    Thanks for this unusual pairing of musicians. Amazing that you could find this kind of jazz performance on broadcast TV in those days.

    Looking forward to this -two of my favorite Jazz legends -got to meet Kenton at the Frog and Nightgown in Raleigh in the 70’s

    This is such a treasure. I realize it's really old, but surely the video quality wasn't this bad when this premiered? I've seen some much clearer broadcasts from the same era.

      I understand how you feel. But these kinds of videos are very rare and hard to come by. Maybe in some future civilization AI will be able to update and fix.

    Ellington could really play; I think Kenton basically just gave up on the piano pretty early on in his career and focused on being a bandleader. A more interesting comparison would be Basie’s light touch v Duke’s slashing style.
