    What is the main reason for using something like this vs the colorchecker studio?

    • @slbarsness
      @slbarsness 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That is a camera calibration tool. This profile is specifically for printing - matching screen to paper and printer. Calibrating your camera won't hurt, but does not solve this problem!

    • @phototocanvaspdx
      @phototocanvaspdx 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@slbarsness A colorchecker studio is specifically for print/screen matching and creating ICC profiles. It's not a camera calibration tool. It just measures a smaller number of patches.

    • @slbarsness
      @slbarsness 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@phototocanvaspdx Oh, I see! I haven't worked wit that program/software. Looks more reasonably priced, and likely works the same way. The difference might be in the accuracy of the spectrophotometer and the capability of measuring more colors.

    Thank you for sharing this knowledge with us. I got a question though Why do the paintings of the old masters still look outstanding compared to the modern day paintings? it is as if we have the skeleton of what's left of the good Old days. There is no life breathing in the modern paintings in my opinion.

    Is there an efficient way to organize a large cluster of photos into folders on the hard drive. Say I have 1000 images in /IMPORT, and I want to quickly sort them into 10 different groupings (usually based on date-time taken), each in its own /IMPORT/event_name subfolder. Will that require 10 repetitive workflows, or just one (e.g. select & label the groupings and then magically cast them into subfolders ... is that a thing?)?

    Thank you for this video. Question Where in this process was it confirmed that the printer driver color management is off or disabled so the printer driver does not apply it’s default profile? Since this is an image as in a picture, we don’t want the printer applying any color management. I believe we want the file from the i1 printed w no default printer correction. Thank you!

    • @slbarsness
      @slbarsness 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sorry not to see this sooner. The X-rite program disables the color management. Although there was a brief disruption to that when Mac updated its OS a couple of years ago. There was a bit of communication glitch but I think that has been resolved!

    Hi, The machine is expensive just for creating the profile. I am looking for an apparel profile. if I send you of fabric printed with the color chart can you share the color profile. The printer is Epson F2100 which is a garment printer

    • @slbarsness
      @slbarsness ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't make custom profiles for others but there are companies who do. Check around to see if there is one in your area. Usually they are about $100-150.

  • @zvkvhs3818
    @zvkvhs3818 ปีที่แล้ว

    Are these custom profiles for sale? For example for a specific printer and paper? I didn’t even know something like this existed and if I understand correctly I can better manage the media I’m choosing to use and expect near accurate result? If I understand correctly I can invest in this system and it would pays itself off by creating profiles for let’s say different manufacturer card stock? I know I would easily pay for the profiles NOW just to be able to deliver better image quality on media I find to be the best for some of my work. Great video!

    • @slbarsness
      @slbarsness ปีที่แล้ว

      There are companies that can make you a custom profile - I think they are usually about $100-150 each. I don't offer that service but you can check to see who might do it in your area, Worth it if you are making your own prints and working on the same equipment/printer/paper. But manufacturer profiles are often very good, and are a good place to start. Most important is to be sure your monitor is calibrated, though, and that you are working in the right light to edit.

    My LrC catalog is at 56k so I want trim it down by moving older image folders to an external drive to archive them but I don't want to lose the edits. My images are saved on my computer HD. If I move older folders to an external drive would I then delete those folders on my computer drive and wold LrC recognise them on the new location on the plugged in external as demonstrated in the video?

    • @slbarsness
      @slbarsness ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. The edits are saved as "sidecar" files (XMP) or embedded if you use the DNG format. Just be sure to move EVERYTHING over. Don't delete the XMP files. You won't have a history anymore, but you will have the edits, and can revert the files back to the unedited version if you need to. You can also move them to the external file from inside of Lightroom - that removes them from the computer at the same time. But It always makes me a bit nervous to do that. And, Ideally, you should have at least two copies of all your files.

    • @slbarsness
      @slbarsness ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh - if you don't move them IN Lightroom, you would need to re-import or synchronize them to the catalog.

      This is the X-rite software that you purchase along with the spectrophotometer. This video is a couple of years old but the process has not changed. However, there is an issue with later OS systems in Mac - they are working on it. And this is not a cheap system: about 3k for the equipment and the software together.
