Very entertaining match!! Never heard of Kang Dongsoo but now he's definitely on my watchlist of best choppers out there! :)
I like Kang style: he is not using chopping like a traditional defender; he uses it to slow down the opponent's attack, so he can have better chances to attack
I don't like playing defenders, watching them crush others is another story tho.
I don't see how players like Hugo, Harimoto or Lin Yun-Ju have had a good record against choppers, they are extremely good at countering top Chinese players but choppers are 50/50
cuz its a completely different playstyle...
Harimoto's main strengths include a strong quick counter and a very fast attacking backhand, both are very effective against most of the aggressive top players and other loopers but near useless against choppers. Pretty much the whole Chinese team have powerful and consistent forehands that can handle the variation in spin and rhythm without issues
Nowadays Gionis, Ma Te and Ruwen are the only defenders you expect at a high level tournament. For 3 people it isn't worth to practice too much against choppers.
@@ajtatosmano2 Yeah only that the choppers in the chinese national team rarely get picked for international tournaments because there are so many loopers in china better than them, if Ma Te where sent to WTT more often he'd likely trash a lot of people outside his own national team, including many in the top 20, but he's generally just used as a sparring partner for the Chinese players to adjust to I think, especially in events like Olympic simulation and during training to prepare for other choppers and long pips. But I'm guessing he plays in plenty of super leagues
@@ajtatosmano2 Gionis is not high level anymore. Kang is getting in this spot now. But with the plastic or ABS balls its clear, that there wont be that much choppers anymore... sadly
He visto partidos de Hugo contra defensores y realmente le está costando ganarles , Kang es un defensor diferente , ataca bastante y lo hace bien , y ya está demostrado que defiende muy bien lejos de la mesa.

It's not the first time I have seen Hugo loses to a defender, I think he has a lot of room to improve against this playing style.

IMHO He did not apply a correct strategy against a modern defender. Patience is the key, something HC does not have at all. Maybe it could be better for hugo to continue with controlled topspin and pushing short, long and into the body, and a long topspin / no spin fast serve, with few variations, with no rush until defender makes the error. Only very high returns should be smashed. Next time he will improve, he is very talented and a real world class athlete.
the one who perfectly does this way you described against chopper is Ma Long.
