This broke my heart. You tried and did what you could. You clearly tried so hard. And it's not your fault. I'm so very sorry that you're hurting. I hope she finds a good home.

I'm so sorry, Ariel. It is totally understandable that you're upset about having to give her away. My personal opinion after listening to everything you tried (which was everything you possible could) is that her breed, breeding, being abandoned, being left in a shelter all conspired to cause the problems that Grizzle had. None of which is your fault and with all those things it was probably impossible for you to fix it. Hopefully, she'll be happy in her new home. I know you don't feel like you have the energy to try again BUT I'm sure in the future (maybe after you move to your own property) you might feel strong enough to try again with maybe a younger dog or even a puppy. Until then please know that you did EVERYTHING possible for Grizzle. You're a loving person and you tried, and tried and tried again. **hugs**

I know this was four years ago, but I just watched the video and that situation was heartbreaking. You’re obviously a fellow animal lover and invested everything you could to make the situation work. Losing our friends is hard, but giving her to a person she knew and trusted was a very loving gesture. Dogs have been my best friends since I got my first puppy at three years old. I’m sixty one now, and lots of dogs and other animals have left their paw prints in my heart. I’m glad you have Burley in your life and your sweet kitties. I love watching you interact so kind and gently with them.
Love your channel and have learned so much from watching. ❤️

Ariel, this was heart wrenching to watch. Please don't blame yourself...you went above and beyond to reach her. "Just a dog"...a dog is a living thing with emotions, personality and a right to life just like humans or any other living thing. Please don't let this stop you from adopting another dog, but this time I'd suggest getting a puppy. If you adopt an older dog, you don't know what went on in their lives that might surface as problems later...I'm sure your experience with Grizzly has taught you that. You gave her the best kind of love, care and home that a dog could have, but sadly her problems were too deep rooted.
Please don't apologize...you can't be too emotional about this. Our pets (to many of us) are like our children.
I'm so saddened by your loss. Best wishes for you.

She needed a lot of help from a lot of different people. You were one of the ones that helped her to heal. She has more challenges to face before her time is up. You were the turning point that allowed the remainder of her healing to happen, through the folks you got her in touch with. She needed those people, and you were the medium that got her there. And at the same time, she taught you, too. A part of you that had been tucked away for awhile re-surfaced. And only she could have done that for you. Love to you. It's not silly to cry over this at all. Our dogs are our family members.

What a brave video. Thank you for sharing. Thank you for letting us know how you feel, too. My son and I just had to ease the pain of our eighteen-year-old rescue dog with cancer; and so he went through the pain of loss that you are feeling. He couldn't be with her at the end due to being in another city and that hurt too. Thank you for telling us. I know nothing will ease the pain maybe not even time, so telling us was very brave of you. Thank you.

    Hi Ariel,
I watched your video last night with great sadness. I, like many others here, have been following you for quite a while, always looking forward to your wonderfully informative and insightful chats. You have such a zest for life and a real pioneering spirit. The love for and from a pet companion is incomparable and when you lose that love it is almost physically painful and lasts for a very long time. I hope you have a supportive group of friends to help you through this. Sending a huge hug your way.

You are beyond courageous to have shared this story and the agony that you have endured. Please keep focusing on the good-the joy that you received from this dog and the love that you were able to share with her. Because of that love, she now is in a safe place where she will continue to receive the special care that she needs. I join other commenters in the thought that trying again with a different dog and breed may be helpful and healing.

I'm so sorry to hear this... it's a shame Grizzly had these issues. I wish I knew what to say to help out, but all I know is time heals all wounds... in time you will be able to once again open your heart to a new puppy or dog. Hopefully one that hasn't been abused like Grizzly must have once been. It's a shame that shelters don't always get the full or even vaguely true story on animals that get turned in.

Cathy, you did really good. You got her out of the shelter and you did not put her back. So basically you are the stepping stone that enabled her to have a life. She needed you to do that and you did. Now she has a chance. And maybe she will even stay with the trainer. I am a dog wisperer myself so i can confirm that we do not give dogs away to other people if they or the dog are not ready for eachother. We keep the “craziest“ or most difficult dogs ourselves. Those are the ones we love most. They are the ones who cannot be with anyone else so we keep them 😊. If the trainer gives het away, then that will be because he has found a perfect match. So in any case, you saved her!!!!!!
Love to you and thanks for saving that poor dog.

Oh, Ariel! I am so very sorry for your loss. For many of us, our fur babies become our family and just like our own children. You did everything you possibly could. I too wish we could reach through and give you the hugs and love you so deserve. Sure, others may have greater issues, but these are yours and they are no less painful and heart rending. Now may not be the time to think about a new dog. We cant know all his hurts and what traumas befell him before coming to you, and what damage done. I hope you allow yourself to grieve and then to heal. There are so many out here that feel your pain and send their love. Feel it, Ariel.

I've subscribed to your channel for about a year now. You're a good kind person and you gave Grizzly a very good life for as long as you could. Some dogs are hard to handle and aggressive you did the right thing getting her to another home. In a few months go online and find out what dog breeds are gentle and easy to train. Get one of those. Animals are such good company. I have had good luck with border collie mixed dogs my family has had golden retrievers that were great. I'm so sorry. It's horrible to lose a fur baby regardless of the situation.

I do feel your pain Ariel, I have gone thru a similar loss my self. Not the same situation, but none the less the feelings are the same. The bond between us and animals can be so strong. It has always amazed me how something like this can exist. Yet it does :) I wish there was more I could do for you and Bear. From what you expressed. he seems to be where he should be at this time. The trainer may work a miracle with him. I'm glad he did not become aggressive toward you. I know your situation will get better over time and I know you do too. I never saw this video before since I’m relatively new to your channel. You should never apologize for being a loving person for a sweet old dog. Of course it was painful and sad for you! I’m a dog lover and have 2 of my own. Responsible dog owners do everything they can to help their furry kids, but sometimes it’s not possible to resolve the problem. My Martin passed away from heart failure after months of medications and treatments. We gave him as best a quality of life as we could until his breathing became extremely bad and all the meds couldn’t make it better. I admire everything you did for precious Grizzly, and made the ultimate sacrifice, putting her into a more appropriate setting to live out her last years. That’s true love. I’m happy you have your new adorable puppy now. It does take a while of grieving before one is ready to take on a new puppy. God bless you for your kindness.

It sounds like you did everything you could. It was clearly an untenable situation. I know you are grieving and my heart breaks for you. Grizzly is a wonderful dog who has some serious problems. Grizzly was a family member and when we can't live with family members it's tremendously painful. All of us who follow you are saddened I'm sure. We are here for you as best we can. I don’t know when you put this up, Ariel, but I share your grief. I’m a dog lover and know how awful it is to lose one of these special little souls. I’m sure Grizzly had difficult early years to have these problems. You really went more than the extra mile to try to help her, but you also gave her all the love and affection that she should’ve had from the beginning. I’m glad she has a person in the trainer to find her loving, caring people for her in her final years.

Bless your heart...I'm so sorry you've had such a tough time. Your heart is always in the right place and you try so hard! It's not surprising that you are grieving. As a doggie-mama and one who has raised both rescues and pedigreed dogs, I can tell you that you have done everything you possibly could to help her. Don't let this experience sour you on all shelter animals, though. There are other dogs who would do really well in your environment and would be wonderful companions for you. Give yourself time to grieve and then give yourself permission to love another dog who needs a wonderful, loving home like yours...It will be worth the effort.

I said I'd never get another dog because the pain is just too deep. My heart was broken but time has healed it enough to look for another dog. Please know that your heart will heal too and in time you will find another friend. I pray you can find peace in knowing you did everything you could for Grizzly. God bless you and Grizzly.

Ariel, I've been watching your videos for the past 6 months or so. I'm building my own tiny home and just have been so encouraged by your videos. I also have a dog and I can only imagine the pain you're feeling right now. It's obvious though that you did everything you could and as a fellow dog owner, I know these things happen. Dogs sometimes act in inexplicable ways, and this decision you've made was probably the best decision for Grizzly's wellbeing. It's still a very sad situation, so your tears are justified. I'm not going to offer advice bc I've never been experienced that before, I can only believe that it's going to get better for you and Grizzly one day. Take care of yourself. You deserve it.

You don't have to do anything you aren't ready for when it comes to adopting a new dog. I like getting new dogs immediately but that is not for everyone. Most people wouldn't try as hard as you did for a dog. Thank you for picking an old girl to begin with and loving her enough to send her to a rehabilitating place instead if back to a shelter. You did such a wonderful thing taking her in. I hope, after time, and when you feel a little less heartbroken, this experience won't deter you from rescuing someone else. Love and prayer sent your way and hers. ❤

I’m so sorry this happened to you and Grizzly. Unfortunately, the longer a dog lingers in a shelter is usually indicative of some kind of behavioral issue. I believe you did everything humanly possible to resolve her issues and keep her with you. I’m so sorry it didn’t work out for you. At the beginning of your story, I was sure the ending was going to be that you had to put her to to sleep and was very pleasantly surprised when that wasn’t the case. I do hope that, some day, you let another dog into your life. I wish you, and Grizzly, the best!

You adopted Grizzly with the best of intentions and when you love, you LOVE. Your devotion and dedication are obvious, and you've made the best decision in an impossible situation. I'm so sorry this happened. Grizzly will get the professional help she needs, and thankfully you were the one who was confronted with the situation. I sincerely hope Grizzly can find peace, trust, and love. I cannot blame her after being essentially in solitary confinement for two years, but I can't condone her behavior, either. I suspect she bit the other dog and your brother because she wanted your full, undivided attention and affection. That she was able to bond with you is somewhat of a miracle after what she went through.

Oh Ariel, I'm so sad with you and so know what you have gone through. I got a shelter doggy, a beautiful, young foxhound. Without going into all the details, I will say we went through much of the same thing. I spent a thousand or two trying to help our "Beverly", doing all the things you did. She finally became so aggressive in our home, protecting her food and areas in the home. She began hallucinating as well. She would follow objects(?) and look around at nothing in the house. She bit me as well. I became afraid for my daughter's safety. I finally had to have her put down. I cried all the way to the vet and for months afterwards. What a blessing that Grizzly can go on with others, you did your absolute best, far beyond what the average person would even consider doing.
Since then we took in a little pug who was precious for 12 years and then we got a stray pit bull (can you believe that!) and she is a doll and has been for 4 years. Don't give up, you will heal and there is another doggy that is sweet and needs you!

I had a dog with anxiety issues and found like you did that they suck the life right out of you and occupy all your time. My dog's issues were a little less severe so I found a balance and we spent well over a decade together. This was a long time ago and reflecting back on it now I treasure the good times with that dog, but I would never go through it all again. Don't worry one bit about the judgment of others because it's only until you live through an ordeal like that can you know the right thing to do. You lived it and you know you made the right decision. Take some time for yourself and try to focus on the good times ahead.

You poor thing, I'm crying as I watch this. You DID try everything and it's obvious from your tears you loved her. Unfortunately, sometimes we just can't UNDUE the mess other people make of living creatures. I rescued a dog too and for the whole time I had him (he was 13 months old when I adopted him) he always flinched away from a hand coming at him to pet him. This is in now way near to what you dealt with, I only say it to show - some damage is more than we can handle it. Take comfort in knowing you didn't give up on her and just dump at some other kennel (I know people who have done this). You were a foster parent to her, a stepping stone for her to use in her recovery. You're a very sweet person Ariel.

My dog, whom I rescued from a shelter, was very aggressive to everyone and aninmals... But she was my shadow.... She was the sweetest to me but no one else. Found out from the vet that she was abused terribly. Breaks my heart thinking what her life was before me. I tried trainers and all the same thing you tried, but she still bit dogs and people. I put her down last year because she got sick with cancer... Still wish I could of saved her... I miss her everyday. I'm so sorry... I know you loved each other.

I'm so sorry to hear that. It's really hard when they love you so much. Yeah I just wish I could have had her since she was a puppy. I highly doubt there would have every been any issues. I've raised puppies, cats, chickens, turkeys, sheep, goats, cows, etc. with never an issue, but never tried to take on a fully adult animal. And I doubt I'll ever try that again personally.

So sorry about this. I also love animals, and it is very painful when you have to separate from one that proves unmanageable. Like you, I have always loved the outdoors, and all animals, and it is very difficult when you bond so closely to one, and that bond is broken. It is too easy to say, "Go out and get another dog." Yes, getting another dog is easy, but getting over the last one is hard. That is why I no longer have pets of my own - because losing them is heartbreaking, and this old heart has had enough. All the best wishes for you, and I hope you can feel better soon.
