    As a old gal, Im slowly phasing out of physical work and gardening. I'm (concentrating on my work as a medical massage therapist and esthetician) I'm still doing garden and landscape consulting and design. I can't encourage enough, to prevent hassels and haggling, have a page sheet or brochure of your prices listed. it's professional and gives yourself a more legitimate image. Be sure to note fees can change due to demand and supply. I also include an asterisk ✳️(meaning prices are subjective to scope and sourcing) On invasive weeds, dumping, edging, weeding, soil amendments, soil analysis, hard water treatment, fertilizer, pesticides, weed prevention they are totally separate fees.

    I've had a landscaping business since 2010 and didn't find your channel until 2015. Thank you so much for all your help over the years. My biggest issue was always having the confidence to talk to customers and you're one of those genuinely honest people who talk about the small details that a lot of other people either overlook because they've forgotten what it was like for themselves in the beginning, or because they're too proud to admit their struggles.
    I haven't been nervous to give estimates in years now and it's mainly because of your channel.
    Keep it up Keith! You're a great guy.

    My cost is to make is $4.00 per yard
    I only use in my projects ( around 900 cby per month) I sell it for $85
    Explaining oversimplified but my numbers work👍
    Initial cost of operation $295,000.00
    900×12=10800 cby
    If bought it would cost $32 per yard
    10800x 32=$345,600.00

    I used to charge $70/yard for mulch. Based on what the cheap guy posted on Facebook. Last year I realized it wasn't worth my time and energy at that price. I raised it to $85 the customer didn't batt an eye. She checked with her regular mow guy he was charging $150 a yard. The next job went up to $95 a yard. Not an eye batt. Different tiers to it.
    Bulk jobs get blown at $70/yrd because we can scalp and spray most beds.
    Regular jobs are $85/yrd most are minimal prep or existing clients
    Rehabs are $115-150/yrd
    Stone is anywhere from $250-425 a ton
    Edging is hit or miss, .50 to redefine, 1.15 new cut, 3.75 concrete curb or other materials.
    Light ropes are 8.50 and some kind of edging is recommended.
    Sometimes I’ll throw a redefine in for free on the regular customers. Just my pricing, maybe it can help someone else ballpark.

    What's everyone's materials costs for mulch and your location? I'm in Alberta and mine range from $25 - $65 / yard and up depending on supplier and type and some companies charge upwards of $400 / yard installed but that includes any bed maintenance and prep.

      In Oakville Ontario, near Toronto. Minimum charge of $185.00 per yard plus tax. Cost of mulch is approximately $50.00 plus tax delivered to my yard into storage bins.
      This saves us from having to run to the supplier and we can load before we leave. Cost is basically the same from supplier or having it delivered to my yard.
      Minimum charge of 4 yards per property at that price.
      Pricing does not include bed preparation. Just installation.

Its a 500,000 home in ohio so its pretty large, the yard is large aswell with alot of areas to mulch. I have to go get the measurements and come up with a price and I was curious of how I should go about it. Should I charge by the cubic yard and if so how much is it for labor per cubic yard? Should I charge by the hour if so how much, what if I get it done quicker than expected and I screw myself? Any info back would would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

    I just make my own and get paid extra to edge and define the border then put it down. Don't mound it up around plant stems.

    Does 120 a yard include the purchase of the mulch ? I'm getting ready to do a 6 yard mulch job and charged 120 a yard, but they supplied the mulch. Next week I have a 12 yard mulch job and I got 120 a yard but I'm not sure if I roll in the price of mulch into that total or charge separately for purchase of mulch .

    What would you recommend for install only? I see you pulled up with a dump trailer so I’m assuming $120= Labor+Mulch+DeliveryrMark^?
    What if a customer had the mulch pre delivered per say?

  • @markraffo6794

    My issue is with small jobs. Example 2 yards @120 per yd. I need a $200 labor minimum per job. That 2 yard job only comes to $160 in labor. A yard here costs about $40. I feel that any job you do costs you a quarter of the day no matter how small.
    How do I get to my minimum if using per yard estimating??
    Maybe I have my numbers wrong idk.

      Do I up the price per yard, refuse those or eat my minimum?

  • @joshualawson6621
    @joshualawson6621 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Sorry but I’m still unsure. Do you buy the mulch or charge the customer for what the mulch cost also? Mulch ain’t free lol. Is that 100 a yard for you to just pick it up and install or they buying the mulch and your charging 100/yard to pick it up and install? If your buying the mulch your deducting the price per yard from your 100 yard price.

    • @keith-kalfas
      @keith-kalfas  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The customer pays 100 per yard installed. They pay 100 per yard and the mulch appears in their garden beds
