John's voice is very clear like crystal and cuts through which is why he is heard above the band. He's very charismatic and has the audience in the palm of his hand. He is well-loved not just for his tremendous talent but also because he is such a decent, caring and humble man. John co-wrote this song. The stadiums of people are sold out many times over.
You have only just scratched the surface with John's music, he has over 40 years of hit songs. One concert that I was lucky enough to go see was " the main event concert" John Farnham, Olivia Newton John and Anthony Warlow, the whole concert was epic, you should definitely give that a go to react to, you will get to know John's personality a bit better, you will laugh, you will cry and you will be amazed at the talent of all three of them. Love seeing your reaction and listening to your opinion 😊 👍👍👍❤️🇦🇺
Farnham always seems to have the very best line up of musicians. This band here is HOT! Of course, what else would you expect from such a great singer.
Shout out to the musicians and background singers, top class. Great reaction, you make some good points. What more can you say about John? He is the GOAT. Yes Olivia and John at The Main Event concert. I was there!😊
The last time I saw this song live was in 2010. John was 60 (50 in this one), and it still had the same energy and he was still singing in the same key (and most of the same band).
Love this song - John actually wrote this one! :) Check out the version on the Chain Reaction tour or with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra if you want as well - he was a bit younger in them and they are very high energy!
John wrote this while he was the lead vocalist in The Little River Band and he was tired of singing someone else’s back catalogue and tired of not singing something more rock. He’s a brilliant showman but never forgot and always appreciated his fans after struggling in the 1970’s when being viewed as a has been and a bit “daggy”. You should listen to his rendition of Bridge Over Troubled Water during this period. Help and You’re the voice resurrected his career in the 1980’s.
John concerts always sold out, and usually he had to schedule more shows in each city. I don't think he ever did a tour that was not sold out. Understandable. He is one of a kind, talent wise and personality wise. No wonder we love him.
If that is Melbourne he has sold out that Stadium more than 90 times and it looks like Melbourne. That is just one City here. John is humble and loved. He is normal and would stop to talk to anyone, he is kind and oddly I have seen him be shy. You couldn’t keep him still on stage if you tried. I love how he sometimes forgets to use his microphone but his voice stays the same. You have many other songs that showcase his voice more than the last two. Thank you.
Playing To Win is originally a Little River Band song written by John over his frustration with being in the band while some members was making it very difficult for him . Ironic the song about his frustration caused even more controversy within LRB because all the members and even the producer was credited as songwriters when actually some of them had nothing to do with the writing of the song. They all thought John the casual songwriter may have possibly written a worldwide hit so all of them wanted a piece of the pie . Because LRB was in serious trouble financially and only the songwriters got paid through royalties . LRB had many USA top 10’s with original singer Glenn Shorrock but they never had that number 1 they all had high expectations for Play To Win , sadly it wasn’t to be . Hardcore LRB fans didn’t buy into the change in musical direction from harmony yacht rock than made the band famous to Playing To Win synth new wave rock . Playing To Win didn’t even make the top 50 in Australia and USA . But Australian sporting programs picked the song up as a promotional song the gained popularity as a sports anthem within Australia. Playing To Win remains the only LRB that John continued to sing at every concert since he left LRB in 1986 . Because Playing To Win is John’s signature LRB the song is now one of most popular song for LRB through streaming services .
John is the consummate entertainer.... sadly, cancer does not discriminate and John fell victim to it. Thankfully, after extensive surgery, he is on the mend.

Like the description says...my absolute favorite version of this song.
Love love love this version and your reaction … as others have said you have only just scratched the surface he is such a legend❤
His voice has a compelling attractiveness that can inspire devotion in others. He has hooked me!🤭🦘🦘🦘
Hi Paul Love this performance and Johns voice is so powerful ❤❤

They don't come to listen to him sing, they come to be part of the experience.

Hed sell out multiple times in every city and could've done it for weeks in each city
Thank you
