Baby Elephant Bull, Phabeni Joins the Herd Again!

- We are pleased to tell you that yesterday and today, our little patient Phabeni has been able to join the herd out in the bush again. His energy is much better, and although we still need to monitor him very closely and constantly, we know that time with the herd will boost his well-being. This plays a vital role in his health and reducing stress.
We will still need to do further procedures on the wound on his hip and ensure he drinks enough milk, while supplementing his diet with whatever fruit and vegetables he will eat. Currently red apples are a favourite!
When Phabeni met up with the herd again yesterday, it was a rather silent meeting, as the elephants all gathered around him and smelt him. Typically, the bulls didn't give him much attention. The bulls are less affected, but the cows were all very excited to have him back. Khanyisa danced her trunk all around and over Phabeni and sniffed out his blanket, which we kept on for the colder morning. After smelling each other, the elephants headed out walking.
Today, there was much more of a ceremonial welcoming, with lots of smelling and more vocal interactions. We are sure that Phabeni is happy to be among his family again after a few days of recovery. ❤️🩹

I saw that too. 😥. Sniffing a lot by his ear that had needles. They know their baby Phabeni is not well. Can they smell the blood transfusion I wonder? Praying he get better right away.
@@sallyrickerson9139 Adine had a cut on her knee once and all the ellie's were touching it with their trunks..and she had jeans on!..They are full of empathy for all living creatures..love them.
And Adines daughter had an injection and the Herd knew..

Look at our little leader Beni out in front leading the herd🥺it is so good to see him with them again and I’m sure they are so happy to have him back,safety cocooned amongst their big bodies where he belongs. Please drink all of your milk and eat your fruits and veggies, Baby Phabeni, so you can do this everyday. It's a great delight to see him with his herd again. He is certainly happy to be outside with his family. They are indeed a very big part of his treatment plan. These cows know baby Beni has been thru a ordeal....Sweet Klasserie following the baby's lead..and Mama Setombe gently inquiring every few minutes that he is alright with her massive trunk being as gentle as can be! Beni knows he is loved and protected...and with the Grace of God he will pull through this very difficult time! This beautiful Herd and carers are covered in our prayers, well wishes and love! Praise the Lord for putting ellie and humans exactly where they need to be at this crucial time in Beni's young life...Much love to Mambo as well for his part in helping this sweet baby bull! The little guy must have missed the comfort of the herd as much as the herd were aware of his absence and would have felt concern/worry - to put it in human terms. Great relief all round, elephants and humans will all feel more reassured again. The treatment for the recurring infection will also make little Phabeni feel better ❤❤❤

I'm so glad Beni was feeling well enough to get out and spend time with his family. It continues to amaze me how devoted they are to each other, providing emotional support, whether it's an elephant feeling scared or simply stopping their walk because the baby wants to take a nap. They really do love and nurture each other.

It is so good to see Phabeni back with the other elephants. The females showed such concern and devotion regarding his well being. It is fascinating to see how they smell him and express such concern over him. He is lucky to have them in his life.
Setombe and the HERD certainly knew right away that Seuntjie hasn't been himself. Their sense of smell and innate intelligence and intuitiveness sets them apart from many other mammals.
Elephants can feel a wide range of emotions and surely apart from missing Phabeni, they know that something is off. But look at how they trust Adine and Carers implicitly. That is a bond that cannot easily be broken. That Khanyisa, our darling Meisiekind ran over to Phabeni and wrapped her trunk around him is testimony to what a wonderful elephant Khanyisa is and will grow up to be. She never ceases to amaze. May Phabeni feel the love that is all around him!
This is great to see him living large with the others, soaking up that vitamin D in the sunshine! Still in my prayers.

It's lovely to see Our Darling Boy out with his other family. They are so gentle with him, just letting him go at his own pace, not rushing him. The elephants obviously know that he is not feeling well. They are attentive as ever with Phabeni. It is so Heartwarming to see him out.
