I used plumbers goop and gooped the skeg slot directly to the bottom but have it leashed to the rear handle with some really strong trot line. When glued the slot to the bottom I put a heavy weight on it to help bond tight. Never thought to use velcro. Adding a skeg to the catch was the best thing I ever did before I put the trolling motor setup on. Went with a Kevin Dismuke trolling motor setup on the catch 120 and its amazing! Battery is heavy but works all day. Went with a group 24 deep cycle marine battery would like to eventually go lithium. The Catch kayaks are great kayaks very stable and lots of room.
Nice. I was thinking of using velcro also, but afraid that it would not be strong enough and will be drifted away under water. Seems like it works well for you.
Then velcro adhesive sticks well to the skeg base. It comes off the kayak hull when I used it the first trip; was a hot day so it did not hold well. I used shoe goop to hold the velcro to the hull; has held since.... nice thing is the goop comes off my kayak readily without scraping it. Also, just in case, I have a line attached to the skeg and the kayak in case it comes off... I can retrieve it easily.
COAF, Thanks for sharing; I need to add a skeg to my boat. May of been asked, but did you add the goop to the boat and skeg or just the boat? Thanks again!
Man, thanks for the quick response. I got a catch 100 and tracking is a little rough. So glad this affordable option worked for you and I will have to try it! Blessing, friend!
Plastic kayaks are commonly made of polyethylene. The Original Shoe Goo directions say it's not recommended for polyethylene products. Has using Shoe Goo to mount a Skeg on a plastic kayak ever given you any problems?
great idea with the removing the locking mechanism and using a rope in case the skeg gets knocked out!!! Love it.!!
Thanks! Decided to do this after the Skeg popped off when I was beaching the kayak. Luckily, the Skeg came off and I found it quickly.

Cool! The velcro works with the Shoe Goop. Plus, can remove it if I decide to sell it. But, really liking the stabilty of the Pelican Catch 100!
I’m working on my kayak right now thanks a lot bro👍🏾
Cool!

Goop to the velcro that I attached to the boat. Velcro on the skeg held fast.
How did the shoe goo hold on the plastic? Did it break it down?
Also did this majorly help tracking?
It's still holding after three years. Has not broken down. The kayak tracks straight, not having to paddle to keep its track.

Been mounted on the kayak for over a year, no issues as of yet.
How’s it holding up so far? Still debating to use a skegg or install a rudder on my lifetime teton
So far so good... should be out on the lake again soon!
Where can I get an add on skeg
Here are links for the gear I used...
Kayak Skeg: amzn.to/2ZSqcSa
Velcro Alpha Lock: amzn.to/322VOXQ
Shoe Goop: amzn.to/3kMHl8G

That's not the problem. There is no glue that bonds to HDPE types of plastic. So what ever glue you used to bond them velcro to the kayak will fail.
Shoe Goo has held Skeg Base for almost 3 years now.
Intuitively I'd want the skeg to slide back so that it was less likely to fall off...
I let it slide and attach a lanyard. When I beach the kayak, it slides off and I retrieve the skeg with the lanyard.
