Man this sucks. I picked up Wayne's book "The Hard Stuff" at flea market south of Detroit. He had kicked the drugs and booze and adopted a child late in life. He said that was his greatest joy. Rest in Peace Brother Wayne.
A driving force of a band that was truly revolutionary - in more ways than just musical - their time. Was 13 and in 8th grade when the album came out. Wasn't allowed in the house for quite some time but even then, everyone I knew at the time new who the MC5 was. Very saddened to hear of his passing. Many thanks to Wayne Kramer for his significant role in the music played to this day and hope he rests well in peace after having a some challenges life while with us. Thanks, Pete, for your always thoughtful tributes to these performers.
I’ll never forget that man; helped make my life complete Rest in peace; dear “brother” WAYNE KRAMER❤❤ Thanks Pete; for this kind tribute; Bobby Liebling (pentagram)
When I discovered MC5 it was like a high energy drug. All three of there albums were great different but always pure hard Rock & Roll. His guitar playing was always growing and exploring. His solo albums were good and he even dipped his toes into Jazz. The album he did with Alice Cooper was fantastic: Detroit Stories. He was doing film and TV scores in his later years. RIP Wayne. Rama Lama Fa Fa Fa!
MC5 had an amazing energy in concert, and Wayne was a big part of that. I discovered them very belatedly, through the first of many mix tapes that a record store manager friend made for me, back in '87, but that tape blew my mind! Side one was the "Kick Out The Jams" album. Side two was "Never Mind The Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols." I played that tape countless times! Wayne, you will be missed! Thanks, Pete!
An outstanding guitarist, and not as well known as he deserved. In interviews later in his life he also came across as a centered and articulate gentleman. I trust he is now at peace.
Please Kill Me sold me on the legend of MC5 but Kick Out the Jams opened my mind. Garage rock, punk, metal, soul and righteous fury, they had it all. RIP Wayne
Sad to hear of waynes passing . Saw him live with Brian James from the dammed , clem burke from blondie , and the stone roses mani , all playing together as mad for the racket in a small club in Dublin. Powerhouse of a performer . Thanks Wayne . R.i.P
Was fortunate to see Wayne live in 2003 opening for Cheap Trick. Got to meet him as well. Wonderful guy! He put out a few amazing solo albums in the late 90's early 00's - The Hard Stuff, Dangerous Madness, Citizen Wayne, & Adult World. All fantastic. Legendary!
Man! The title of this one spun me halfway around. Thanks for keeping us posted on all this stuff. I'd heard several interviews over the years, and he knew his stuff man. RIP....
I Absolutely Loved Wayne's music, from The MC5 right through is whole career. i was lucky enough to speak to him via email in 1999. I asked him if I could send a demo of my band over him to, listen and he said yeah man send it over. I was soo excited at he said yes, so I immediately sat down and put the cd in a box and wrote down his address on the box and my return address on the back. Then about 2 weeks after that I went to jail for about 6 months, when I arrived home the cd that I had sent Wayne was back at my place, and when I looked at it I hadn't written the street that his office was in, on it. Because I was so excited that he was going to listen to it, I rushed doing it. so it got all the way to California from Brisbane, Australia, and got sent straight back, because they didn't know what street to deliver it to. And back then I didn't know Wayne's history, that he had done time. So I didn't resend it because I didn't know what to say, because I was embarrassed about being in Jail. So he never got the cd. I did talk to him a few years later, but about other stuff, not to send him any more of my music. R.I.P. Wayne Kramer : Legend ..
Nice tribute as always Pete. I played their three albums last night before getting into Wayne's solo albums. Those first two are really good and now finishing with Lexington for the fifth solo album I have by him. R.I.P.
I know how you want it child Hot, quick and tight The girls can't stand it When you're doin' it right Let me up on the stand And let me kick out the jam Yes, kick out the jams I have to kick 'em out... RIP
I was so sad to hear that Wayne passed. Such a beast of a guitar player. I had this daydream-fantasy that he should join Deep Purple after I heard Morse left the band. I hope that his record was close enough to done that Ezrin can finish and release it.
Oh god, I'm sorry, I meant to say "left," and just duplicated "passed" from Wayne's passing. I'm glad Steve Morse has been playing some of his own shows post Deep Purple, also a monster player, the last streak of DP albums have been great
R.I.P., Wayne. The MC5 invented revolutionary, anti-establishment Punk and were just a great all around no-frills rock band. This is one of my faves: th-cam.com/video/qijoCjlXNPo/w-d-xo.html (American Ruse)
So much of the "class of 1948" is disappearing before our very eyes---alas, we still have Mark Farner, Ted Nugent. Alice Cooper, Steve Tyler, Todd Rundgren, Ozzy Osbourne, Robert Plant still alive n kickin
Awesome fierce guitar player First we lost Rob tyner then we lost Fred both in early 90s. Can't Remember which one I think it was Fred that was with Patti Smith
Love the MC5. RIP Wayne Kramer. Was lucky to have interviewed someone who saw the MC5 a dozen times back in the day. You could check it out here: th-cam.com/video/7BFzrPWW19s/w-d-xo.html&t=
I read his autobiography 2 years ago. At least he outgrew some of the libtard stuff. He also had some excellent solo cd's that were also very inexpensive.
As far as I could see, the MC5's political posturing, the White Panther thing, the posing with guns, the whole 'dope, guns & f*cking in the streets' thing, was mostly down to their manager John Sinclair. Wayne, in his later years, talked with the wisdom & experience of someone who'd been swallowed by the system & shat out the other side.
Jerry, he always considered himself a "leftist" which is not really liberal these days. And why attack Liberals when Conservative-types have always been pretty horrible. Ultra-religious, ultra-authoritarian, pro-war, pro-censorship, pro-corporate policies that hurt working people and the environment. Nothing worse than political tribalism and hypocrisy, sir.
Man this sucks. I picked up Wayne's book "The Hard Stuff" at flea market south of Detroit. He had kicked the drugs and booze and adopted a child late in life. He said that was his greatest joy. Rest in Peace Brother Wayne.
Bloody hell bad news .Saw 3 members of the Mc5 when they toured here in Australia ,fantastic show and met him afterwards ,nice bloke .

R.I.P. a true legend from a legendary band.
Heaven is getting crowded with the legends of late 😢

BOC brought them some recognition with their awesome cover of “Kick Out The Jams” on the best selling Some Enchanted Evening.

High Time is their best album, it truly doesn't get the attention it deserves.
Hell yeah. It’s a beast of an album. Super high energy!
They really got it together on their last album, plus the production is so much better than the first two.
I quite agree.

Thanks for doing this tribute Pete. Wayne was the driving force in such a groundbreaking band. Maybe the first band to drop an F-bomb on a record?
Had some cool solo albums in the 90s as well. Heavy stuff. My band got to open for him a couple of times.
An outstanding guitarist, and not as well known as he deserved. In interviews later in his life he also came across as a centered and articulate gentleman. I trust he is now at peace.

That must have been an awesome gig.

Rest in Peace Wayne Kramer. The MC5 were so legendary !!
So glad I got to see him supporting Alice Cooper a few years back, with MC50 - they were great 🤘👽🤘
Wayne was a great one and his solo stuff is great as well. Killer attack.
Sad news indeed Pete. I remember the release of Kick Out The Jams. Everybody wanted it. What a debut! RIP Brother Wayne Kramer.
Wayne and I have the same birthday. I'm 15 years younger. In the eighties when I was in college working as a DJ he sent me a copy of his music.
Man! The title of this one spun me halfway around. Thanks for keeping us posted on all this stuff. I'd heard several interviews over the years, and he knew his stuff man. RIP....
Rest in power 🌹
Very sad news. The energy on "Kick Out The Jams" was off the charts with Wayne playing a big part of it. As exciting as he was legendary.
I went to school with Wayne’s sister. Saw them open for Cactus
Not just a band but their influence would extend across the rock genre for decades

😢😢😢D.E.P, un pedazo de guitarrista en toda regla, 🎸🎸🎶🎶🎶
Very sad news.
May he rest in peace.

2:14 - this incident was immortalized directly in the Clash song "jail guitar doors" (1978)...

Steve Morse is still with us....
Rick Beato interviewed Steve Morse just a few weeks ago, he looked very much still alive to me 😁
@@jimmycampbell78 Yeah, pretty sure he meant WHEN and IF he passed....

He stole some equipment when my band opened for him in the 80s...great guy!
Wayne and Ted Nugent took lessons from the same teacher in Detroit. Saw Kramer sit in on a Nugent show back in 1974.
Brother Wayne could wipe the floor with Ted.
What was the name of the teacher?
@@ledzeplover58 Yep and Wayne wasn't a fan of Ted's ugly politics either.
So much of the "class of 1948" is disappearing before our very eyes---alas, we still have Mark Farner, Ted Nugent. Alice Cooper, Steve Tyler, Todd Rundgren, Ozzy Osbourne, Robert Plant still alive n kickin
This one is a shock...another legend gone
Awesome fierce guitar player
First we lost Rob tyner then we lost Fred both in early 90s.
Can't Remember which one I think it was Fred that was with Patti Smith
It was Fred.
Also lost the bassist, Michael Davis. Dennis Thompson, the drummer, is the only surviving member.
@@morebeer7673 I didn't know it's another one of those bands with just one original member still.

Him and Tyner. Who would've thought he'd outlive the whole band although Dennis Thomson may still be living.@@mrbrick5907

He did the moonwalk as part of his act long before Michael
Aww, not Wayne : (

say 'iconic' again.
