicks ass? Three debuts all dropped within about a year of each other---Arctic Monkeys "Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not" --- Bloc Party's "Silent Alarm" --- and M.I.A's "Arular" and it was some of the greatest fucking music ever made, IMO.

Não. Ela sampleou a música da Deize Tigrona sem mudar nada na produção. As produções musicais das favelas do Rio de Janeiro sempre foram revolucionárias, a própria enxergou isso rs
The first song by her I stumbled on MTV back in my freshman high school year. It was that moderate hit people liked even if they didn’t get it, and it made me a fan of hers. As an adult now iv grown to appreciate all her work and am now a big fan of hers, slowly moving towards hardcore lol. This song was the first baile funk/Brazilian funk style to premier on MTV and serves as just 1 example of M.I.A. breaking cultural boundaries and uniting them...with style, attitude & a punk rebellious nature. She’s a real OG badass
I just laugh when people say people like Cardi B are talented. Watch her 15 minutes end while this song and most of MIA's others still hold up and will always be gold.
Sis, Cardi B IS talented. Not saying she's transcendent, but she makes thoroughly enjoyable Hip Hop bangers. Also, checking in during the damned year that is 2020, and Cardi's 15 minutes has been extended. I love MIA, but re-listening makes me realize how thin and grating the vocals are on this song.
BEAUTIFUL NESS SURROUNDS THIS UNBELIEVABLY AWESOME SONG AND THE ARTIST IM CHARGE OF GIVING IT TO ALL ITS FANS!!!! Bucky done fun is by far too 3 FAVORITE ARULAR SONGS ITS A SMASH HIT AND A VERY HOT BIDEO TO BACK IT UP! The world should be looking up to miatangi for all her music and success how does she do it? Maybe she’s superwoman in disguise and nobody knows it yet!brad in Vegas saying NEW YORK QUIET DOWN SHES TRYING TO MAKE A SOUND😍🥰🥂🏆💃🏽🥇😎
Real music...Real style of her own AND the beats she uses are crazy kewl!! .....Real expression thru song and dance.....A trully real artist. Voice of & for the people. Yessss
According to MIA the lyrics were a sort of reflection on tough old school hip hop lyrics. It's mostly attitude combined with an affectionate criticism of hip hop culture. Mind you, I'm interpreting what she said in an interview about the song I read somewhere. Other interpretations have been that the song is political, using sexual metaphores to reflect military/economic exploitation of third world countries and minority populations. I think I can go with both explanations.
Still one of the most amazing beats I’ve ever heard.
Batida brasileira
The famous brazilian funk
What a stupid song! Sounds awful

Agreed?
thats hot.
it's basically Jamaican dancehall, a style that had been around for years
@@willisworn no it's not this has nothing to do with dancehall 🤦♀️
@@mfield040491 tell that to Diplo and Switch

I dig everything, the style, the retro-simply amazing!
Nostalgia!
By the time its still awesome

For an old track this is way ahead of its time
This is a sample of the brazilian song *Deize Tigrona Injecão* released in 2004
Essa base é VoltMix que é uma vertente do Miame Bass junto com o "Tamborzão" brasileiro. O VoltMix foi a principal base para o Funk Carioca no início.
This is 100% Brazilian funk, this really made success in USA?
if this is brazilian you are from Venus or other planet :)
Helder Duarte the music genre, genious, is from Brazil
this is brazilian
John Popist M.I.A. is from Sri Lanka not Brazil
Paulius J. He's not talking about her, but the music genre (funk) - which is from Brazil.
