My fastest lap around the Automation Test Track, likely a world record in BeamNG using AkimboBeta's SBR4 tune with some adjustments. This is a clean lap, which makes it hard to verify as a world record because the shortcut runs dominate the speedrun.com leaderboard for Automation Test Track Race Track Circuit, but a sub 1'40 is nothing to scoff at either way.

Do you need a controller or steering wheel to play racing games? It’s just a piece of hardware.

@@endgamerplays not necessarily, controller or steering wheels are the most efficient way to race in a racing game. so it is really impressive if u manage to do a corner faster than a steering wheel/controller driver. however it takes the same amount of practice as any hardware to master keyboard. and most of the time players make their own tune to their liking, and steering wheels/controllers have a steering, throttle and braking radius. so the tuning capability is infinite on steering wheels/controllers. hence making steering wheels and controllers a more recommended hardware when it comes to racing. be aware that some racing games are better with keyboard if they have a more arcade-ish feeling, the most efficient hardwares for arcade racing in general are keyboard and controller. if the game doesnt have steering radius, then keyboard is the most efficient option. if it does have steering radius, the best option may be controller.
to simply answer ur question, no u dont need a controller or steering wheel to play racing games. although it is highly recommended.
