2009 National Sportsmanship Awards: DeKalb High School Boys Basketball Team - DeKalb, IL

Hosted annually in St. Louis and produced by the St. Louis Sports Commission, the National Sportsmanship Awards honored the best sportsmanship stories, moments and people of the past year. The event showcased extraordinary examples of class and character by athletes, coaches and sports personalities from across the country. Representing all levels of sports -- pro, college, high school and youth -- award recipients were recognized for their integrity, selflessness, kindness, and perseverance.

The coach, Dave Rohlman is my dad! I was only 7 years old when this happened but I still remember this moment so clearly. It made me so proud to be his daughter :)

DeKalb is my old high school's rival. You know, I was a Spartan so I always hated DeKalb, but when I read about this in the Daily Chronicle (DeKalb county newspaper), my thought about DeKalb drastically changed. I gained a large amount of respect for DeKalb and they deserved this. They really did.

This would have been such a better story if they'd actually showed the video of the drama as it happened. Very disappointed.
