I’m from Ghent and is so nice to see people from around come to our little own festival! I hope you enjoyed it and will come to one of our next editions!! My favorite spot is the salsa workshops in de afternoon at Baudeloparc!!
I being a student in Ghent myself, I really think this video is a great representation for my beloved city. Ghent is such a versatile city that has something for everyone. Some working points for the next time you come to Ghent: never say Ghent Fest to the Gentse Feesten again. Your Flemish pronunciation may be so bad, but it is and remains the Gentse Feesten. Further last, I find it very disappointing that I didn't see you in this video after 5 o'clock in the morning at the Vlasmarkt, that would have provided some footage. It is a square where everyone is completely fucked up and dancing crookedly until 8 in the morning. Greetings
Pro tip: if you only come for 1 or 2 days, come in the beginning. 10days of partying, spilling beer and irish coffee leaves a trace. And a smell if it didn't rain. Especially at the Vlasmarkt.
if you ever go back there, a little bit of advice, instead of going down the long road perpendicular to the station you can take the road running to the left of it, essentially taking the left side of the big cornerbuilding , that road will run towards a park, you just go in there and run straight ahead, until you go trough the art campus and end up on the following street, then just follow it leftward, and eventually you'l get to the overpoort from where the center is just one straight trek or, you know, you can use the bus or tram
@@vaishnavineeli7235 well this particulair one only takes place once every year during the summer around the last two weeks of juli. other then that we have a jazz festival wich is much smaller scale but still fun, and a food festival and ofcourse our christmas market.
right now they are having Ghent foodfestival, essentially foodtrucks + stands organised by the restaurants in the city and let me tell you it's top notch, want Japanese food, go to currychiwa, the cheff went to a Tokyo cooking academy to learn his craft , want Nepalese, Indian, Chinese and offcourse the classic supreme hearthy burgundian food that we are known for. there were even American newcomers it seems, never saw a restaurant use so many flags. all the food is supreme quallity but the best part may still be where you get to eat it, either you take a table in the historic main square or you walk two minutes to the cannals, watch the architecture, te people and the cute ducks. if want to flex you can get a luxury several course meal in one of the little greenhouses on the square, (350 euros for 3 or so hours of fine dining) there are also workshops for both children and adults, learn about beerpairings, whisky degustation, growing and cooking with your own herbs, .... but the real kicker is that not even most students know the event even takes place, I only found out after 6+ years studying in the city, it doesn't really get advertised it's marketted to Ghent residents first and foremost and as such it's busy in a delightfull way, not to little not to much, the lines can take 10 or so minutes. If you read this, please let me know, and please if you ever plan on doing a Euro trip, especially one with family please don't miss this Flemish city (and whilst here, make sure to also visit Ypres and Bruges (every day at 8PM sharp the last post is held beneith the Menin Gate in Ypres, this has only been interupted by ww2 since it's inception, it will continue until each and every one of the men who's names are inscribed have had a ceremony, and remember that all those who's names are on there is a soldier who's body could not be identified, either laying in a mass grave, or who's body could not be identified or who's remains have just never been found, left somewhere around the Ypres salient)
Probably because it’s hard to explain what de “Gentse Feesten” actually is, it’s a bit of a mish-mash of everything, thrown together in one fantastic festival in the old town of Ghent.
BIG LOVE for portraying my beautiful city and showing all the different sides of Gentse Feesten ♥️♥️♥️

We absolutely loved the festival and meeting all the friendly locals! Thanks for the tip. We'll keep that in mind for the next time we go.
Talleres de salsa se refieren a la música salsa , ?? Se ve bonito algún día iré. Gracias chicos
Nice, good rendition of "de Genste feesten"! This should have so much more views!!!
Thanks for the support! Hopefully more people find this when the festival comes around next year!

Me watching this but realising I live in Belgium

5:47 You can't believe they party for 10 days ? O brother, they are only getting started. After the party there is the after-party.

It's coming up again. Will you guys be coming?
What are the months that you have fests like this ? I am coming to belgium for my studies ,so i am curious.

Oddly enough, we will be back in Belgium, but it will be for Tomorrowland this time. Happy Gentsefeesten!
Most Belgian people don’t eat waffles that often. Going to a “frituur” is what the locals do if they want something quick to eat
Waffles are traditionally more popular in Wallonië & Brussels!
Nothing secret about it. Why that misleading title?
When the festival is start?
Always around the last weeks of July. This year July 19th-28th
nice video!
Thank you!
It's "Gentse fieste"

2:50 Noononono. No Dutch. Flemish!
A train haha is tram
Ssst keep it secret
It is a f*ing tourist trap. As a resident of this beautiful city, I avoid the center during the festival.
