I bet you would see much more time separation on a different type of DH trail. One with super steep chutes with bigger drops into chunky slick and rooty rutted out corners where the head angle and additional suspension travel of the SJ Evo would come into play more.

For sure! I wouldnt dare taking the epic to super steep and loose trails

We don't have "downhill trails" here in SE Michigan. All the extra travel and weight (of the SJ Evo) would just slow you down versus the Epic Evo.

Would be great to get your final thoughts after the rides. I'm not doing CC racing anymore but the Epic Evo still calls out to me, not sure if I should go for the Stumpy for greater versatility though.

Did you ever make a decision? Currently looking at this SW SJ Specials and weighting my options agains the Epic EVO. Any recommendations welcomed 😂

@@aldomolinamoore I wish bro xD I'm still stuck in limbo so i've just been getting my endurance right on the road. Though I'm leaning hard towards stumpy for the increased versatility

Epic Evo didn't do bad at all. 3 1/2 minutes is big difference - especially in a race... I have both as well. I started with the Epic Evo at first, and the following year I got the SJ Evo bcuz the Epic wasn't ideal for downhill riding. Both are great bikes, but the Epic Evo does move faster on the climbs - which is exactly what a XC mountain bike is suppose to do. Although the SJ Evo is classified as a "trail bike", to me it's more like a cross between a trail and enduro bike. The SJ Evo is heavier, the suspension is stronger, and it feels great on the downhill - like shredding downwards, but in a Cadillac. I love both bikes, and I wouldn't get rid of either one as I do both XC and trail/enduro riding....

You should post your comments about the ride between the two. It seems like once you hit the top elevation there wasn’t much climbing. Maybe I’m wrong. Both bikes help up well. You could see the STUMPY EVO tracked really well in some of the gnarly stuff. Do you think the weight of the bikes made the difference between the times?

The epic is about 5 lbs lighter and made up most of the time on the climb.
This downhill trail isnt super steep/loose so it was able to keep up with the StEvo but it felt really rough through the rocky sections and my arms was a lot more fatigue

@@VanCoMTB So it depends on the trails you ride, doesn't it?

@@kentao4 Agreed, i would keep the stumpjumper too. Im doing a few xc races this year so ill be keeping the epic just for that purpose.

@@VanCoMTB I set the head tube angle to the most upright. It’s not too different in that setting from the reg stumpy. Best of all worlds. Just a bit heavier lol

Where’s the rocks? Are you kidding me! The paved bike trails in western Colorado aren’t that smooth.
