I'm looking at a 58' ferro ketch right now for stupid cheap and this video, as well as the video where you guys got smashed between two giant charter boats that would have sunk virtually any given fiberglass production boat, have convinced me to move forward. I think the charter boat captains were more surprised than anything else lol.
You have made the right choice, ferrocement sailboats are excellent boats, solid and not expensive to the ahcat because they have a bad reputation which is not justified... good luck and lots of beautiful trips to you both
So basically you had next to zero funds when you left? I just looked at a ferro cement today. Coach house completely rotten. But all the steel looked brand new and the hull was in good nick. Stepped mast. 35hp motor. I was just going to strip the entire inside out, put a new basic coach house on it, throw a hammock in there, portable stove, fridge and go. Thought?
Ferro cement boats/yachts have been around for many many years. If built correctly they will last a hundred years. Bigger Ferro cement yachts are as fast as other yachts. The maintenance is no more or less than on others such as fibreglass, aluminium and steel and far less than wood. Enjoy your yacht it will take you anywhere
we are building a ferro cement boat in siem reap cambodia, she be 60ft vessel, we finished a 120 ft ex cargo boat made of steel but she was sank when i found her, she is 100 yo so i ended up ferro cementing her haul as she was too far gone to weld in new plates, that was 10 years ago and zero leaks

I have a wooden yacht, which is on the high maintance side of things, but repairing the hull every 2 to 3 months seems absolutely insane to me!
