    What is the main reason for using something like this vs the colorchecker studio?

    • @slbarsness
      @slbarsness  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That is a camera calibration tool. This profile is specifically for printing - matching screen to paper and printer. Calibrating your camera won't hurt, but does not solve this problem!

      @@slbarsness A colorchecker studio is specifically for print/screen matching and creating ICC profiles. It's not a camera calibration tool. It just measures a smaller number of patches.

      @@phototocanvaspdx Oh, I see! I haven't worked wit that program/software. Looks more reasonably priced, and likely works the same way. The difference might be in the accuracy of the spectrophotometer and the capability of measuring more colors.

    Are these custom profiles for sale? For example for a specific printer and paper? I didn’t even know something like this existed and if I understand correctly I can better manage the media I’m choosing to use and expect near accurate result? If I understand correctly I can invest in this system and it would pays itself off by creating profiles for let’s say different manufacturer card stock? I know I would easily pay for the profiles NOW just to be able to deliver better image quality on media I find to be the best for some of my work. Great video!

      There are companies that can make you a custom profile - I think they are usually about $100-150 each. I don't offer that service but you can check to see who might do it in your area, Worth it if you are making your own prints and working on the same equipment/printer/paper. But manufacturer profiles are often very good, and are a good place to start. Most important is to be sure your monitor is calibrated, though, and that you are working in the right light to edit.

    Thank you for this video.
    Question
    Where in this process was it confirmed that the printer driver color management is off or disabled so the printer driver does not apply it’s default profile?
    Since this is an image as in a picture, we don’t want the printer applying any color management.
    I believe we want the file from the i1 printed w no default printer correction.
    Thank you!

      Sorry not to see this sooner. The X-rite program disables the color management. Although there was a brief disruption to that when Mac updated its OS a couple of years ago. There was a bit of communication glitch but I think that has been resolved!

    Hi,
    The machine is expensive just for creating the profile.
    I am looking for an apparel profile.
    if I send you of fabric printed with the color chart can you share the color profile.
    The printer is Epson F2100 which is a garment printer

      I don't make custom profiles for others but there are companies who do. Check around to see if there is one in your area. Usually they are about $100-150.

    Whats software did you use to create the icc profile?

    • @slbarsness
      @slbarsness  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is the X-rite software that you purchase along with the spectrophotometer. This video is a couple of years old but the process has not changed. However, there is an issue with later OS systems in Mac - they are working on it. And this is not a cheap system: about 3k for the equipment and the software together. But it is the best on the market.

    what is an ICC profile ?

    • @slbarsness
      @slbarsness  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The profile I make in this video is for printing on a specific digital paper to a specific printer. This video is part of a class - so it makes more sense in that context. ICC stands for International Color Consortium.

      It's a process/workflow for you devices that establishes consistent, predictable and repeatable results from photo or capture through proofing and print.
