      I'm going to guess that Glenn Frey and Don Henley took more of the profits but also had to pay out more in bills and such. They probably wanted to do that so they were responsible of the business end of the band so everyone would get along and egos wouldn't keep going. The other guys agreed but Don Felder. He wanted everyone to be 100% equal. Unfortunately (even Don Henley has said) that it's Glenn's band, its always been Glenn's band.

Hotel California wasn't just a hit, it hit at the pinnacle of, and helped make, the greatest of California mythology. And Henley did write some fantastic lyrics to a genius guitar part. And also played some amazing drums as well.

    It's very interesting how Bernie Leadon, Felder Petty all came out of Gainsville Fla. Most of the Heartbreakers were from there also. Gainsville is not any sort of a mecca for musical talent; well you would'nt think so but apparantly it is!! It"s just a small college town in central Fla. The actor River Pheniox lived there before checking out. I had dinner there one night after an airboat wedding held on lake Orange. Crazy hot in the summer, cold and uninviting in the winter months.. Thanx to the town of Gainsville for providing such wonderful artists.(pay no attention to the numbers you see) 34:02

    Feldner is a gentleman. I still have the utmost respect for the man. His revelations of his recollections of debauchery saddens me, because I thought he was stronger in morals. Ill get over my high expectations of my view of him. He will always be at the top of my most highly regarded guitarist, all around mucisicians singer, song writing stage perfoermers that I've been influenced by. Not so much in the morality faithful. God bless Don Feldner. Hes made a mark on countless lives. His music will live for a multitude of generations if not forever, and how Long is that?

    Hotel California is the song that separates them. It even makes the other songs they wrote earlier more definable. It makes the group somewhat ”devilish”. It brings everything together in some sense. Even King of Hollywood would never had been written without it. It has the aura of another side of California, the ”dark side”.
    Great song, great lyrics. Kudos to Felder AND Frey+Henley for writing it. //Niclas from 🇸🇪

    No one in the band questioned whether Felder was a great player and played historic solos on their great songs, including Hotel California. Glenn Frey made it pretty clear in an interview that I saw that Felder wanted equal royalties share and Frey didnt want to give it to him, since he didn't write the songs. Now, you can argue how important historic lead solos are to songs, I understand that. But I also understand a writer not feeling he needed to share a straight percentage with a non-writer. This is how bands get wrecked frequently, over royalty splits.

    • @jimbo33
      @jimbo33 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Nowhere is it said this was about royalties but rather about the contract to share equally the income generated by the Band! This was not about royalties but about a legal agreement that was not followed by Frey and Henley!

    As much as I love Felder and admire his vast talents, some of his comments should be taken with a whole heap of salt. When he tries to say that Henley's ego didn't like the spotlight being shined on the other members, that I found a bit suspect. I have always been a huge Eagles fan and all the members hold a special place to me. When I was a kid, I went to see them on the Long Run tour. I had seats in the first row and had rented a huge professional camera with a telescopic lens. Early in the show, Felder had noticed the camera and started playing to it. He would get into great Guitar God poses, which I was ecstatic about. But as the show went on, I wanted pictures of the other guys, but when I would aim the camera, Felder would deliberately step into the shot and ruin the photo. He would do this for every member downstage from him, Frey and Schmit. When I tried to get a photo of Henley on the drums, Felder would plant himself in my view. Even Walsh, who was the closest Eagle to my seat, when I would aim the camera at him, Felder would adopt the most outlandish pose to get the attention back on him. After the concert, my friend and I both commented about what a huge ego he had, so his words here ring more than a little false.
    And the next might seem callous, but let's consider numbers. Again, I loved all the seven Eagles equally, but after the break up of the band/leaving the band, Leading, Meisner, Schmit and Felder output of music barely registered as a blip. Walsh, who was famous before joining, had a couple of notable songs. Frey had a handful of genuine hits, "The Heat Is On" and "You Belong To The Night," but Henley was the powerhouse of hit song making, "Dirty Laundry," "The Boys of Summer," "All She Wants To Do Is Dance," "The Heart Of The Matter," etc. At least three quarters of the Eagles hits had Henley's name on it while only one hit had Felder's, along with a couple of great album tracks, but that one hit that Felder had also had Henley's name on it. In fact, what Felder forgot to mention that when Frey and Henley first heard "Mexican Reggae," as it was known and asked Felder to expound on it, Felder had forgotten the tune and had to relearn it from listening to his tape. Again, I admire Felder so much for his musical talents, but....
