Just imagine if you were playing this in the arcade when it was new. The way the robot takes off in the beginning and that triumphant music, it would be so damn mind blowing.

whoa... that intro showing the 3 ships combining into a robot is so nostalgic of 80's combiner giant robots.

I remember playing this in the arcade. I can never forget the music of the first level, though I forgot the NAME of this game until this video. :P

      Terra Cresta?

Same. They had this game in the snack shop of a drive in movie theater I used to go to as a kid. I was searching for this and another game that allowed you to combine into a big ship or separate into smaller ships called "Terra Cresta" that I also forgot the name of. That one was at a Godfather's Pizza in my home town :)

@@skarlock5257 "UFO Robo Dangar" and "Terra Cresta" were confused in my childhood memories for years. I remembered the two names, but didn't remember what was part of each of them. For example, were the dinosaurs from Dangar of Terra Cresta? (now I know there were biological dinos in Terra Cresta and robotic ones in Dangar). I wasn't able to tell them apart until MAME came along and I could play both of them again. In my defense, both were made by the same company and have similar mechanics and visuals.

I have a very dim childhood memory of seeing this game in an arcade in Korea when I was around five years old. I mostly remember it for the music, but I also seem to remember a part where you literally fight against mecha. Couldn't find it in this video though.

The owner of this TH-cam should come out to Galloping Ghost Arcade in Brookfield, IL and play these on the real arcade hardware and set some world records.

It looks like the creators of this game took more than a little bit of inspiration from several of Go Nagai's giant robot animes. Three ships combine into a robot, like in Getter Robo, this robots shots rocket fists, like Mazinger Z, and combines in a saucer-like ship like UFO Robo Grendizer (if the name was not clue enough). But it was a fun game, so I don't hold it against them.

Robo Dangar should've got his own anime series, movie and manga/toy tie-in! Did the toy companies in Japan miss something here?

"Dangard UFO Robo" was inspired in "Dangard Ace" and "UFO Robo Grendizer" both were Anime series by Toei Animation Co. Ltd.

Seeing as they took more than a little bit of inspiration from several of Go Nagai's giant robot animes, they would probably have been sued.
