For me the most beautiful song cycle ever written for male voice and orchestra. Absolutely sublime. Especially this recording.

@@HistoiresdeLouiseso much less good than this recording sadly. Gerhardt speaks his way through the piece, and does not have the low notes or legato to really do justice to the work. At least someone is performing it rather than no one!

I recently stumbled upon a wonderful work by Schoeck which led me to further discoveries of equally marvelous music such as this Elegie. This particular work will be added to my bucket list, and I cannot wait to perform it one day!
