I don't like how they painted Allister in the movie. In the books he wasn't this arrogant, sleazy rich player. He was good looking, sure, but he was also rather insecure and often overlooked by his richer and more favored cousins and siblings. He just wanted to be noticed by them, thus how Kitty got into play, and seemed to ge a genuinely sweet character. Eddie was the worst of them
Agree. Hopefully they will make that side of Alistair in the sequels. Colin also portrayed as depressed person in the book, behind his cheerful and confidence attitude. I wonder if CRA can bring mental health issues in Asian elite societies too.
Yeah definitely. Also in the books they go way deeper into the characters lives and while I still loved her and the movie as a whole, I feel like Astrid had more personality in the books. Tho the changes make sense since there were a tone of characters and the movie would probably be too long and confusing if it replicated the book entirely lol.

I still think it's a little strange that Nick & his family (and his friends) are so well known & Rachel, who's been dating Nick for over a year, has never Googled them. Her mother's clearly never looked them up either, which seems unlikely. We see that Rachel is on Facebook & even if Nick's not he's still apparently incredibly famous. Ok but Astrid is one of my idols. And that is a very VERY small group of people, so that says a lot about her. She redefined class and the icon status.
Something I noticed when watching this movie is that Eleanor made a big point on her not accepting Rachel wasn't because she was poor but she was American. And when you consider the other significant others the family seemingly didn't like in the film (Fiona and Kitty), you start to realize that they too had American accents like Rachel, while everybody else had either a British or Chinese accent. Even Michael who was possibly poorer and "lower class" than Rachel, Kitty and Fiona was accepted into the family and he didn't have an American accent. I'm not sure if it was intentional but it was a nice touch and helps Eleanor's narrative of "I dislike you because you're American".
