  • We dived 4 wrecks at Key Largo. Impressive view. Getting into some of the mysterious wrecks was the best part. Lots of fish, one shark, several turtles.

      Wow! Thank you for your kind note. We loved Duane and Benwood as well. Wondering if they look different from 20 years ago.

    Did you dive the wrecks on your own ? or where you with a dive operator ? and if so, do you have any recommendations ?

    Were the Coast Guard cutters actual wrecks or were they sunk to make playgrounds for divers under the guise of creating reefs like the USS Oriskany was?

    • @journeysofaz8863
      @journeysofaz8863  ปีที่แล้ว

      They were sunk to build new reef environment as home for marine lives. Large surface like boat can help reef attach and grow.

    • @richardcline1337
      @richardcline1337 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@journeysofaz8863, THAT's the story they tell but in reality they are sunk close enough to land that the rich tourists can dive on them. If they WERE reef ships they would be farther and deeper than they are. I have NEVER bought into their story and I never will.

    • @journeysofaz8863
      @journeysofaz8863  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@richardcline1337 Even natural reefs only live in shallow water because they need the sun light. There is no reef in deep water anyway. It's dark there. Try to explore and learn the world use your own eyes and your own judgement rather than listen to what others say.

    • @richardcline1337
      @richardcline1337 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@journeysofaz8863, I still maintain the ships being used as anything but playgrounds for rich tourists to dive on is the PRIMARY reason they are sunk. Prohibit ding on them and they'll quickly stop sinking them. As for the reefs you are correct on the daylight needs.

      Are you serious? Rich tourist's? I'm not rich and I have been going to Key Largo to dive for over 20 years. My friends and I have pumped 10's of thousands of dollars into the Key Largo economy. We rent cars,we go out on dive charters, we go to restaurants ect. The ships that have been sunk are home to a massive amount of coral and other marine life. You sound like a bitter angry dude.
