Best of luck with the living situation, personally I was getting fed up with the ridiculous requirements for even a shack with no parking unless you're forking over 300 extra a month
My apartment search strategy was to use the Zillow application. You only have to fill in the information once and pay for one fee to apply to as many apartments that accept zillow applications within 30 days. I just applied to every single apartment that became available for two weeks straight then chose the best one that approved me.
I remember your passionate rant about finding a place and learning to drive during the 150s of SoC so it’s nice to see how far you’ve come. 1,600 being the cheapest in your area is crazy but props for continuing the hunt!
Omg, I understand what you are going through. We live in a one bedroom, one bath in the Portland Metro area and we were lucky to get it before the pandemic for just under 1000. And they just raised our rent this year to 1100. But for new tenants, they are going for 1500 a month now. (And it isn’t that great of an apartment and it is prone to mold due to bad pipes, told to us by our property manager.)
Good for you I moved out at the end of 2019 had to move back in with the folks because they decided my job was non essential in 2020 then now I'm on my own again so let's hope it sticks
Ouch man... I make 2x as much, and pay a little under half that for about the same quality of house, (as well as all utilities), but I live in a small town area, and my job (a manager) is a little more difficult, but the pay and hours are more consistent. But we have like 3x-4x monthly income requirements to qualify too... so it's not without similar issues. Maybe consider moving to a smaller area of the state? Obviously Washington has some of the highest rent/home costs in the country, so I get how it may be difficult to rent, but it may not be hopeless.
I live in suburban Moscow, Russia, and for a whopping $660 rent a clean modern one bedroom apartment with all utilities and air conditioning, and quiet neighbors. Living in the states is costly. And friends sometimes say that I should bargain for a lower rent payment, but I’m okay Wish you the best in your search for the place!
You didn't ask for it, but I'll try so share some insight as someone who has been regrettably renting for 3 years. If you have no credit history, try to start building one with a small card. I had a 40k/year job and had a $300 credit card that I paid off every month and it helped my credit a lot. A co-signer goes a long way. I know you said your parents won't help you, I get that. I also get not wanting to ask them. It really does help though. The north-west has a kind of ridiculous COL in general. If you're at 1600/month rent, add maybe 300 for food, another 200 for miscellaneous expenses, plus 300-600 for bills, that's practically 2500/month for one jerk. If you can regularly make that without struggling, you'll probably be okay. If not, might be best to hold off, as much as it sucks to hear. The rent market is borderline rape. Zillow is your friend. If you're throwing application fees left & right, you're just bleeding more money for likely rejection. Roommates fucking suck but if you're in a tight spot, it's a strategy. Depending on your savings, buying a small house may be your best bet. Consider it an investment strategy. Hope it goes well for you.
2018 i found an apt in michigan for 1k a month with utilities. We fixed the place up a bit, some renovations and it was taken off. The downside is we are right off a major highway that is loud af and the worst neighbor of all time ever. Good hunting my guy.
Make sure to check your local crime map, just because a place looks safe, doesn't mean it's safe. Also, you may want to look at moving to a different state, as coastal states have inflated rent prices due to high demand and bad policy.
When I was stationed in Hawaii I had a 1 bedroom 1 bathroom for $2100 a month. My new 1 bedroom 1 bath in colorado is $1630 a month. I hate apartment hunting. Like I’m paying so I can cry in my finances
My parents currently have a “Half of each paycheck comes to us” deal with me and I feel like I got off easy when I hear the bs renters are going through nowadays.
@@newyorknole2225 I will have. But atm I’m just starting the deal with them. I’m still looking for full time work as I just got out of school so as it stands I’m still gonna be here a bit. Not that it matters too much as I have a wonderful respectful relationship with my parents, so like 2 more years to save money won’t kill me or them.
You mentioned you need to film in a noiseless environment for hours and it would annoy potential roommates. Instead of splurging on adequate living conditions, what if you took an alternative path and invested in a dismantlable sound proof studio box and that way you are able to flatshare.
Dude rent qualifications are annoying. I tried to get a 2 bedroom a couple years back with a friend and they said we made TOO MUCH money together. Like...what?!
It's probably better for you to wait a while longer as the housing market is projected to drop in 2023. A good option is to grow your savings a while longer and put a down payment on a 2 bedroom apt as close to 20% as possible and your mortgage would probably be less than the typical rent. That's what I did at 21 making $22 an hour in south Florida
Yes, miines 1350 down here in Charlotte. I don't make 4500 a month, but i can comfortably do rent. Still had to have my bro cosign just for his income. Pretty stupid imo, if I made that I definitely would have moved by now
Dude I sympathize on the apartment hunting, it can be an absolute nightmare, I wish you the best of luck. Btw some places will forego the 3x rent policy if you can give a big enough deposit payment which you get back after you move out. Also, your rent options are criminal, I live in a very big city and I can find a 2bd/2bth apt for 1300 and still be decent, wish you had better options.
With no credit, history, or stable income? He wouldn't be able to pay the month interest let alone actual payments assuming some bank would magically approve.
Simple fix to your price problem. you're in Washington right? move eastward towards the big sky states or down to the mid west... or just move farther from the city.
1600 per month gets you a mortgage in most states dude. Dont buy in California. Buy in a state that actually gives you some decent living space. You are a youtuber. You can literally buy anywhere with an internet connection. Go buy a house in Manhattan Kansas.
California and New York have some of the highest renting fees ever its insane . My wife and I are looking for houses and the mortgage rates where we live are cheaper than some apartments
Yeah the housing market has been trash for the past few years now, on top of that, rent increases in some places where you live, be sure to take a good look at the agreements before you sign up, good luck out there.
Buy an apartment dude. Why pay someone else's mortgage when you can pay your own? You've been saving for years. Id hope you've saved enough for a down payment over 8 years.
@@SunburnedAlbino Eh, gets a girlfriend he really likes and then wants to move out of his parents' house. Kind of a 2 + 2 situation. And correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't you once vouch for the financial wisdom in living with your parents? You kinda do it here too... kinda.
