ANOTHER criminally underrated part of Partners in Time is how you can find Fawful working in the background and planning his return for the third game. And it's totally optional, you can completely miss this but it's such a cool little reward if you find him.
It made the beans a very vital part to getting the best gear and incentivize exploration a lot more

I think Dream Team is also criminally underrated..the beginning is a bit slow but once you get past the intro it's great to the end
I do agree with the pacing issues of Mario and Luigi Dream Team and the game was just generally too long. But I still stand by that game for having as much heart put into it as the first 3, almost as if it was the final love letter to the series. It brought back Bean Bean Kingdom and Hoo Hoo Races from Superstar Saga, Kylie Koopa from PiT, Starlow and Broque Monsuer from BIS, and introduced several new races in the form of the Pi'ilo people and Shell Tops. They had new main characters from the new races, like Dreambert and the Zeekeeper, but they also had new characters from returning races, like the Massif Bros and Boss Brickle. And the a significant portion of the enemies were still unique and not at all generic Mario enemies. Critiquing the game for the art style, the long battles, and hand holdy tutorials are all valid complaints, but to me there is no question that they still put their heart into this game. They still wanted to make a game with charm and personality, and one that expanded on the Mario universe. And then Paper Jam happened. They took all the personality, uniqueness and heart and threw it in the trash can.
Anyway, very good video. Definitely enjoyed it! I also have a soft spot for Partners in Time as my first in the series.
I want to like to dream team with all my heart but simply it’s not for me, I do agree that it has much more personality than the later games though

@@ThatGuyWhoGames As much as I hate to say it, there are way too many people (possibly bots) that use the "nostalgia-blind" card to talk shit about the M&L games (and just Mario RPG games from the 2000s in general for that matter) to justify the corporate (Alpha Dream did make this. But then again, so did Nintendo, and while they amazed us a lot of the time, when they're bad, they can either be insanely frustrating or just too mid for its own good), creatively bankrupt (remember when they used to make Stuffwell only appear in Partners in Time and the jerk Starlow appear in not one, not two, not even three, but FIVE games?!?!?!?! Good times, good times.), three-dimensional (graphically, but two-dimensional in practice because what makes the writing, chip-tuned soundtracks 2D graphics work in the original trilogy would have to be the spritework, humor, nostalgia, catchiness, expressiveness, colours, backgrounds and variety of character designs) direction of the Mario RPGs of the 2010s of the last three (despite its slow start and us being able to see where you're coming from, I've grown to appreciate it more over time. A mixed bag and definitely the weakest game in the series between 2012 and 2015, sure. But like you said, the flaws in the first three games are nitpicks compared to everything they do right).
Yeah, Alphadream threw a lot of great potential into the trash can for paper jam, but most likely not on their own volition. If Paper Mario and their executives looking to corporatize and purge all story and character collaborated with another spin-off series known for their creativity in character and story, you can be rest assured there was a conflict of interest. They corrupted Paper Jam, and set Alpha on a downward spiral.
PLEASE hire a bunch of ex AlphaDream programmers and revive this series Nintendo I’m BEGGING you

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who loves Partners in Time the most out of the series, lol. It was the game that really got me into games as a whole, so it's probably because of nostalgia, but I've always thought that game was criminally underrated compared to the others. The tone and story especially were some big standouts as to why I love it so much. I loved this series to death growing up and playing each of the games (up until Paper Jam, lol), so it's a shame Alpha Dream and these games aren't around anymore. Regardless, really great video talking about the series!!
It’s a shame that this series went out with such a fizzle, it was truly something special. Maybe one day it can come back in some form, but without AlphaDream it’s hard to imagine how that would turn out. I can remain hopeful, though!

I’ve been replaying partners in time and it’s so good! The bros attacks are fun and star hill/star shrine is one of my favorite areas in any mario game since it looks so amazing and the music’s great too
Mario and Luigi going on adventures together was the main reason I liked this series better than Paper Mario.
I really hope this series can come back one day.

tbh the Bowser's Inside Story remake didn't even need to exist.
It's the first "modern Mario & Luigi" (and I call them modern since it's formula was pretty much copied to the later games) and Partners in Time was the one which needed a remake, if they remade PiT, things could be different.
But I mean, if the PiT remake was still as terrible as the BiS remake, I guess it wouldn't make much of a difference
I think it would’ve been better if it was a PiT remake since people were nostalgic for that game and were expecting it to be next if anything

The Mario and luigi series It's what I always heard About but never played. Every so often I'll have interest in superstar saga but have yet to try it out. Basically my main problem is getting into RP g's, when I do like the art style and I can tell it's brimming with character just from the gameplay and screenshots. Maybe one day
Superstar Saga on the GBA can be beaten in a weekend I highly recommend it

Okay, that's just completely false. And pretty much every mainline game before the New series took place somewhere new.
Super Mario Bros 1 (1985) - Mushroom Kingdom
Super Mario Bros 2 (1988) - Subcon
Super Mario Bros 3 (1988) - 7 different kingdoms, each with their own king, and clearly not the Mushroom Kingdom
Super Mario World (1990) - Dinosaur Land
Super Mario RPG (1996) - even in this spinoff, technically the name "Mushroom Kingdom" only refers to one town, and not to the game's own world
Super Mario 64 (1996) - yeah, Peach's Castle is obviously in the! ushroom Kingdom, but the world's inside paintings are their own worlds
Super Mario Sunshine (2002) - Isle Delfino
That's not even counting the other spinoffs that probably took place in other places.

To this day i still don't understand the problem with the artstyle of the 3ds entries, those games still have incredible animation that still shows the expressions very well, sure it's different from the rest but it's still a great artstyle imo. I disagree completely with your takes on dream team, of course, you're allowed to not like the game, i just don't agree with a lot of things you said about it. To me, dream team expands and perfects the formula of bowser's inside story, it definitely does have issues with the beginning and the pacing of certain things, but it doesn't really take away the fun of the rest of the game for me. The dream worlds are to me, better versions of the bowser areas, you aren't forced there for 70% of the game like in bowser's inside story and they are mostly shorter. The dreamy powers also don't really feel that underused, but maybe they are, in the optional dream worlds, idk i didn't try all of em. I do completely agree with paper jam being a complete letdown, this is really the start of alphadream's creative bankruptcy and to this day i still haven't beat the game without skipping 90% of it with massive gamebreaking glitches, most of the game is just paper toad quests and it's just not that fun ahaha. Going back on the artstyle talk, i think the remakes both improved on it a lot, the worlds look a lot better and the animations still have that expressive feeling. It's sad that bowser's inside story remake had to be made though, obviously because they were backed into a corner by their financial situation, partners in time would have a better reception as a remake because unlike bowser's inside story, it's criminally underrated, it really deserved a second chance as a remake.
Anyway, this series really deserves a new entry on a newer system, though i really can't see that happening because the fact that the bowser's inside story remake is literally the worst selling mario game since the virtual boy days, there is a low chance nintendo wants to gamble on another entry ahaha.
It can be a me thing, I do see dream treat as a great game objectively but subjectively it wasn’t what I personally want out of the series and that’s okay!
