    What a fantastic new series, Muse. I love to approach media from an undestanding of the culture that produced it. Thanks for this incredible work.

    Fascinating video. It's not often people bother to delve into the rich context of the media we now consume for granted, but imo it's incredibly important, or at the very least, very valuable.

      I blame the poor translations and the lack of accapeting diverse culture in the West even though the irony of the west claiming to accept individually

    Also, japanese media is quite fascinanting. I'm glad you decided to do a video about it. Right now, my favorite shows/movies of it are "Naruto", "Serial Experiments Lain", "Perfect Blue", "Paprika" and "Youjo Senki". And in videogames, I'm exploring the saga "Shin Megami Tensei". Can't wait for part 2 !

      Ryukishi07 certainly likes using flashbacks, flashforwards and POV changes in the When They Cry series yeah. And just at the right amount to make it interesting, but not confusing I‘d say.

    It's incredible how each time a japanese god is suposed to be destroyed or destroy something, they end up only creating someone new to the pantheon. It gives off the idea that a god is uncapable of embracing the concept of destruction due to the fact it counters the concept of immortality. This is quite a frustratingly beautiful take on eternal life.

    • @Zeithri
      @Zeithri ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a common theme in all mythology
      Some god wanks off, or cuts their finger and a new god is born.
      The head is cut off and from the blood a new God is born and so forth.
      Hell Set decapitated Osiris and spread his parts all over Egypt but Osiris' lover Isis put him together piece by piece again.

      Couldn't see the other the reply, but like it's mentioned in other forms of media, ( vampires, werewolves, gods, or demons ) immortality becomes more of a curse then a blessing, because everything just loses its luster after awhile.

Definitely helps me to appreciate the deeper workings of Japanese fiction, and understand the common threads that connect them. Eagerly looking forward to the next vid.

    Muse, I have to commend your work. I've been living in Japan for some time now, and rather than feeling emboldened to present videos like this one, I've become less inclined. But I think your material is slowly bringing me from that brink. I want to share the things I've learned as well, through my own lens. Perhaps not in the literary sense, although I could go that route, I think I will seek a different niche albeit similar to your presentation here. Congratulations on launching this series. I look forward to seeing the rest. よろしくお願いいたします。

    Well, it's official. My fanfic of "AICO" is gonna respect japanese media. I was afraid that I might make it too western like. But this video shows I do have the potential to write a story that respects the eastern midia's structure.

    Hi Muse ! I finished my book (Similar stories), if you're still interested in reading and then make a video analysing it. It's very short, and you can read it pretty quickly. I have to warn you, my writing sucked a little in a few chapters, but I gave an explanation for it in a chapter (think of it, as the bad voice acting in "SH", which people say it adds to the saga's magic). I hope you enjoy it. And if you want to, we can discuss the details about the video. Bye bye 👋 !
    P.S: The cape, is that of a girl with a dress like pijama starting right at you.

    • @JabamiLain
      @JabamiLain 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Uglysub5 what ? Writing a book ? I guess the important thing is to first read books in which the grammar is highly complimented, and, that when you read, the writing doesn't tell "This is what's happening and here's why", but rather, makes you think about what's happening and question why. However, what you really need, is the practice. Write, ask for opinions and compare what you wrote with books you consider to have better writing. We all make mistakes. But as long as we are aware of it, we have the hability to judge our work and keep writing until the moment we compare with something we considered better, and say "Yes ! This is exactly what I captured in my story !".
      I hope I made myself clear. I'm also new at this.

    This was very interesting! I hope you continue on this topic bc this is exactly what I've been looking for.
    I'm not the biggest anime fan, and when I do watch it I've noticed myself tending more towards more western influenced ones like Berserk, Blood of Zeus, or Castlevania, just because it feels like there's so much I don't "get" otherwise and I struggle to maintain interest bc the story is distinctly different in layout, motivations, and character types than what I'm used to. This really helped me start to appreciate Japanese literature and form more. 💜
    If you do another video on this topic, could you maybe cover the distinctive trope I've noticed where when a fight happens EVERY single character watching has to react and give thought to what's going on? For example: *hero begins to power up*
    Person 1: "I don't know if he can do it!"
    2: "he's so exhausted from his previous battle"
    3: "you can do it!"
    4: "I'm worried his (insert energy name) is too weak!"
    5: "Look at what (opponent) is doing!"
    6: "HAHA he will surely fail"
    And on and on every time a change on the battlefield happens. I've noticed this SO MUCH and if there's a cultural reason behind it I'd really love to know.

    I love anime so much. But I'm afraid it will soon be illegal in America. I'm trying to get my hands on as much as I can before that happens. I really don't want it to be illegalized in the US but too many Americans want it that way and I'm afraid they'll inevitably succeed in getting their way.

    • @zitronentee

      @dimensionalmagic 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@justinratcliffe947 you got a point, though you could add Europe as well since they are also bringing these things up. The main issue is the older conservative population in control with higher positions that causes a stir and the canceling culture in the western part of the world does create exposure and problems with the eastern countries. I'm afraid the more we are all connected online, the more cultural clashes and country differences will start rubbing each other, it's not gonna be pretty. The American netizens are more vocal which is getting annoying and downright frustrating to deal with various online platforms. Truthfully, I blame the country's history and conditions for most current Americans' trauma and getting triggered.
