    It's been super fun watching your reactions to the decants I sent! I thought you would like Sundowner(Tauer) for sure but I'm thrilled you've enjoyed El Maroc Pour Elle, Nefs, and L'Eau d'Hiver as well, they are some of my favorites. Lately I've fallen down the rabbit hole of the Les Indémodables discovery set and my god they are gorgeous, wearing Escale en Indonesie today and I fear I must have a full bottle ASAP.

      Les Indemodables are beautiful indeed. I couldnt remember if you wanted to remain anonymous or not ... so many kind frag lovers have sent me stuff I have lost track 🤦‍♂️
      All I can say is THANK YOU! 🐏

      Andy Tauer was a pioneer of modern perfumery. He sent us personalized bottles in tins with messages from Switzerland to the U.S. by mail before there was Internet readily available to all.

      This is true... I am a big fan of a few of his frags ... still want to buy a few more of his frags but I am happy with my Tauer collection at the moment 🤌🤌🤌

      Awe I was gonna send him NEFS and L’EAU D’Hiver. Oh well I’m glad he got to do a review of these two beautiful perfumes. Every time I plan to send him certain samples, I find out someone else has sent him the same ones . lol. Sigh 😔

    Very glad to see you do a video on this perfume. It is my #1 favorite perfume of all time thus far. To me it’s mysterious, melancholic, foggy, . It reminds me of quiet, foggy, early mornings on the lake, which gives me many childhood memories. Just beautiful.

      I just now got through the whole video, and I think your description of it being murky is quite accurate as well. It’s almost as if it embodies nature’s purity and primality in the spring time just after the last snow. I have not smelled Apres L’Onde, but I find L’Eau D’Hiver to be unlike anything I have ever smelled before.

    This is a great fragrance. It just disappeared on my skin really quickly, but I still appreciate it. One of his other fragrances for Frederick Malle, Angeliques Sous La Pluie starts out amazing, but within 5 minutes I get mostly cedarwood and then it completely disappeared on my skin. I heard that he actually created French Lover for Frederick Malle but he was under contract with Hermes at the time so Pierre Bourdon put his name on the bottle and possibly but some finishing touches. French Lover is amazing.

      I believe the great French Lover has been reformulated and terribly watered down. It was one of my favorite perfume but the current version is like 5% of what it used to be. I don't get it.

    Vibes coming and going…how do perfumers make that happen? To me, it’s the most amazing thing in perfumery. It makes sense that many great perfumers, when asked “what perfume do you wish you created?” And many answer “Apres L’ondee!” It’s a genius chemical creation. There’s plenty of heavy handed perfumes out there..but those spectacular qualities of perfumes where the beauty comes and goes blows me away. Apres L’ondee.. it’s V pure genius. I love L’eau d’hiver too. Too me, they’re very different from each other apart from the come and go aspect. I love Elena…. Open and beautiful.
    Glad you had the chance to smelll both.

    I have always loved Leau D’ Hiver but did not know about the connection to Apres L’ondee which I have always been intrigued with. Leau D’ Hiver does not always seem to be interesting for people, and my very old 1.7 ml bottle is still perfect today. I love your videos Ramsey, but what I really love about your videos is your research into perfumes and the notes they encompass, which are not in the radar due to thousands of new perfumes, but you actually realize the value of appreciating the beautiful perfumes of yesteryear. Although there are thousands upon mega thousands of perfumes and perfume houses these days, we wouldn’t have these new perfume houses, if the older ones never existed.

      Thank you Phyllis... I am glad you know about the connection between Apres L'Ondee now... for the longest time I didnt realize it either. You are so dead on with FM L’eau d’hiver …. Thank you for the breakdown as I bought a full bottle and loved it but didn’t understand why I loved it so. Funny for me to say that. But then again as a woman I also love geranium pour monsieur …. In working so closely with clients these are two that please me and yet do not offend.

    Last two Frederic Malle's have been meh for me. I actually think Malle are done for, they have nowhere to go now... they can't put out an all natural like Areej because they'd have to charge 2k for it. So they opt for synthetic'ness which should be in a designer bottle, not niche. I don't think they are alone either and the likes of Roja are going to struggle because the smaller indie brands are the new niche, high quality, risk taking, passion over profit and they interest me far more and the bonus is they don't usually have a toxic tribal following, which isn't their fault but it puts me off as much as the Aventus / Sauvage bros do.

    • @RamseytheRam
      @RamseytheRam  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know what you mean about "toxic followings" 😃
      Very well thought out and I would agree as a frag head Bortnikoff & Areej Le Doré are the mountain top (at least for now)

    • @EyeByBrian
      @EyeByBrian 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmmm, a rather simplistic view on the ‘designer/niche’ distinction. One, synthetics are part of the composition of most of the greatest fragrances ever created. They are foundational to modern perfumery. And several niche releases are unabashedly ‘synthetic’, deliberately and artistically so. Second, to say that indie houses are ‘high quality’ and are motivated by passion over profit is maybe true in a handful of instances but I think one has to admit that there is a lot of replication (hello, woody-ambers) and strategic market positioning in the ‘indie’ camp. I agree with you re F Malle. But they’ve had a pretty good 20+ year run!

    • @RamseytheRam
      @RamseytheRam  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Synthetics arent a bad thing...you spot on... i think its the way the synthetics are being used today that puts people off... and when he said Niche and mentioned AlD I think it is better qualified as Indie houses .. thats how I think of Bortnikoff & Areej Le Doré anyways🙂

    • @Andy_T79
      @Andy_T79 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@EyeByBrian Yes synthetic compounds do certainly have their place in perfumery, especially to lift, push and extend naturals, but overly in niche with high price brackets is my issue.
      Let's not kid ourselves, that synthetic compounds mimicking every natural ingredient hasn't been created for anything other than profit margins. There's been many cases of chemical companies lobbying politicians to ban so called 'carcinogenic or reactivate natural ingredients' because a few paid dermatologists say they should banned on the basis it affects 0.000000001% of the population.... it's infact misunderstood IFRA that do their own studies and push back on lobbied governmental bans (just as they did with oakmoss, which isn't an outright ban, but restricted and been through a process to remove the irritant acids)
      'Unabashedly synthetic, deliberately and artistically so' oh the marketing department really have done a number on you! ha, and they're banking on that kind of wool pulling talk to see them through and keep the brand sheep loyal.
