  • This is the comparison of two films of the same name. Please keep in mind, not all that is displayed in this video is fact. For example, Antoinette is famous for her "let them eat cake" line. Historians agree that she never said that.

    The irony of Marie Antoinette’s life is that we all want to romanticize it as her being full of power, and having everything and anything you could ever want, that by having all the glitz and glamour that nothing else could be wrong. But the truth of it all is that her life was no different and not susceptible to its horrors. She lived her life in fabulous silks of clothing that didn’t change how unhappy she was becoming trapped at 14 to eventually become a queen of a country that no one wanted, only to be plagued by difficulties and loss.

    Marie Antoinette never said Let Them Eat Cake. Truth was, she along with her husband Louis XVI were both much too detached as to what was going on and the ever growing threat that was surrounding them to ever be that snide.

    She was much like her ancestress, Mary Stuart, Queen of Scots, who also spent years in France. But while Marie Antoinette was unhappy in France, Mary Stuart was happy there. But the similarities are apparent when both ascend to their full-fledged power; i.e. when Marie Antoinette becomes Queen Consort, and then when Mary Stuart returns home from France to Scotland to assume her throne there. Their naivety, their ages (Mary was 18 when she went home to Scotland), and their emotions were vulnerable and dangerous for the times. To be in a royal position so high, one had to exercise complete control over their emotions and embrace cold, hard logic in order to reign successfully. Marie and Mary were too emotional and sensitive for this type of world and both lost their heads because of it and the decisions they made, many of the circumstances they went through were out of their control -- while some were.

      well, Mary Stuart was trained to rule and excepted to rule while Marie Antoinette wasn't. Also, Marie Antoinette was bullied and faced xenophobia till her last breath.

    This was not what I was looking for but I'm glad I clicked on it, I rarely watch a tribute that it would interest me enough to see it from beginning to end.

    Eagerly anticipated the 2006 film but it turned out to be a cornball production and the music destroyed the period. I wanted to throw tomatos at the screen. The 1938 film was top notch and the acting amazing. I get it that some don't like the acting style of that period but I find it full enjoyment.

    i will take the 1938 version over this made for t.v like movie with dunst.at least the stars over the golden age of hollywood was around then.the stars today cant hold a candlestick over the great movie stars of the 1930s.

      Honestly, acting in the 1930s was so over the top. It distracts from the actual film for me.

    • @lindasturm699
      @lindasturm699 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      elchoya100 I agree. I like the 2006 movie version but I love 1938 version and I have watched it too many times to count. The acting was more dramatic back then but it doesn't take away from the beautiful love scenes between smoking hot Tyrone Power and Norma Shearer.
