Yeah whatever dipshittery they were into for the entire tone of that album is still odd. I remember listening to it when it was new, and I had to give it about 5 listens before I got it. Live recordings from that time frame sound pretty good, but the studio album is not great. The guitars are almost all mid range, and the guitar is a mid range heavy instrument so that gets weird. There is no bass, because of many reasons, i.e Newkid usually copied Jaymz rhythms, plus they were hazing him hard because he wasn't Cliff (we all probably know the story by now). Agreed. This was the first SLAYER album I really got into. It was fast and brutal, but the slower tunes with some (gasp!) melodies works really well for a band that is screaming about Satan. And then I got into Reign In Blood and forget about it....
Anybody ever theorize or imagine what Metallica would’ve created if Dave had never been kicked out and Cliff hadn’t died? Of course you’d have to assume that Dave still got clean and all but FU&k! Can you even imagine James and Dave in charge of riffs with Cliff providing guidance on melodies and harmonies? It’s too far beyond my capacity for fantasy.💪🏻🤘🏻
@@bigbrutalbassbeer410 this was before cliff died but James decided not kick Lars out after he died. Now image if cliff never passed and they did end up hiring Dave, and not kicking out Mustain. Metallica would be the best metal band of all time.
Slayer to me is the best thrash metal band by far!!!! But Metallica, especially the first 3 albums, are good. Especially Kill 'Em All, which for me is the easy top 3 of the best trash ever.
Metallica at this point played a somber thrash metal with a dense guitar sound, rich in melodies and angry drumming. Slayer played what you could call dark thrash, the riffs are straight-out violent, the drumming is pure aggression, the guitar distortion didn't need to be the densest, the music itself probably makes Slayer the heaviest thrash metal band in all History.
I certainly wouldn’t call Slayer the heaviest when there’s Demolition Hammer, Dark Angel or even Sepultura also maybe the heaviest at the time with Hell Awaits.

Metallica KEA through AJFA shaped my puberty and adolescence. Though I respect and appreciate the pure riffige of Slayer, and Dave is a beast, I just couldn’t ‘get into’ the chaos and carnage they bring.
Justice guitar tone influenced way more players but that being said south of heaven was the first album I learned to play start to finish so I gotta give it to slayer they are the reason I started to play guitar also they never mellowed unlike James and the boys
AJFA isbetter in my opinion, but Slayer has always achieved that kind of creepy ambience melodies that I really enjoy
Slayer never mellowed but got staled rather quickly
Ruthless playing as always! Great albums, it would be cool to see more like this! 😁🤘👏
Edit: And justice and for all is my all-time favorite Metallica album for sure 🤘
Spiritual Healing VS Cause Of Death ?
@@TheSuffocater I’m thinking Cannibal Corpse or Dying Fetus VS (Insert band here) lol! If you were to ever do one like that, that is ☺️
@@TheSuffocater that would be amazing
Awesome!! 🤘🏼🤘🏼🔥🔥🔥 Thanks for the 7 minutes of nostalgia. In 1988 it was just a brain explosion 😄
The two records couldn't be more different. Apples and oranges.
Lombardos drumming is absolutely unreal on South of Heaven. True art on that one.
Ulrich on justice... At least he tried I guess.
That's BS. On AJFA Lars's drumming is amazing. Lots of tempo and time signature changes. Stop the hate 😜
@@tiscover haha its amateur hour stuff
What a load of cr@p.
LoL,,I reckon lars would have a heart attack tryin to play the drums on south of heaven
I didn't want to help ruin the 66.6k subscribers but I had to subscribe, your channel is great. This is my favourite video of yours so far, and they're all great. Wish you a good day mate 🤘
Thanks a lot Christian ! Welcome to my channel !
A set of classics playing classics...
Perfect sound! Thanks a lot, man! You're the best! :) \m/
Guitar tones so accurate!
Excellent video, thanks for all your hard work. I judge the winner by the album I listen to at the end of your vid. In this case, Justice!!!! That's a killer album...ending it with Dyer's was incredible.
SLAYER.. 🤘🏼
Hell yeah dude this was sick.
slayer
Slayer all the time !!
Правосудие на мой взгляд, самый сложный металл альбом. Для настоящих поклонников Металлики он на первом или на втором среди всей дискографии группы.
А слесари в своём деле лучшие!
One more 101% ass kicking video by Suffocater! Killer axes! Nicely done, bro!!!!!!
For this time Metallica, AJFA is masterpiece
The Raiders jersey was a great touch!! And the all black tshirt was cool too
HOLY SHIT!!! My head just exploded. A flawless tribute to two of the best metal albums of the late ‘80’s. Phenomenal job!
Metal at its finest, beautiful riffs.
SLAYER!!!
Very well played, man!
And the winner is: Metallica!
Doesn't matter what album is a favourite, all your riffs are on point.
Even though I think AJFA is a wark record when it comes to riffs I think it wins this battle
I love South of Heaven but I am a bigger fan of seasons in the abyss and if it had been Abyss versus Justice it would have won but I have to give it to Justice for being much sicker throughout riff wise than South of Heaven.
SLAYER 🤘. TESTAMENT VS EXODUS
Great Video. Wish EVERY RIFF was Dropped in there but it would take all night and day to see that! 🤘🏽🔥⚡️
For the Slayer stuff just check my Slayer playlist , i almost covered the whole album 😎
Man, '88 was a banger year for metal, tons of great albums that year, my personal fave for '88 was Razor
violent restitution.
Great SHIT!!!!! Both Albums hands down!!!!! I think James and Jeff had Great respect for each other...
They where live within shouting distance of each other Jeff grew up in Buena Park while James and Kerry grew up in Downey Kerry went Warren High while James went to Downey high a mile away.
SLAYER for me, but AJFA was a killer album and tour!!!!! My son and I are learning Expendable Youth by SLAYER.. hes 15 on drums, and I'm 50 on guitar.....neighbors love it!!! They think its cool!!!!!😂🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘

Thumbs up for you! Me and my drummer friend were learning this stuff back in 88 at that age and my girl did a Metallica drum cover with me a few years ago when she was 8! /w\/w\ This year for middle sckool she sequestered one of my Metallica shirts and steals my Hemlock hoodie all the time {;o)
good job. I have lots of good memories of these.
El ganador es Slayer, amigo, gracias y saludos desde Colombia.
Listened to and loved those two bands for over 30 years now.
Totally different bands both legendary.
Saw slayer live in Brisbane Queensland Australia about 25 year's ago, it was mind blowing !!!!
As a guitarist I was in complete awe of there precision timing and shredding at the same time, just amazing!!
South of heaven still my favorite slayer album!
I love when someone says that! Mine too ,🤘🏼
Agreed. This was the first SLAYER album I really got into. It was fast and brutal, but the slower tunes with some (gasp!) melodies works really well for a band that is screaming about Satan. And then I got into Reign In Blood and forget about it....
SLAYER always reigns supreme in thrash metal.grew up on slayer from the beginning great vid👍⚡👹💀AHS666
Don’t forget they were planning on kicking out Lars and replace him with Dave Lombardo
@@theethniccleanser1385
Now that’s a new one for me, never heard about that!
@@bigbrutalbassbeer410 this was before cliff died but James decided not kick Lars out after he died. Now image if cliff never passed and they did end up hiring Dave, and not kicking out Mustain. Metallica would be the best metal band of all time.
Mustaine was on the road to ruin, kicking him out saved his life in my opinion.
Would have been interesting nonetheless.
They wouldn't be what they are with Dave.
This is awesome… it’s high school all over again!
Slayer to me is the best thrash metal band by far!!!! But Metallica, especially the first 3 albums, are good. Especially Kill 'Em All, which for me is the easy top 3 of the best trash ever.
That was Kool!!!!
Do it again!
This video reminds me of how great Slayer is.! 🤘🏻
Amazing video !! Great comparison 💥
Dos discos que me encantan. Son dos joyas editadas el mismo año. Gracias por el vídeo. Muy bueno.
Both of these is classic masterpiece
My head hurts from headbanging \m/\m/
😊😊
nice trip back in time, kudos 🤘
Metallica at this point played a somber thrash metal with a dense guitar sound, rich in melodies and angry drumming. Slayer played what you could call dark thrash, the riffs are straight-out violent, the drumming is pure aggression, the guitar distortion didn't need to be the densest, the music itself probably makes Slayer the heaviest thrash metal band in all History.
I certainly wouldn’t call Slayer the heaviest when there’s Demolition Hammer, Dark Angel or even Sepultura also maybe the heaviest at the time with Hell Awaits.
Metallica were the kings of groove though.
Slayer had you think about the darkness of humanity. And I fucking loved it.
@@angelotrinidad6888 don't forget kreator, sodom, merciless, and oppobrium
SLAY-UH! Every GD day! \m/
I grew up with both albums with my father,he would blast it in his truck . And justice for all will always resonate with me . That album is a masterpiece even if there’s no bass.
Two of the best albums to come out of 1988
Sepultura vs Kreator
Ooooooh yeeeaaaah
I really enjoyed this!!
